This is a good song for a variety of reasons, enjoyable to listen to, but what I like most is how it shows the perspective of the rest of the animals who live in the Pride Lands. You see them in the movies as background characters, but it's especially memorable to hear about all the pain they went through while they lived under Scar. I like the line "Someone once lied to us, not we're not so blind". Really gives a good in-depth look into the rest of the animals and how they feel.

Which makes it all the more powerful that his role as Scars heir, something that was once his greatest point of pride, has ruined the best thing hes ever had in a way that, at the time, feels total and absolute. This whole scene was like everyone saying "you did this, you're on HIS side, that's all that's needed to be certain you are bad in every way we cannot afford to trust, and that means you not only aren't part of this pride, this community you never were to begin with. How can you be if every part of you is dripping with HIM?" And he cant argue, even knowing that the ambush was a frame up, bc as far as hes been told his whole life the rest is as true as can be. This sort of storyline can be done really cheaply if you dont bother actually showing the character in question realising by themselves just how wrong everything they thought they knew was, but seeing him hunching under the accusing, almost resigned stares of this kingdom that had become so much more jaded because of the man he grew up looking up to, so quiet as the truth and what it meant for him sank in? It still gets to me, every time God I love this film

Very similar emotions in that scene but the actual events taking place are completely the opposite. The same ideas expressed but Zuko has moved past his trauma with being exiled to the point that he is, in effect, doing that same thing to himself. The emotional parallels between the scenes show the differences in character development for those two facially scarred characters.

As a kid, I thought that this song/scene in the movie was no big deal; they just drove Kovu out of their area.. As a young adult it hits so hard now. Kovu is a character that represents every person who's ever been rejected by groups from both sides of their life. He was raised by a bitter, revengeful mother and family, but he's not bad. Nevertheless, owing to where he comes from, he's labelled as greedy and wicked by others who don't understand that it's wrong to generalise. He was accused and blamed for something he didn't do and didn't know about either. He wants to be accepted as 'good' but doesn't get the chance. The way he's driven out and excluded is really sad, with an entire musical number dedicated to vilifying him and pushing forward the point that he's an outcast. Only this time, he's an outcast from both sides. I'm sure many people in real life would be able to identify somewhat with this.
@larsuppling9812 жыл бұрын
Yes to all of this. And at the same time it doesnt paint the Pride Land people as evil or wicked, they got burned once when Scar took the throne, and seeing one of his pride come back ruffled some feathers but it wasnt until the Outcasts ambushed Simba while he was alone with Kovu and made sure to go "Well done Kovu, just as planned" right in Simbas face before trying to kill him, so either Simba died and all was well for a hostile takeover of the Pride Lands or he managed to survive and Kovu got burned over there. Just out of pure vindictive spite when Kovu wouldnt be the Assassin they wanted him to be. So in that light it was understandable that the Pride Lands people acted on that proof, horrible as it was.
@lucax230010 ай бұрын
"Let him run, let him live, but do not forget what we cannot forgive" is just very emotional. Simba's entire pride including every animal beside the lions were deeply affected by the revelation of how Scar murdered Mufasa, a king they all loved, and also the attempt on Simba's life. And they're so triggered just by Kovu looking the part that they aren't willing to listen to anyone's judgement but Simba's, because they also love Simba. It just speaks more incredible volumes to the way the antelope singer keeps reciting, "Deception." It just makes me feel for the entire pride and we don't even hear about them all.

@@RedPandaGirl002 Do you really need to be that person? You Clearly, don't understand the comment. For one I wasn't talking about Kovu (that should have been obvious) and two wasn't suppose to be taken seriously. But I guess I need to be more specific for now on.
@CynderSpirit3 жыл бұрын
@@RedPandaGirl002 They could be sometimes just like everyone has certain thoughts that they carry from time to time. It was meant to be relatable for anyone might have been currently betrayed depending on the person or situation (cheaters, abusers, evil people, people who betray their country, whatever the case). Your saying you wouldn't be satisfied if this situation didn't happen to another character (let's say if Scar was still alive). Another example, it's like when you watch Batman interrogate someone on TV, video games, or comic books, (like in Arkham Knight when Batman snaps the thugs arm for gassing the cop in the beginning of the game) the next you hear someone say "if only Baman could interrogate (the worst person you could think of)." Again not meant to be taken seriously but something for someone to feel satisfied for a moment incase they were feeling that way.

@totalhufflepuff2032 жыл бұрын
@@RedPandaGirl002 there’s no reason for you to defend Kovu though. Everyone here agrees with you. There’s this thing called dramatic irony in films, where the audience knows something about the characters or plot, that the characters do not. WE as an audience know that Kovu was not to blame for Zira’s attack, but Simba doesn’t know that. The point of that scene was that Zira’s set Kovu up so that the characters THINK that Kovu was behind it. So it makes sense given what he thinks he knows for Simba to exile him. But what you aren’t realising is that nobody here thinks Simba is correct. There is a difference between understanding the reason behind someone’s actions, and supporting said actions. We do not support Simbas decisions, but we can understand WHY he’s doing what he’s doing. It’s ok to understand a character’s motivations without supporting them, because that’s what makes characters complex and morally grey.
