I was born in Spain, my parents are from Equatorial Guinea. I left Spain when I was 24 to come to live in the UK and I'm married to a Nigerian and I have young children who love Spain. To be honest, I love Spain but there are not even a quarter of the opportunities for us Africans there as there are in the UK. I experienced racism all my life, bear in mind that I was born there so no foreign accent or funny business. I was never considered Spanish. When I finish my studies I NEVER got a job that wasn't in a club or pub. No shops or other business would employ me once they saw my photo in my CV (Yes! You must add a photo). Nowadays, I only go there on holidays to enjoy the weather and the food. I might go back there to retire with my money coming from the UK though.

I recommend to stay away from a country that hurt you so much. Instead of going in a holiday to Spain, you should go to the U.S.A. I highly encourage you to visit the South, you will feel at home.

These comparison videos are always difficult because whatever opinion you express, they will be based on your personal experience and everybody’s experience is different. Outside my birth country, UK is the only other country I have lived in and I’ve never really felt the need to move out of the UK. Home is where your heart is indeed and UK is my home

Aunty Flo, thanks for making this enlightening video. I enjoyed watching it. I’ve lived 11 years in the UK and I’m a practicing medical doctor here. I have studied here, married here and worked here, So I have a bit of knowledge of different aspects of the Uk. I would agree with the points about the weather and that it’s not as “touristy” if you’re not visiting London. I would also agree that Spanish people are more friendly, warmer and more bubbly than the UK. But...a few things to add from my limited experience. The UK is really more than London. London is quite expensive, in terms of cost of living and accommodation - I agree. But this is Just like say Madrid or any other capital city in Europe. There’s lots of other cities beyond London or cities close to London, which are brilliant to live with reasonable cost. I would also argue that the NHS has one of the best Health care systems in the world. I have been to a Spanish hospital whilst on holiday and I didn’t think there was any great difference to the system, however I was a tourist so I suppose that means I can’t fully comment on the usual system. I think the health care resources a GP surgery has access to here is dependent on the population in that area (ie older people, children, more disabled, more chronic health problems etc). I am a hospital doctor, and I still maintain that the health care system is top notch. I think we can’t really generalise the whole UK based on a few cities in the country.
@FloChinyere
@FloChinyere 3 жыл бұрын
Good to hear that the hospitals are top notch from someone who works there. Everything I said in this video is based on my experience not hearsay and I did issue a disclaimer that I did not use the health service that much. This is my experience as a patient and this perspective is very important too because we are the receivers of the service a.k.a the customers. And I did not generalize. It's impossible for me to sample every location in a country before sharing my experience. 😂 Experiences will always be based on where the person lived.

I live in Germany and have visited the Uk . In my opinion you can’t compare Germany to Uk , Germany wins hands down. The quality of life here is second to none, however language barrier is the only problem I see not racism. Uk is constitutionally racist but a lot of people don’t know.

@@ogehnwaogidi2138 they don't know this because of the sheer number of blacks in the UK today. They outnumber the whites so even if whites hate blacks, you can't discriminate against them like that. @MAJESTIC1998
@MAJESTIC1998 3 жыл бұрын
It is true, that it is difficult to see blacks in some sectors, that has an explanation and it is not because of racism as some think, blacks never stayed in Spain as a final destination until 2003/5, Spain was always a gateway to Europe and their final destination was France or England especially,in those times i remember being the only black in my class. In those positions you need a title and Spanish nationality, to work in any government position, and even so, you will have to compete to obtain the position, not only is it enough to have the title.

My tap have a mixer head here in UK. I have live in Spain and now in UK, I will say I prefer Spain due to the neatness and clean environment but apart from that it is uk for me. REASONS 1. Here in UK my kids study in English instead of the local pais vasco language that they teach kids in bilbao. 2. I and my husband have a better pay Job here 3. I am studying as a nurse here in UK which I never had the opportunity in spain But all the same Spain is my first love and my home 4. Manchester UK weather is better than Bilbao Spain weather because it is freezing cold in bilbao that you can't use your keys to open the door. When it rains in Manchester you can walk without getting soak but bilbao 5mins you are totally wet.

