After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, underground resistance movements found ways to fight back. Some locals sent information about Russian troop movements to the Ukrainian military. Others painted the Ukrainian flag on buildings and monuments.

Partisans who are captured are more likely to be summarily executed than regular combatants. And the fact that they are operating within enemy territory means a very high level of courage is required. Nothing but respect for this brave defenders of their homeland.

Their honor and their struggle reminds everybody watching them of the ukrainian, baltic and, in general, eastern european partisans of the mid 1900s, struggling and facing tremendous horrors against the nazi and soviet regimes looking to break and occupy their countries. Unbelievable people.

The US Army studied the problem of insurgency in depth- they reached the conclusion that the ratio for successful counter insurgency work there needs to be 1 soldier for every twenty civilians. If the Russians had overrun the Ukraine, with a population of 44 million the Russians would need an army of 2,200,000 troops to control the country. In other words, Russia could have taken the country but wouldn't have enough men to keep it under control.

Yep. See operation banner. Britain reached the same conclusion. Don't know the dates so can't say who could have spared themselves a whole lot of trouble and disappointment. Long messy affairs those colonizations. The tree remembers, long after the axe forgets. TAL.

The secrecy of partisan operations, can sometimes manifest itself in strange ways. I knew a guy in South America, who has an 18-year old son. The kid was only interested in girls and partying and the dad was fed up with him. Now, one fine day, there was a call for an uprising and the father, who was part of the underground, went to join up with another column to carry out a common attack. And who is there....his son. They hav been living in the same house, but none of them suspected, that the other was a partisan.

@eub34 As above, a guerrilla fighter/someone who joins a militia to fight an occupying force, a bit like the insurgents who were fighting allied forces in Iraq and Syria or Che Guevara's boys. They are not an official army and often haven't had any formal training and usually have an agenda or ideal that they are working towards. Not to be confused with the adjective bi-partisan, which means something supported by two political parties. Or artisanal, meaning expensive hand made food that nobody buys.

My grandparents, and many of their siblings and friends, were in the Italian resistance during WW2...many of them survived, when their were old and I was a young child we'd sit down to dinner together. I had a weird feeling watching this video, as I do when reading about the resistance in other parts of Ukraine that have been recently liberated, like I'm related to these guys. Respect! I wish you all long and happy lives in your beautiful country.💙💛

@Mad Man Mechanic Sadly the stories are pretty traumatic [TRIGGER WARNING], like driving past a little shrine on the road and being told that some friends of my grandparents had been executed by Nazis at that spot, or my granddad being tortured in a fascist prison (he survived but was never the same again). Or my other granddad getting arrested towards the end of the Nazi occupation (he wasn't even a fighting partisan, just a known antifascist) and only managing to escape because of an Allied raid taking place while he was getting transported. Parts of the stories were repeated a lot, others were always left out, so I grew up with a strange, partial perspective on those events that I haven't yet managed to shake off. But that's taught me a lot about how that sort of trauma - collective and individual at once - is processed over time and across generations. Thank you for asking 🙂

(Could have use nmap tool for example) If the cameras had default credentials still which they probably did, then logging into them would be trivial via a web browser and their IP address. Nice work dood. 👍

for those who can't tell the difference, the IT specialist is a native Russian speaker. Yes, one of those that pootin was claiming to "liberate" from "genocide". And if you guys watch combat videos, you'll hear about 50% of the Ukrainian soldiers speaking Russian among themselves. But I guess many of them will be switching to Ukrainian on a day-to-day basis after this whole debacle is over.

Looks like this kind of resistance by civilians was envisioned and had the basics organized before the war. Sounds way too good to be totally spontaneous. Reminds me the various infamous NATO stay behind networks all over Europe during the first cold war. Would love to know more after the war ends!

@abugina Interesting bit about the Ultras etc civilian organizations. Although, what caught me and made think that something must have been in place beforehand was the speed of the organization of the civilian resistance. We are talking about hours here, not even days. I mean if i am just in a Union and war breaks out, i will firstly try to get my family out, then try to enlist and then after several days or weeks start thinking about my old life contacts and organized resistance. Anyway, good points and i also have to point out that i have never been the victim of an invasion, so i am just saying.

People who have been organized before will have structures and trust levels in place. For example Unions, Ultras (Football Club Supporters), Antifa Groups etc already have some expierence in avoiding arrest , detection and planning and executing clandestine actions. There are other examples in History. The Arab Spring for example. From Tunis to Egypt different Ultra Groups burried the hatchet and were essential in organizing the protest and already had much expierence in pitch battles and clandestine actions. During the occupation of France in WW2 , it was Union members who organzied the first resistence cells together with former militias from Spain. Anybody who is actually involved in organisation of any type in civilian life could become the seed of a resistance cell.

The value of partisan operations cannot be overstated. Denmark's partisans were of enormous value to Allied forces in WWII - they tracked ship movements from the Baltic to the North sea, giving the Allies an edge in the war at sea, and their bridge sabotage delayed significant German reinforcements from reaching Normandy after the D-Day invasion. Intel is king on the battlefield, and partisans are the best at getting it, and often the best at acting on it. Real-time artillery corrections, real time troop movements, interference with C3 assets. Sabotage. The list goes on and on. The Russians will break, and the Ukrainian partisans will play a huge role in that.

