Ukrainian Patriotic Song - Prayer for Ukraine (1885)

"Prayer for Ukraine" (Ukrainian: Молитва за Україну, romanized: Mołytwa za Ukrajinu) is the main nominee for the spiritual anthem of Ukraine. There are several versions of the lyrics written by Oleksandr Konysky. The melody was composed by Mykola Lysenko.
On 14 July 1998 with the initiative of the Cabinet of minister of Ukraine, this church hymn was part of the law project registered under #1229 "About the text of the State Anthem of Ukraine and the Spiritual Anthem of Ukraine. The author of the project was Anatoliy Holubchenko, the native of Mariupol and former vice-premier minister of Ukraine (1997-99). On 24 December 1999 the project was withdrawn.

When I was a young teenager back in the 1950's this song was sung after every Sunday Liturgy at Saint Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Hearing again today has brought me to tears for Ukraine and Her People world wide. Slava Isusu Khristu! Slava Ukraini! Peremoha Ukraini!

@@anthemhub Wow! I see that You are in Edmonton. When I was 16 years old I joined the Basilian Fathers Monastery in Mundare, Alberta. I was there for two years before I left them. Every so often I would have to go to Edmonton to either Saint Josaphat's Cathedral or to the south side to Saint Basil's Church. I loved being in Mundare. Also I just should have stayed in Canada! Nowadays, just because the Church is in my neighborhood, I go to Saint George's Melkite Catholic Church here in Milwaukee. We also are a Byzantine Church and are almost identical to the Ukrainian Church. The Ukrainian community here is small but very dynamic. Their dance group "Dnipro" is so excellent. Thank You so much. I enjoyed Your response and being able to respond to You.

The Ukrainian churches in Edmonton are definitely some of the most beautiful buildings in the city! I had a chance to hear a Ukrainian men's choir a while back (I can't remember which church they were from) and Ukrainian choir music is amazing. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
