My unit was not combat arms, but several guys were former infantry. I would see them break in new boots (back when all leather, they'd wear them wet and let them conform as they dried), then put them up until they were needed. Much respect to infantry.

I’m 🇨🇦 and farm in Ontario. It takes a lot longer than 3 or 4 days to freeze the ground to the point that it could support a heavy vehicle. In fact, in fields that have decent snow cover the ground generally remains unfrozen beneath the snow.

Interesting, I never thought of that. If it gets VERY cold, that might help the Ukrainians. I have read stories by Germans during WWII about the dreaded winter in Russia. In one example: a German tank crew was well protected because their Tiger tank easily shrugged off 37mm ammo but when they woke up the following morning, it was frozen to the ground. Chipping away with axes was useless and they didn't dare waste their ammunition, which was already starting to run low. They were forced to use hand grenades to break up the ice just to get it moving!

The biggest mistake is to underestimate the enemy which is what this turkey is doing with his half baked knowledge. The smaller nuclear armed Kh-55 missile is very similar to its conventionally armed clone the Kh-101. The Kh-55 is obsolete as a means of nuclear weapons delivery, Even the Kh101 is likely to be superseded, as the Tu-22 platform will be retired by 2023. Both the Kh101 and Kh55 are supersonic missiles, not hypersonic. The world is transitioning to hypersonic missiles, and Russia is quickly inducting Tsirkon and Khinzal missiles to replace the Kh55 and Kh101s. Russia's current primary nuclear delivery system is via Sarmat ICBMs and Avangard hypersonic space glide vehicles, not obsolete Kh-55 . The main platform for hypersonic missiles are upgraded Mig 31 Ks, So Russia has large stocks of Kh-55s. So what is to be done with the Kh55's? Obvious answer, Use them as decoys since they have a similar radar signature to protect the Kh 101s that do the REAL damage. Even if intercepted the spent debris and burning fuel causes extensive damage. Which is why even after a claimed 95% success rate of interceptions 3/4 of Ukraine is in darkness.

Trenchfoot is caused by continuous wetness, not freezing cold. Trenchfoot is a serious problem but frostbite is FAR worse. That is fatal if not treated quickly. Russian officers will probably accuse their troops of getting it deliberately and shoot them!

Except the difference then was that no one possessed the capability to launch weapons of mass destruction. What worries me is if or when the Russians lose in Ukraine, Putin may simply bypass several security protocols established by the UN and attack most of his enemies with such weapons, thus kicking off a nuclear holocaust. If the West is to succeed in the long-term, it needs to support anti-Kremlin organisations within Russia so that when Putin fails, they can quickly depose him and his cronies and we can have a moderate and sensible government back in Moscow as opposed to some infantile tyrant who threatens the big red button with anyone that says no to him.

The orcs are Already retreating and being forced out of Ukraine as we type, after winter the front lines will be much closer to Russia and with the orcs building defenses in crimea the Russians know this very clearly. All those mobics on the front line are dying from the cold already and second and third lines will see the same deaths. Not a good time to be an orc.

My father was an officer in the trenches of YPRES IN WW1 and spoke of the necessity of keeping your feet healthy,apart from using gas masks to avoid the effects of MUSTARD GAS.He was blinded by the gas ,recovered ,but subsequently died later in life from TB which infected the scars left on his lungs from the gassing!BLOODY WARS!!

listen to Douglas Macgregor instead - more informed and accurate than our media. Clarke slips out now and then which tells me he's following a line. In this episode, he knows fine well that Russia modernised it's nuclear forces but tries to spin using old soviet missiles. They're having a clear-out - just as the West is by supplying Ukraine with as much old stuff as we can while many NATO members get obligations of modern US equipment.
