My wife Nataliia and I traveled from Kiev to Zaporizhia and back a few times on the train. Kiev station was the most beautiful station I have ever seen, and the small museum there was so thrilling! We had so much fun. I loved all the little stops along the way. I had read since a little boy of the history and the beauty of Eastern Europe, and finally I was there. I could not sleep at all on my first trip, later I let the train rock my wife and I to sleep...I cannot wait until we again return to my adopted country.

I am so happy to learn about your experience! This is amazing! "I had read since a little boy of the history and the beauty of Eastern Europe, and finally I was there." Kharkiv also has a nice train station, and maybe you will see it one day!) Your comment is very poetic!)

Yes, it is really annoying that they alway need to collect the sheets like an hour before arrival. They must be very nervous that you should not wake up on time.

I took one of those trains from Dnipro to Crimea back in 2005. We had a first class room with just me and my fiancee. The train itself wasn't that bad for an American, however back then the bathroom on those trains was an experience unlike anything I've seen before - they have these sinks with giant round knobs which look like they would be for hot and cold water - but NO, they didn't really serve a function. Typical American like myself, thought by turning these big knobs water would come out the spigot. But NO, in order for water to come - get this - you have to push the spigot upwards so the water will come down!!!! Of course after about 15 minutes trying to figure that out, and getting soaked in the process - the next challenge in the bathroom of the train was trying to flush the toilet. Of course there was not a handle to flush, that would be too easy :) I had to search on the bottom of the floor for a foot peddle that flushes it. That took another 10 minutes as it was not an easy thing to find. There was a nice feature though on our 12 hour journey to Crimea, and that was they bring you hot chi (tea) in the morning and of course you get a pillow, and some blankets for sleeping. If anyone from Western Europe or America plan to go to Ukraine and take a train, keep these tips in mind :)

You should ride a train just to have the experience if you like... Otherwise, there are many other convenient options for short distance travel....

Nice video. Do they serve dinner in the train or do you have to bring you own food through out the trip?

The answer is: you have to bring you own food through out the trip. They have snacks only.

When I was little , my family and I traveled 3rd class in a train from Ternopil , Ukraine to Vitebsk , Belarus to visit my grandma. I always like traveling there because they lived in a country side. You get to see cows, sheep's, chickens, pigs and horses. Great video. Two thumbs up.
