I’m a master’s student in Birmingham. My monthly grocery is around £100-150. This doesn’t include eating out. I don’t know how he managed in £18 per week. You just can’t eat daal chawal every week. I don’t see any other items like flour, vegetables or any frozen parathas/wrap to eat with. Incase if you want to just survive, it is good then but not for long term.

Yeah that's because he had done a very basic shopping just as you said that just to survive then it's fine...and also he said that it matters person to person like if you buy things which isn't much a necessity or just for your taste then that could raise your budget...

Back in 2015 I was in the UK as a student.. Junaid bhai Believe me these prices are same then what it was that time iIl share you the invoice of 2015 of Tesco. Junaid I have watched your videos in he past and must say I am always happy with the content you share. With regards to this particular topic, I completely disagree with Farooq's analysis of the expenses. Being someone who came to the UK as a student and having lived there for more than a decade now I can tell from experience that this is not how the expenses work. Firstly if you making an innovative analysis get your figures correct. He mentions 40£ monthly expense at 4:25 and then claims 10 hours of work, with 10£ minimum wage. Don't know where he studied his math from but if you earn 10£ per hour its only 4 hours of work to make 40£. Having said that its not as simple as just working for 4 hours and covering your expenses. Life in general is hard and you have additional costs associated with all this work e.g travel, rent etc. Secondly the application is good but needs mentioning that the groceries have sub types and when looking at full expenses they normally show in different categories of the app so need to sum up all those. Not to mention all this had to toiletries included which is the second biggest chunk of the groceries. Lastly please note that maybe its his personal choice or belief but would have bene better to cut the meat part off from the video as showing Halal meat then opting for other option just as its a cheaper option doesn't show our kids the right message. Hope my comments don't offend anyone but with all the good content you provide I believe this would help.

You're right about the math around 4:25 but thats a single mistake, the rest of his analysis was decent albeit he should've mentioned the actual expenses which are travel and lodging. As for the halal meat section, you missed it but he said "but I'll take this one" and took the same one, i.e. Shazan's halal meat.

I didn't see flour, oil or any vegetable you would cook. You wouldn't keep eating daal chawal everyday. Meat was also good for a day. This maybe absolute survival budget, but not a normal student budget. I would easily double it for a week. Fuel and electricity prices have doubled, according to BBC many people are using candles to save energy in UK. Families in UK and overall EU are suffering the most. I agree that comparison with Pakistan may not be accurate, but it is not good here either.

So in UK one person's groceries cost around 20-25K Pkr and we are 12 member family and our grocery bill hardly reaches 30K. It means our per capita income is low but we are 12 times cheaper than UK. Now If a UK person earns 12000 Usd and Pakistani person earns 1200 Usd and when you see overall expenses like fuel,house rent, transportation the Pakistani person can save alot from 1200 Usd and UK person will hardly save from 12000 usds. because here we get a 2 room house for 10-20K Pkr rent and in UK you get a single room apartment for 120 to 200K rent. UK people are 34 times ahead in earnings but their living cost is also 34 times costly than ours.

£18/ week is not an accurate figure. My weekly spend was around £40-60. That’s around £240/ month. He is being very conservative with the things. Plus I shopped at Lidl/ Aldi which is a lot cheaper than Tesco. £18/week is not a good lifestyle like he is saying. I ain’t sure how he is doing it or that was just the premise of the video to cut cost. All of this doesn’t include ‘eating out’ which is like £20-30 for one meal. This is not accurate.
