UK to Import Offset JDM Style Number Plate Conversion - MX5/Miata nb

The MX5 / Miata gets new Import size JDM style number plates and I remove the 'Baby Teeth' (transit tie down hooks) from the front grill. I also clean out the wheel wells a little bit and assess the rust situation.

Out of interest what sizes are the plates you used? I am doing the same to my mx5 :)

Hi, the size I got was 330mm x 165mm.

The front looks good offset, suits it well, only thing I’d have done is plug the plate on the other side but personal preference I guess.

Do you have to declare this to the insurance? cause i cant find off-center number plates anywhere on the mod list

I don’t think so, it’s not really a change, plenty cars have offset plates from factory. But having said that… you know insurance companies are twats, so probably best to call them.

+Hidden Ace I can’t give legal advice. But I can say that mine mine isn’t an import and I haven’t been pulled by police yet. (I have driven past plenty of cop cars though). I do keep my original UK plates in the boot though - just in case.

I'm pretty sure that as along as the text is of the correct size and font, the placement and size of the number plate is up to you.

Halfords make the plates, so must be ok.

Because they were ugly, rusty and useless, so they are in the bin.

Not sure why UK have such bad number plate design, front number plate offset looks gd.. bit of a hack job but result is gd. Would have filled in the wholes respray Bumper and bought a bracket from super autobacs myself .

So you spent a lot of effort to replace one plate bracket holder (the left hand tow hook) with another ugly bracket, while the number plate and bracket will hide the tow hook once fitted. I recommend otherwise...
