Russia and Ukraine have exchanged a large number of prisoners of war in a deal brokered by the United Arab Emirates. The two sides have each released 115 captives. It's the first deal since Kyiv's forces launched a surprise attack into Russia's western Kursk region nearly three weeks ago.

Just out of curiosity: The Russian soldiers held prisoner are given alternatives to being returned to Russia, including volunteering for the Ukrainian forces. What percentage of Russian soldiers refuse to return because I am assuming none of the Ukrainian soldiers are refusing a return trip.

With Russians reporting that they are treated better as prisoners by the Ukraine than how they were treated as conscripts, you have to image the Russians know they are returning to conscription or worse. The Ukrainians are returning to (locally) premium medical care, leave and post-evaluation before having to return to duty. Even with this state of war the differences are definitely worth consideration.

Glory to Ukraine! Full mobilization for what purpose? Russia's industrial base is already strained trying to replace the heavy equipment destroyed already. Can Russia feed, clothe, arm tens of thousands of raw recruits that will need training before they are of any use? Assuming they can get the supplies they need do they have the means to get those men and machines to the front line? Russia is discovering a lesson they should already have learned - wars are expensive. Every Ruble spent on the war is a Ruble taken out of their economy. The question that should be asked (inside Russia) is even if they win, what have they won? Was the price too high? My uninformed opinion is that the military is going to ask that question and decided it would be easier and cheaper to replace Poo-tin then to continue to fight Ukraine.

@@mariofreire2715 The surprise effect died down, they’ve taken most of it in the first 4-5 days. Doubt they’ll be taking much more. That’s how offensives work. Move fast, take large chunks of territory, consolidate, then slowly move forward. However, they’re just gonna be sitting ducks in Russia, at the mercy of FPV drones, and artillery, and the disadvantage of fighting in unknown territory while not having air superiority. I give it a few months.
