Yeah, it's also very obvious that Telegram was compromised by the FSB a few years ago too. So even the supposed encrypted chats aren't safe. Pavel Durov was "in exile", but returned to Russia over 50 times during that period, including the days when the Kremlin abruptly unbanned Telegram.

Also app permissions. If Telegram is owned by a Russian company, how can you trust that it doesn't use location permissions for their own spying. Just because it might hide location from other users, doesn't mean it isn't logging that data for themselves.
