Great review as usual Chris. I personally like this ukulele more than the Aklot you recently reviewed for two main reasons. 1. No string slapping sound which results in a nicer and more articulate sound. 2. A Tie Bar Bridge matched with a cheap plywood bridge plate is a much better cost cutting measure than Aklot's choice. I actually generally prefer the tonal qualities produced by through bridges and pin bridges. However Aklot uses cheap plywood bridge plates with through bridges. That is a bad combination as the soft cheap plywood will compress over time putting excessive stress on the soundboards themselves. Anyone who owns an Aklot should thread the strings through small flat plastic beads or buttons before tying the knot so the bead/button can protect the soundboard. This ukulele really was a great deal.😁

Hi Daniel! Thanks for this awesome comment. I need to listen to the ukulele some more for that “slap” sound. I’ll be changing the strings anyway, and that may help-and the bead suggestion is great for any ukulele. I’d love to see a video on your site about cost-saving measures of Aklot. You’re my go-to source for issues of construction and quality control of ukuleles. Side note: I hope you’re at the LA Uke Festival in September. I have an education based session in the early afternoon but it would be fantastic to visit in person.

Amazon still has some of these for $59.99, but the have the dark stained one ( that is the same as this one but darker) for $39.99 right now, but they only have 2 left. You will not find them if you type Tom ukulele, because for some reason they are not listed under their brand name for some reason. I had bought the darker colored for my niece, and it's very nice, and I have the red pine one, and it's very nice as well.
