I had a GT.... it was my first car. 2nd hand. The gearbox to this day, is still the best I've ever driven. The twin choke Weber, a beautiful thrust when needed; and that's BEFORE fuel injection.

As an American it is very impressive they can get this amount of power from such few CC. But, as an American it's hard to get my mind around a 170hp engine in such a light chassis because we rarely experience that.

I remember when the Mk 2 came out and it was advertised as having bowl in pistons ( which means cheaper cylinder heads ) and cross flow heads. It is not a true cross flow because the valves are in line thus limiting the size of the intake and exhaust ports and even the 1600 engine did not put out more than 80 hp. The Lotus twin cam put out about 120 hp which was a lot back in the day.

Have you changed the gearing otherwise it over revs. And it will be in the red at top end and wear the engine. With that bhp and the right gearing it should hit about 120

Alan's moved south - the 2 doors were very nice especially in white, they looked like lotus cortina if lowered and wider wheels. The 2 door seemed a lot lighter than the 4 door and definitely handled better.

What the hell did they do to the suspension and wheels ? the suspension is too high ( it looks like it has been jacked up ) the wheels are totally wrong. Mesh air filters are as much use as a chocolate tea pot ( should have put a pair of K&N'S on ) with no power loss . Oh and loose the rubbish stripes

@@johncauser9705 TBH having watched again I think the wheels are too wide hence the ride height. Stock wheels on the GT were 5.5jJ those look like 7J, I think 6J with normal offset are about as wide as will go under the stock arches.

Fords were known as Dagenham dustbins back in the 1960s and 70s they weren’t particularly well made and used to rust out very badly very quickly I don’t know why people are paying so much money for them I guess it’s just nostalgic and the fact Ford got them placed into a lot of tv series back in the day

I'm pretty sure heavens carpark is a carpark full of MK2 cortinas, and I have the keys. Hell is the same carpark and they took the keys away. My first car was a 1600xl crossflow, God I loved that car. Work dictated I drove Passat TDIs great cars but not in the same league as the mk2s. I am retired now, and if I had the money, it would be a no brainer for me, another MK2 would be mine lol😃

My Father had a 1500GT Mk 2, 2 door, but built with a 1600e interior, by Ford from the factory, i beleive there was only a couple made like that, Fathers car was in Saluku Bronze, basicly a shitty metalic brown colour!

back in the early 80,s in a barn in surrey was a red two door jeff uren savage mark 2 cortina. it was a1968. im sure it had a wooden dash which would have meant 1600e. i know there were no 2 door 1600e,s made in the uk but something rings in my head about austrailian spec can anyone confirm this. i wanted it so bad but was too young
