It's weird because the course hardly covers think tanks, lobbyists or corporations and yet we're expected to answer a very detailed 30 marker on them

Which is to say they hardly mention any of the things you covered in this video - so thank you!

Thank you so much for this video, Alan! Do you think lobbyists have any positive impact on democracy at all? I'm trying to write pros and cons of each in my revision notes but it just seems like a huge corrupt mess ahaha

Hi Amy, it is hard to balance up but they do represent charities and interest groups looking to do good as well as corporations. They act as a channel that enable ideas and research to be presented to decision makers. In this way they play a role in pluralism. Without lobbyists you could argue that government would be making decisions based on less information and without all interested groups presenting their views.

For the edexcel spec do we have to know all the different think tanks and pressure groups eg for think tanks as long as we know one eg fabian society is that ok or do we need to know adam smith and a neutral one too
@AlanHistoryNerd
@AlanHistoryNerd 3 жыл бұрын
I'd suggest you need a good range of examples, making sure you have examples for the different types and examples that are associated with the main political parties (good for illustrating how an outsider group can become an insider group and vice versa) and of ones that are more neutral

Howdy Alan, do you know any good examples/cases of when a corporation pressed the government to change policy in order to gain an advantage against foreign competition?