These people display such bravery in the face of so many attrocities, and yet my government is still holding out on so much support. Germany does a lot, sheltering a million people, giving kids the education they need, providing a few weapons...but especially compared to our eastern allies, my god, we should do soooo much more. Bahá’u’lláh The Reluctant Prophet An edited translation of the following article was printed in the weekly color insert of "Dainik Bhaskar", India's largest newspaper - reaching an audience of over 13.1 million. A Prisoner and an Exile August 31, 1868. It was a swelteringly hot, humid stench that met Bahá’u’lláh on the shore of prison city of ‘Akká. Surrounded by Turkish soldiers, he made his way up the black muddy beach towards the sea gate. Exhausted, humiliated, tortured, exiled, slandered, betrayed by his own brother - and now imprisoned in the most desolate penal colony of the Turkish Empire. An angry mob had gathered to revile, curse and taunt him. It was not the first time he had been pelted by a mob on his way to prison. A Prince in Deed Born in 1817 to wealth and nobility, eldest son of a leading Minister to the Royal Court of Persia, Bahá’u’lláh had inherited a care-free life including a vast estate, position and wealth. But from the earliest years there was much about this youth which did not fit the image of a spoiled young prince. Eschewing comforts and diversions of the privileged, he became renowned for generosity, compassion and a magnetic character. Only 22 years of age when his father passed away, Bahá’u’lláh was immediately offered his father’s position as Minister. Surprisingly, he refused the post. When asked about this refusal, the Prime Minister replied “Such a position is unworthy of him... His thoughts are not like ours. Let him alone.” The Break of Dawn Five years later a millennial light broke on the somber horizon of Persia. From the city of Shiraz, an eloquent youth, known to history as the Báb, put forward the impossible claim that he had been sent by God to prepare for the coming of a great Universal Teacher whose Cause would unite the fragmented spiritual heritage of humankind. A passionate wave of inquiry swept across the land and the panicking clergy quickly denounced the Báb as a dangerous heretic. He was arrested, imprisoned in a remote mountain fortress and finally executed under dramatic circumstances. His followers and admirers were hounded out and slaughtered or bludgeoned into silence. Shocking friends and family, the young nobleman, Bahá’u’lláh, immediately arose in the face of great danger to champion this new Cause - abandoning rank, title, lands and wealth. It was October 1852 in Tehran and Bahá’u’lláh was surrounded by brutal soldiers. For nine years he had championed the Báb’s Cause and for this he was now on his way to prison. The soldiers half-heartedly restrained a howling mob which pelted him with insults and stones as he stumbled forward towards the dreaded subterranean prison known as the “Black Pit”. As a special torture Bahá’u’lláh was freighted with a unique set of chains - fifty kilos of cold iron - tearing his clothing, cutting through flesh, pressing against and bending bone itself. Four long months he endured the black extremes of human cruelty. It was into this place, a place of unyielding darkness and agony, that the finger of God reached out and touched - placing a new light into the world of man. “...though the galling weight of the chains and the stench-filled air allowed Me but little sleep, still in those infrequent moments of slumber I felt as if something flowed from the crown of My head over My breast, even as a mighty torrent that precipitateth itself upon the earth from the summit of a lofty mountain. Every limb of My body would, as a result, be set afire. At such moments My tongue recited what no man could bear to hear.” A Sacred Mission Released from imprisonment, Bahá’u’lláh was a changed Being - charged with a divine mandate and galvanized with an overwhelming vision of the earth as one homeland of a united human race. And when he spoke, many recognized his voice. “Bend your minds and wills to the education of the peoples and kindreds of the earth...” “Noble I made thee, wherewith dost thou abase thyself?” “Let not a man glory in that he loves his country; let him rather glory in this, that he loves his kind.” Assailed by forces of fanaticism and ignorance, Bahá’u’lláh was banished from his native land to Baghdad and thence to Constantinople, Adrianople and finally to the Turkish prison city of ‘Akká, in modern-day Israel, where he remained incarcerated and in whose neighborhood he passed away in 1892. “I have been, most of the days of My life, even as a slave, sitting under a sword hanging on a thread, knowing not whether it would fall soon or late upon him.” Over the course of forty years of exile and imprisonment, Bahá’u’lláh expounded, in over a hundred volumes, the elements of His Faith. He proclaimed his Cause to the kings and rulers of both East and West. He addressed the Pope, the Caliph of Islam and the Chief Magistrates of the Republics of the American continent. In numerous epistles he boldly challenged them to abandon petty selfish concerns, warning them of the consequences of failing to appreciate the forces of a newly rising World Order. At times he described, with chilling accuracy, their impending downfall, such as in these words to Napoleon III: “Hath thy pomp made thee proud? By My Life! It shall not endure...” “For what thou hast done, thy kingdom shall be thrown into confusion, and thine empire shall pass from thine hands...” The Reluctant Prophet Such, in brief, were the life and teachings of Bahá’u’lláh; Sage, Saint, and modern-day Prophet. Although Bahá’u’lláh is widely known for his visionary and liberal teachings, what is not well known is the degree of his personal sacrifice required to make this mark in human history. Were it not for the cold, how would the heat of Thy words prevail, O Expounder of the worlds? Thou seest the hearts are filled with hate, and to overlook is Thine... When the swords flash, go forward! When the shafts fly, press onward! O Thou Sacrifice of the worlds.
