"What a moonlight night" 🌠 ("Ніч яка місячна") is a Ukrainian song, the words of which were written by Mykhail Starytskyi, although in most sources it is referred to as a "folk song". The music was written by Nikolay Lysenko, and later by Andrei Voloshchenko and Vasily Ovchinnikov. The music of A. Voloshchenko and V. Ovchinnikov was printed in the 3rd part of V. Shevchenko's "School of Playing Bandure" in V. Grosse's printing house in 1914.
The earliest known recording of the romance was made in 1937 by Nikolay Platonov with the accompaniment of Oscar Sandler (piano), L. Rosenfeld (violin) and V. Khotinsky (cello). The only known surviving copy of a gramophone record with this record of the Nogin gramophone factory is in the private collection of Oleg Besedin (Dnipropetrovsk).
The song is performed in the film "Only "old men" go to battle" by Mykolaim Kondratyuk.