I'm sure I would have had the same story to tell if I've had to rely on employment in Spain because they don't recognize our qualifications here. COVID hit tourism the hardest all over the world and for a country that relies so much on tourism, it's bad. Hopefully with the vaccines, we are coming back to normal life. Hey! Nice video Im a British Nigerian/Jamacain girl and I lived in Spain for almost two years. I won't lie a lot of what you said hurt a little because I am British and love my country but I'll be objective. I think Spain is much cheaper obviously, and you do get a lot for very little, in fact 400 pounds for a studio flat in London sounds incredibly cheap, most are like £1000 pounds. Also you are more likely to get much better weather, nicer living, scenery etc. Having said that. I honestly did not experience these really nice warm Spaniards you have mentioned. I also did not experience racism except for people assuming I work at markets and those bazaar shops and asking me for assistance. In England we're pretty insecure and don't like to bother people but if you approach us we will be smiley and friendly. In Spain, people would just bump into me and completely ignore me and not even apologise. Also the service staff at shops and banks are so rude and harsh with you and when you do your shopping they don't wait for you to collect your things they just start scanning the next customers items which can make you feel rushed, but I understand that is not a personal thing. Speaking of Banks, the service is SOOO slow and again they are just not friendly, many people in those jobs seem to think they are like gods or something. I was not used to the slow paced life at all coming from London. It was so inconvenient with all the shops closing in the middle of the day. I worked as an English teacher and so my experience is that the Spanish youth are overworked and they are just taught to memorise information but not truly take it in. Many of my students did not care about my lessons because they had so much on their plate with their studies, but having a level of English is mandatory for most jobs. Also so many of them are struggling to find work in their field and many are on really bad contracts and have no job security. In the UK there are so many entries into work, and ways to help people find work even if you don't have a degree you can work your way up but in Spain if you don't have a degree you have no chance. I also did not like the processes of many things, Spanish websites are so old and slow and god forbid you should need a Spanish criminal record certificate from another country! I needed one and it was near impossible, the Spanish consulate in London don't care and don't bother to help or have up to date information. So make sure you get it whilst you're in the country! The GPs are pretty standard in the UK, but not perfect by any means, and I did not use the doctors in Spain because I was a bit afraid, since my spanish at the time was not so good and I always felt like I was just wasting their time. You may not have felt there was racism but ask many latinos and you may hear a different story of their experience. Many of my students would freely make fun of Latin American people and say their spanish was not real spanish Overall the people I spent more time with were very nice and friendly and I think most people everywhere are if you take the time to get to know them. I agree it was soo safe in Spain! I loved that, but maybe it's because im a Londoner but I have never experienced any crime in London and don't feel the fear that the news makes London out to be some dangerous place. Also in Spain the young people drink twice as much as Brits and they never fight or go crazy, but in the UK the young British just can't control themselves and become like animals! In Spain they did have loads of holidays which was amazing, they had a holiday for everything and I loved el Puente!! I Love tapas culture and my cheap 2 bed apartment. In England life is really too fast paced, so much stress and maybe one day I would like to move to the Mediterranean or something but to be honest no where in the world is perfect so you have to make the best of what you got Besos desde Londres y tus hijos son muy monos xxx

Muchas gracias bluemoon por esto comentario y las parablas tan majas! You captured everything. O yes, nowhere is perfect and in this series, I have a video about what I miss about the UK and another about what I don't like about Spain coming up. I want to answer all these questions about where I live and where I have lived with these series of videos. That's what I meant when I said that the kids here are generally well brought up. They usually find a park and do their botellones in peace and would not bother anyone. I really admire the way most of their kids behave and I do adopt some of their parenting skills. I also noticed that the UK kids' heads cannot resistir altos niveles de alcohol. They drink 2 bottles and they are already off the chains. jajaja If you ask some blacks here, they will tell you that Spaniards are good to them, that it's South Americans that are racist towards them in their places of work. But really I was sharing my own experience and a few of my husband's. I guess the crime as portrayed in the news got to me in the UK because I just arrived, I was temporarily stationed in a small town with dark and lonely streets and my friends that already lived in London for a long time would warn me about going to certain parts in my search for Nigerian food ingredients. They knew I was ready to enter anywhere in my search in those days! 😂 It's just like the news coming out of Nigeria in recent times, Nigerians outside Nigeria are apprehensive but those that are on ground in Nigeria will always say that it's not as bad as portrayed in the news and on social media. ❤🌹

True. In every country, you go in search of what you want to achieve. Due to Spain's autonomy of states, one state can have very strong economy while another, not so much. North of Spain: Pais vasco, Catalunya generally have strong economies more than many other places but some people would rather stay where they are lacking what they need. We live up north too because it's where the opportunities we need right now in our lives are. When we retire we will definitely move south. I would love to live close to the lovely beaches forever but for now, we will delay that gratification for what we want.

