General Breedlove has won a new fan, not that he needs another. Everything he says is spot on. Our restraint in the face of the Russian threats smacks of cowardice. We need to learn to utter the phrase, "When Ukraine is victorious", and come to understand that means we will provide all that is needed to achieve that pointed end.

Anthing less than a complete victory for Ukraine, dispelling all Russian forces from all occupied territories of Ukraine incl. Crimea, will be a loss and defeat for our own future. If Putin/ Russia wins anything thing this, we will have a future that we don't wish for. SO time to give the Ukrainians the *victory load* of weapons they need for a complete victory, now.

Now, if only someone will listen. Speaker expressed common view of most for last 6-9+ months, but governments not listening to citizens. Too afraid of Russia and escalation. Can't count times I've contacted lawmakers. Wish we could show same courage as Ukrainians, and then war could be over this year. Speaker kind enough not to point out countries deterring themselves. One is mine, US. Plenty of bipartisan lawmakers (and former NATO generals) here trying to move President past his escalation fear, but unmovable yet, and they don't have the power to make it happen without him. War needs to be won before our next election in case power changes. But, as over cautious as President is, one from other party won't do anything. Reason I left party after 20 years. A lot of us are. Think big surprise coming for that party who didn't listen when we called. I support Ukraine, to the end, no matter what! Big House bipartisan committee meeting this week. Many feel Russia gone well past war crimes into genocide. US is signatory to Geneva genocide convention. And we didn't make arrangements for Lavrov to attend next UN meeting so far. Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇸🇺🇦

Best analysis and position I have heard. He is correct on all points. If you plan to win the Marathon, you don’t do it running an inch a day. You commit and execute. You load up with calories and water and run. Ukraine is doing an incredible job and are now well seasoned and bloodied warriors. Their fight is a righteous one and winning is only option vs slavery. The west has given them a few inches here and there but not all the tools they need to expel Russia … unnecessarily costing Ukrainian military and civilian loses. Delays do not favor Ukraine. Delays favor Putin. And gives him time to find support from like aggressor nations. Russia will not win a nuclear war. No one will but we must stop being intimidated. Glory to Ukraine!

Ukraine does not have the the ability to use many of the Jets from the Western powers and frankly training on the modern Aircraft takes a very long time. Given how expensive they are you are not going to hand them over to Ukraine to use. The rest of the equipment yes. I am probably in a small minority when I say Western Military should be in Ukraine with the sole purpose of restoring the borders. We are just dipping a toe in the water instead of diving in and getting it done with. That said I don't believe the European public has the stomach to see that happening hence Governments continue to be very cagy and slow to react.

Both Breedlove, and Hodges have been saying that the US need to state that they want Ukraine to win, and then supply Ukraine with the weapons to make it so. This idea to not give Ukraine long range precision munitions because it might upset Russia is nuts. Wherever Russia is launching strikes into Ukraine should be targeted, and struck. It's past time to pressure US politicians to support Ukraine with the all means necessary to push Russia out of Ukraine ASAP.

I'm not so obsessed with the US declaring exactly what they plan to achieve. China is listening and might understand a loud commitment of enormous ressources to Ukraine as a sign that there isn't much left to counter their own expansionist moves. I saw some interesting analysis that Russia's grip on Crimea is much more tenuous than it may appear. Up to this point, Crimea is linked to Russia by essentially a single bridge. The logistics of controlling a huge area like Crimea when you have to squeeze everything through a tiny, fragile bottleneck of a bridge are not great. Part of the reason Putin undertook this misadventure to claim the regions along the Russian border was not because he really cares about those areas in and of themselves, but so that he has a nice wide land bridge into Crimea.

@@wrshannon74 I suspect you are right. Donetsk and Lugansk voted 83% in favour of independence WITH Ukraine. Crimea only voted 53% for independence with Ukraine on a low turn out. However, that doesn't alter the legalities. Russia guaranteed Ukraine's territorial integrity when Kiev gave up nuclear weapons in the mid 1990s. Furthermore, Putin's Russia made no claim against Ukraine over the Crimea until AFTER it had occupied it. Russia has no legal claim on Crimea. Furthermore, nearly half the Russian-speaking population of Crimea is the result of Moscow-sponsored colonization within my lifetime. Until about 1939 Russians were a minority in Crimea. Stalin then exiled the entire native Tartar population (up to 46% may have died) and brought in Russians to replace them. I like how the citizens of the USA feel their government can do what it likes and there won't be any retaliation. You could be nuked eventually - think about that prospect. Then think again if this pro Ukraine bravado is worth it. Remember that drone worth 32 million dollars that the Russians downed over Black Sea recently? That was a message to the USA - you are not invulnerable. Doh.

Perhaps you don't know that "real" Russians have always felt that Ukraine in NATO is an existentialist threat for their country! This is what current CIA director and US ambassador to Russia in 2008, William Burns, said then in a diplomatic cable to Washington! The US was willing to go to war with the then Soviet Union over stationing of their nuclear missiles in Cuba in 1962 because it considered this to be an existential threat. Russia will fight to the end to prevent Ukraine from becoming a NATO member! For the US Ukraine is totally unimportant, and its being or not being in NATO is immaterial for their security!

The general is merely stressing a teaching point learned at any staff or war college. What is the political end state? Why are we using the military element of power? Answers to these questions are the starting point for campaigns and major operations. Example: Putin announced his desired end state at the very beginning. Also, the Ukrainians have a desired end state (reclaim all sovereign land). NATO has an interest in keeping Ukraine on life support and being successful but not at the risk of escalation. Once you announce your end state (eg. to win) then all cards are on the table. The west is not yet comfortable with doing this and so we “self deter”.

To their credit, the RuZZians have been doing well in Bakhmut. They took so much of the city, around 75% by April 12. However, despite suffering potentially high losses, the Ukrainians have held out since the battle started in August 1. Also, most of their success was by Wagner, so the RuZZian military is pretty much useless now. I find it absolutely PATHETIC that the west has been deterred from giving Ukraine all the equipment it needs.
