Ukraine's army hold tank drills in Kharkiv region amid fears of new Russian assault

Ukrainian armed forces concluded three-day military tank drills in northeastern Kharkiv region as country’s senior military official warned of possible Russian assault from all fronts.
The rare footage shot by Reuters during the Jan 25-28 exercise was embargoed until Feb 2 for security reasons.
Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, told Ukrainian and international media he does not rule out another attack from the north, south and east around the date of February 24, the day when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Military experts say Moscow appears determined to push forward in the coming months before Kyiv receives hundreds of newly pledged Western battle tanks and armored vehicles for a counter-attack to recapture occupied territory this year.

The problem is if the Ukrainians know how to operate the Leopard and Abrams tanks. I heard from videos these tanks are not easy to operate. I hope they were taught how to operate these tanks as quickly as possible.

Leopards 2s and Abrams are more user friendly and actually easier to operate than old T-72. But like anything else, you need to spend some time learning which button to press, how to fix things and stuff. Polish Leopard 2 instructors from Swietoszow training center say that it will take at least 5 week to train Ukrainian crews.

Leopard 2 is difficult to learn yes, i know though, that Denmark and Germany are discussing repurchasing old Leopard 1 tanks that Denmark sold aproximately 10 years ago that are currently stored in germany. The Leopard 1 is on the contrary a very easy tank to learn and use. One of my buddies who is a tank commander in the Danish defense, told me that the Leopard 1 felt very natural to use, and he was really sad to see it replaced for the more modern Leopard 2. After learning the Leopard 2, obviously that is a more capable tank on every parameter. However the Leopard 1 is an insanely great tank to keep behind the front line. It can still pack a punch capable of even the most modern tanks. It is however very vulnerable, and probably won't survive more than 1 direct hit from even sovjet era anti tank weaponry.

According to a Polish instructor, who are now giving a military training course to Ukraine soldiers as to how-to-operate their Leopard 2 in Poland, it would usually take at least two-month training. Hopefully Ukraine soldiers learn and get accustomed to all the new tanks (not limited to Leopard 2) they are receiving in shorter period.

Whenever I first watch these videos I look at the vegetation and lay of the land. These are recently harvested fields. This video was in the fall. If it was recent the ground would be frozen with snow patches.

Definitely, those tanks need to be protected by infantry, IFVs, recon drones otherwise those Leopards may end up like Turkish Leopard 2 tanks in Syria where ISIS was shooting at those tanks from all sides. Another issue is that Turks used Leopard 2 tanks for urban combat which is a bad idea.

Ukraine troops are being taught to commit suicide. Russian tank doctrine in a combined arms operation is that every two tanks are protected by a BMP-19 or BMPT-Terminator with Kornet anti tank missiles with a range of 8 to 12 km and can carry thermobaric warheads and well as twin canon that would make short work of the infantry in this exercise, and the same applies to Russian Mi-28 and KA-52 helicopters that also protect the tanks. The Bradleys and Stykers being proved for the infantry are no match for this firepower.
