There are 2 versions of the story: EU side of story: They think Russia is conquering Europe, Poland first, but Ukraine is first line of defense. With Ukraine war lost, Russia immediately goes after Poland and other EU countries. France said, they are preparing its Navy no longer for fighting piracy but against "those wishing to destroy us", probably speaking about Russia. Zelensky signed decree he will never negotiate, so in order to keep fighting, they will need money and support from EU until Russia is defeated. Russian side of story: Ukraine were attacking Russians (or Ukranian speaking russian) living in Crimea and Eastern regions. And to prevent Ukraine entering NATO whose countries funded the coup in Ukraine. There was some agreement between Russia and EU, of not expanding toward Russia, with coup in Ukraine that was broken, and war started. There were confirmed cases of neo-nazi soldiers in Ukraine, even entire regiments like Azov regiment, which provoked Russia even further for full scale war against Ukraine. Not my words, just what is said in both media.

Considering there are US and EU weapons,tanks, best offensive and defensive missiles and official military instructors in Ukraine against Russian soldiers, WW3 could have started any day until now. If i remember correctly, there were humvees who entered Russian region before being destroyed or captured. NATO military vehicles inside Russia. Just because Russia had restraint so far not to launch nukes, does not mean this is not WW3 scenario already. I would not be so eager to push this further if there is chance for not having actual WW3.
