“This is a clear benchmark to our allies that they need to step up as well.”
The UK's increase in defence spending could encourage other Nato allies to ramp up their budgets to send a "clear message" about arms and capabilities to adverseries, says former minister for defence procurement Sir Jeremy Quin.

I want to point out that the war is basically not asymmetric. There is a great deal of evolution that is directly induced by conflict of this caliber. Essentially, there will be far less of a chance that funds in development will be wasted as the battlefield is indicating what we advance, directly. Very little imagination is required.

The British army is an absolute joke, it's faced funding cuts year after year for as long as I can remember and because of this our army has shrunk to less than 80,000 troops including naval and air force personnel. It's the smallest since the wars against Napoleon so it's hardly surprising that our enemies fancy their chances right now. Britain would have to spend at least 5% GDP for the next ten years to become a serious fighting force again. The truth is that we've relied on America far too much for far too long but times have changed, it looks for all the world that American is going to be involved in a war against China and Iran, possibility North Korea too whilst Britain, France, Germany and other European Nato countries to Fight against Russia and quite frankly I don't fancy our chances. It's crazy the way that the world has changed since the start of this decade, I never thought they could ever be a nuclear war in my lifetime but it's looking more and more likely with each passing day.
