Russian Ship in a Norwegian Port? Are they welcome? Is this legal? We took a tour of Båtsfjord, a stunning Norwegian fishing village in the far North. It was such a charming by little town as I was curious about life in the small settlements.
Hope you enjoy! Thank you for your support! 🙏 ⬇️

Thank you very much Noel! One thing I’ve found very interesting on my travels, the geographic similarities across the North Atlantic. From Breton to the west coast of Ireland, all very similar and seemingly cut out much the same on the coast line. Here in Norway you will see similarities, just much higher mountain peaks.

Båtsfjord is a quiet place... Only 50 km from the Russian sea border and 130 km from nearest Russian military base, the 200th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Pechenga Order of Kutuzov Brigade, as the crow flies. Guarding the enormous Russian Navy Northern Fleet in Murmansk (the harbour with the highest number, once over 200, of nuclear submarines and doomsday ICBMs on the planet), just 90 kilometers east of Pechenga. ...But quiet, yes.

14:08 That Norwegin flag on the foremast is a curtesy to the country the ship has entered. The home country (national) flag is flown at the stern. As the other ship shows. What I find astonishing is that those Russian ships have very little rust on their hulls. I am used to the Soviet rustbuckets where you didbn't know whether the rust held them together or it was used as camouflage.
@littlekong7685

Thats because these ships have no Russian crew on them. Most ships do things like: Register in Russia, contract out of Norway, cargo deliver to Finland, hire a Swedish Captain and have Filipino crew. It also makes sanctioning tougher.

From Juli 2024 - Norway introducing new restrictions for Russian fishing vessels at the three Norwegian ports partially exempt from the port ban. Currently, Norway has closed all its ports to Russian vessels, with the exception of Tromsø, Båtsfjord and Kirkenes ports, which are partially open to Russian fishing vessels. This meant that Russian fishing vessels could call at these three ports and be allowed to unload fish, change crew and resupply. In addition, the vessels had no restriction on how long they could stay at berth in the three ports.

At of this time fisheries are in abit of crises here in Norway, I live in the neighbour town of Båtsfjord. All small communities here are quite open, my town have people from over 20 countries living here, even Russians and Ukranians ... Working at a fishfactories is okey paid and you can make a living of it... also there are incentives to live up here in the north (Finnmark) like we get some tax-cut that is special for this area, as from this year kindergarden is free so that make families who have small children save like 3000 nok each child they have at the kindergarden. If you have studenloans ... you get some writeoff there and some other incentives as well but yeah ... food is more expensive, travel can be more expensive, petrol is probably more expensive... If you get on a boat however, you make more money than working at land ... But then again... you have a beautiful part of Norway to live at, low crimerate, get to get good friends up here, we are more open than in the south..

Regarding "grey minced meat", no worries. They use gas while packaging, and it keeps it red color, almost. If small amounts of oxygen get in the package, and it will by time, it turns grey on the surface. Trust the expirer date and remember, when you open it and it smells funky, just return it. Goes for any food, but it almost never happens. They will not stop you and shouldn't ask any questions. They will, because they are curious, they are humans. Just answer, it doesn't smell right. I want a new one, and you will get a new one.

Thanks for this information. Do you possibly know to which extent these towns are dependent on Russian products? Are Norwegian fishermen also using Russian ports?
