If one "digs deeper", one discovers the agreement with Brezhnev and west over the 'buffer zone' issue, and Brezhnev along with every RU leader since as seen NATO on its border as an 'existential threat', just as it was in 1962 when the roles were the same but reversed. Digging deeper, one comes across the 1997 speech by then Senator Biden recently re-aired, discussing the fact that NATO on RU's border would be seen as an existential threat to RU. Something the movie didn't cover which is interesting: the MSM harped on about Yanukovich's extravagant villa "angry Maidan protesters stormed the abandoned mansion, shocked at the opulence..." but they never mentioned that this was just the official state residence of Ukraine, where all his predecessors lived also. It's a smoke & mirrors world indeed...but one thing is for sure, Ukraine is just yet another country caught in the pincers of the Great Game of international intrigue and statecraft.

Because it's not some independent documentary as people believe, it's a well-funded, professional propaganda video which exactly plays the Russian narrative, to the letter. Saakashvili is a minor figure in Ukrainian politics. He resigned his position in Odessa a year after taking it, he was a friend of Poroshenko, then an enemy, then Zelensky reinstated his citizenship. Ukraine is corrupt for one single reason: affinity with Russia. Right now, Ukraine is cleaning up corruption, specifically because EU demands it. So Zelensky just had his former sponsor arrested, quite a problem for those who claim Zelensky is a "puppet" of oligarchs. No matter - the Russian propaganda will change to something else. Russia is launching missiles into civilian territories where there is no battle. That is terrorism. Oh and where are all the Nazi soldiers captured by Russia? The primary fact: There was a parliamentary vote to remove Yanukovych. This is what Russia calls a "coup". A parliamentary vote of 328-0 is not a coup. A coup is a physical takeover by militants. Lenin took over Russia by a coup (but they call it a revolution). The separatists took over Donetsk by a coup in April 2014 - occupying Government buildings. This parliamentary vote was followed by elections. The right wing Svoboda party got 1 seat out of 425. That is the level of 'Neonazi' influence in Ukrainian politics - less than 1%. Without the coup, the entire Russian narrative falls apart. This is an illegal invasion of a sovereign country, the supreme crime of Nuremburg, the same crime that Russians hate Nazis for (invading their country). "Nazi" in Russia doesn't mean jew-hating racists, it means violent anti-sovietism.

And this documentary was a good starting point. Very complex is the situation. The involvement of too many shady characters and geo-political stakeholders.

Interesting history. There is nothing especially disturbing... The US has undertaken 66 Coups in various forms since 1950 in 26 it was successful.. Eg Greece, Italy, Chile, The D R Congo too many to mention it's tactics are well studied and documented. I like many had little knowledge of Ukraine, it's history etc I had some knowledge but this film showed how Nationalism can be very ugly and reminds us that conflicts/war often mutate and take on savageries all of their own. How powerful nations manipulate/smaller ones in global power play politics. War should be avoided at all costs. The best book I have ever read on War.. Is by the great War correspondent who coverered many and was awarded a Pulitzer prize for his work.. Chris Hedges.. War is a force that gives us meaning". It should be read by all and is a salutary critique of War from one who has lived through various wars and lost many colleagues to its agents of death... Highly recommended book... My heart goes out to all who are scorched, maimed, killed on both sides; for those in conflict there is no peace, and it's price and prize is blood red stain and the stench of hate. This film should be given a prime time slot on a Sat eve so the issues raised could be discussed around the supper table? Great film and great interviews..thank you Igor for making this film.

Yes there are a few openly neonzi guys in Government, but the truth is that it has been a slow creep that is now a huge problem. Also just takw Azov as an example. It is real and it is deadly. They are extreme and hate Russians. Everybody is on edge...cant feel comfortable even speaking Russian in the street. And can NEVER speak Russian in job or professional setting. This is dangerous when 60% of Ukrainians are native Russian speakers. It is a kind of ethnic cleansing, fully pushed by far right and weaponized by Washington to divide Ukraine.