Apart from living in Nigeria,South west Nigeria to be specific, UK. is the best place to live for me. Any other thing missing in UK. can be met up in other places. What's so important and fantastic about UK. is the Health system. I have lived and travelled to majority countries especially in Europe and Americas. The Health system in the UK. is first class. Another reason is the Human Right. As minority in the UK. my Human rights are more guided and respected by the system largely compared to most countries. I agrred with you about the Fantastic weather of Spain,but that can be made up visiting Nigeria for that. The purchasing power of the pounds and UK. economy is higher than Spain. In fact, the Spanish economy is sustained by tourist from countries like UK. UK. is also the best place to educate a child. The UK.education system are highly respected world wide. In fact. there are spanish immigrants in the UK. who preferred educating their children here. Statistically, there are more Spanish citizens schooling in the UK. than UK.citizens in Spain. Credit. Credits are easily accessible to UK. residents especially if you have good credit history. The UK.has one of lowest unemployment in Europe. In fact, there are Spanish immigrants both skilled and unskilled working in the UK. Majority farm workers in the UK are from Southern Europe like Spain and Portugal.

There are 165000 Spanish citizens living in the UK. Most of them live there to learn English and to expand their professions scope. Tourism in Spain is only 12 % of their GDP. Registered there are around $400000 UK citizens living in Spain. There are almost a million that drift between the two countries and the Spanish garbage collector services are flooded with trash from British areas in which the population it is twice and three times more that are officially registerd. In 2019 the Spanish Health System was considered the # 1 in the world with Italy second. A Bloomberg International study declared Spain the best country in the world for quality of life in 2019 and in life expectancy Spain is second in the world after Japan. The downfall of Spain is the unemployment (12% nowadays) but that is not even accurate since there is a third of the economy underground (Around 319 billion Euros in 2019) in which people are working without declaring taxes.

Great analysis. As a GP in the Uk 🇬🇧 i have been to different cities in Spain several times on holidays and i must say you can’t ever compare it to the Uk. I love Spain and hope to move there some day. In regards to the hospital setting vs GP i am not entirely sure if i agree with you in terms of primary health care vs secondary care because GP surgeries get funding based on the population they’re serving meaning what happens in London or Manchester may not apply in Cardiff for instance so while some surgeries will look like they don’t have equipment, others will look very equipped. Also remember a GP in the Uk has to see loads of patients per session in 10 mins or less, do millions of admin jobs and go see patients at home or in nursing homes. A GP in the Uk does almost 1 million jobs and you get home feeling like you’ve fought 100 people. I do agree with you though that seeing a specialist takes time and to be honest i think NHS is over stretched and understaffed. Any recommendations on how to learn Spanish would be appreciated as i have struggled with learning on KZbin

i disagree that Nigerians mispronounce a lot of words. Just because one country may say it a certain way than Nigeria does not mean Nigeria's pronunciations are wrong. It simply means both places have their own way of saying it and it just boils down to the accent being different. But ofcos when your abroad since your from an "African" country they will tell you your own way of saying it is wrong.
@FloChinyere
@FloChinyere 3 жыл бұрын
😂😂😂 But sis you can't say yours is correct when you are using their language nowww. It's just like how other tribes mispronounce ugu as ugwu. Our own pronunciation will always be the right one because we own the Igbo language. And please note that I'm not talking about accents here o. I'm talking about pronunciation. Eg Nigerians pronounce Wednesday as it is written: WEDNEZDAY. Some say WENEZDAY. But the correct pronunciation is wenzday. And many others.

@@FloChinyereyes your correct regarding us using British English but I was referring to when you compared it to Spain. Maybe it depends on which part in Nigeria or school someone grew up or schooled in. I find myself pronouncing words the same way as British people do. Also, accent plays a role in how people say things just like in america the way they say my name "amaka" is right in a way but also tends to sound wrong because of their accent. I know in america they literally make foreigners feel their own English is wrong if you don't say it exactly how they do. But I get what where your coming ffrom.
@oluakinwale4859
@oluakinwale4859 3 жыл бұрын
Point of correction; British know and call their country an Highland. Some of the info you are giving out here is not correct. There is a no 9 months of winter. Winter really starts towards the end of November and ends in early March. That's when you have long nights and short day. I agree with you about the the food and lifestyle, security, work balance plus the weather. Spouses killing each other should be a real concern. You should also note that climate change is affecting weather on different parts of the world. You are wrong saying GPS and hospitals in London. You said you really did not use NHS services so you can't compare the two health care. There are GP surgeries and walking in centres in each Boroughs. The UK is above Spain in terms of medical advancement. l agree Spain is better overall than UK. But l will only go there on holiday and have a retiring home there. Another thing is that migrant always want to come and live in the UK and not other European countries. UK is a draw and it puts services under strain.
