Welcome back to Casually Competitive MTG! We are a group of friends who enjoy playing fast paced semi competitive EDH games. Everyone is so focused on killing everyone else with one fell swoop of a combo that they just let Jordan live with 2 health and 1 little blocker. He then proceeds to interrupt two different plays and cast an overloaded Cyclonic Rift......You don't always have to combo kill everyone.

This game really showcased just how powerful Oakhame adversary can be when it's not dealt with. That 2 mana creature dealt 14 damage and drew 7 cards. Not an understatement to say that these extra cards are what kept Bill in the game after his stuff got countered over and over again.

That was a fun game guys, keep it up!. Also i want to highlight something that i strongly dislike... i know that people in this channel and even some of you are really tired of thassa's oracle wins and thats why your flash hulk pile in Ukkima looked like that... its a valid approach however in my opinion there is a BIG difference between playing "a suboptimal line at high level" and "intentionally build a terrible combo from an staple wincon". Instead of that intentionally bad flash-hulk pile i think you guys should run Alluren + Cavern Harpy... that is also a combo line with Ukkima, its a good and compact wincon, its not super optimized but does not involves the nasty fish and feels much more like the optimization level you guys usually use in your videos. And again thanks for keep posting content even in this worldwide quarantine time

i fully agree, no point in playing hulk package if running such a terrible version, just go all in on the chain and add more counterspells or removal in place.

Bill missed an attack with corpse knight before he sacrificed it to diabolic intent. Also, Jordan cast flash right into a player who had just regrowth’d a counterspell for some reason?

I believe it has a bait, he already had add nausium and need to make sure it would resolve, so he decide to draw out the hate with flash to open the path. It did not go well tho since his add nauseum has not great has pretty bad

Agreed, the Zaxara player piloted this deck very poorly. I have a Zaxara deck that can go super wide on big hydra tokens to beat face and wins alot, I dont think I saw a single hydra token this entire game from Zaxara...poor showing.

There is a lot of that but this is absolutely not even close to what I would consider a CEDH game. Go to Play to Win for some real CEDh

I wouldnt consider any of these commanders as cedh viable.. look at games with gitrog, zur, anje, tymna/thrasios, najeela...

I have been looking at him as a knock off Opus Thief type commander (high value wheels, good payoffs, etc). It won't make it into the testing videos but expect to see it down the road for sure!

Am I the only one who thinks that food chain is a boring mechanic both to play and to play against? I hope in one of his ban to create new interesting decks.

Before watching: KALAMAX HYYPE i preordered the precon right as he was spoiled, as i knew, out of all themes and commanders i would get him anyways and before the precon gets a money card (which cycling got), i grabbed it. edit: (possible spoilers) Ukkima partners are definetely the best commanders, ukkima + foodchain is nasty. I wonder how kalamax does in a more fork/copy oriented version, as copy spells can substitute kalamax badly as well as combo with him and generate value of other peoples tutors, though i assume it may be a bit lower in powerlevel than the very compact kiki package.

Yeah that confuses me about his breakdown of the commanders at the end. Sounded like he was just saying "good because sultai" without explaining what ukima can actually do it why you'd run it over another sultai commander.

@@fidly4 the reason ukkima is nice over other sultai commanders is the leaves the battlefield trigger. It lets you run food chain combo easier, rather than having to run food chain with a graveyard combo like sidisi

The optimal way to build Zaxara is every tutor you can/transmute for 3cmc cards, go after Pemmin's Aura or Freed from the Real then play Torment of Hailfire/Exsanguinate/Capsize/Walking Ballista etc to auto win. I only run 2 X spells in my deck.

Kalamax to me is interesting because it makes attacking a somewhat viable plan B (or C). I mean, it's the most easy way to tap it!

With kalamax tapped, is this considered competitive? chandra's ignition + any intant fork spell (reverberate, expansion, increasing vengeance) Basically hit each opponent with infinite damage

So many counters, the kind of gameplay's just not for me, the odd combo is fine but everyone just trying to win with one and everything getting countered seems like the opposite of fun. More power to you if this is what you're into though, I'm by no means saying people shouldn't play this way just because I don't like it, but good god do I not like it.

that hulk package jordan is running is terrible bad. no reason to waste slots with those bad cards. just my opinion as a food chain commander. i like bills abzan food chain list, but it really suffers only having access to 1 CFE creature.

The worst part about cEDH is everyone is playing the same cards and the commander choice barely matters at all which means any commander without blue in its identity is unplayable, except Gitrog.

So I run a cedh zaxara and cazur and ukima, the cazur and ukima ayer did ok but zaxara played that way wrong cause he waited for the artifact ramp, and regardless of the reason he shouldn't have waited, zaxara is meant to be proactive until you get zaxara out, after that you are allowed to stall and play control until you get a game winning x spell and infinite Mana or if you have them you do it until you feel safe going for it

I think kalamax is better with the ral, storm conduit all you need is a copy spell and it infinite damage

Good game. I have an opinion on what you are saying. Your channel says "Casually Competitve" yet you always talk about consistency, stronger combo lines and color pairings. You should focus on being "Casually Competitive" and not being competitive.

I think Ukkima might be the best sultai commander there is obviously... and it can run the fish consultation and fish tainted pact with fish being the only dead card in that combo (because obviously the forbidden tutors have a ton of upside in a food chain deck in that they have the possibility of grabbing food chain and exiling the creature that can be cast from exile)...

It might compete with tymna/thrasios now that flash is banned. basically it determination if it is better to have draw engines in the command zone or a food chain combo piece in the command zone now that arguably the best combo to win the game is compact enough to fit in any deck that has blue and black it will be interesting to see how the meta evolves.

Ukkima is my fav so far, I'm excited to see what this game has to offer. Although I plan on a more casual 'bomb politics deck'. Pump Ukkima to 10 power infect (aka 'bomb has been planted'), then make everyone obey to your every wishes. Otherwise instant sac/bounce/flicker. Can't wait!
