Looking at their "camp" strewn with garbage says a lot about their training and discipline. One of the things that was drilled into us in boot camp was to clean up after ourselves. This included "police call" in the mornings keeping our bunks and barracks neat and clean. Also inspections. To this day I keep some of those habits and can't stand a messy house.

Wearing the uniform of another nation with its nationality marking is forbidden by the Hague Conventions and punishable. I don't know how Russia is treating this, but there where times were this could result in an execution when getting caught. Besides that it gives those propagandists on Russian TV the possibility to construct the lie, that Germany is sending soldiers to Ukraine. So not the best idea.

Because back before the interwebs and disposable fashion, we of an alternative/poor bent used to do our clothes shopping in army surplus stores, and german gear was cheap, plentiful and pretty high quality for the price. I still remember my old second-hand german para boots. They outlasted practically every pair of boots I've ever owned, despite me wearing them all the time, and to every gig, festival and muddy field i ever went to. 😄

At this point a lot of them were forced there, so by default they're slaves, not soldiers or conscripts or whatever euphemisms normie psychopaths come up with to justify abuse of men. Also another way that could be understood is as just yet another xenophobic/fascist tribal logic, by which you could schitzo style self-justify any inquisition psycho acts. Like trying to justify concentration camps of japanese immigrants in the states in ww2.

You are no longer a lawful combatant when you abandon your uniform - which means that the lawful protections granted to troops is not necessarily a right upon capture. That means that their treatment is subjective to the capturing nations oversight, and no longer necessarily the prospect of international war law protections. I'd say it's a bad gamble to make.

@@JRyan-lu5im Hey, given many cases of violations on behalf of Russian invasion being investigated, it's hard to think much quarter is being given by the Ukranians and perhaps the Russians combatants know this. It is hard to be quoting from the book of international law when the other side have been doing the opposite in many cases right? I would not condone anyone breaching treatment of prisoners though and would hope they rose above but have had to fight hard so in such situations quoting chapter and verses is for lawyers, not soldiers right ? In the same way the US soldiers would have largely risen above the acts of the Nazis in ww2. There will always be the case of someone seriously tainted by something they saw though and then who knows what may happen. Live by the sword, etc.

@@JRyan-lu5im At Otto Skorzeny's trial in 1947, the tribunal concluded that going into battle not in uniform was only a war-crime if you *go into battle* not in uniform: Skorzeny was acquitted on the grounds of the lack of evidence that Skorzeny had given orders for his men to engage in combat while in U.S. uniforms: his defence argued that as long as enemy uniforms were discarded before combat started, such a tactic was a legitimate ruse de guerre, which the tribunal largely accepted (perhaps influenced by the fact that Allied SOE agents had carried out exactly the same kind of 'false flag' operations). Mind you, troops in the field tend to be less concerned about the specifics of legal precedent: I agree that's it's a dangerous gamble to make.

Being an enemy fighter and not recognisable as such might have nasty consequences. I think you'd much rather be cought in uniform, because than you will be recognized as a fighter. This soldier in civilian clothe might now be charged with terrorism... I totally stand behind Ukraine in this conflict. Nevertheless I hope that the Ukrainians show merci to these poor dudes who clearly put on civil dress in sheer panic. So if they haven't done anything bad, just make them POW, feed them and sent them home after the war is over...

Well according to all the interviews I’ve seen by incredible journalists in Ukraine of Russian POWs’ not one of them has “hurt” anyone! I think there’s probably around 300 interviews or maybe more now. So if Russian soldiers have not murdered, raped or tortured any Ukrainians, how has this happened. I’m just trying to make the point from your comment. How do you know if these captured now in civilian clothes are guilty of any of these crimes? Ukraine is adhering to the Geneva Convention and treating POWs’ humanely unlike Russia who continue their horrendous acts on Ukrainian POWs’. Glory to Ukraine. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

@@kathymay3980 Ofcourse they must be investigated. But if it becomes clear that they are just soldiers who are there because they followed orders, and if they haven´t done anything criminal, than I think they still should be recognized as combatants of an enemy country, and that they shouldn't be accused with spying. Convention (IV) respecting the Laws and Customs of War on Land and its annex: Regulations concerning the Laws and Customs of War on Land. The Hague, 18 October 1907. Annex to the Convention: Regulations respecting the laws and customs of war on land - Section II : Hostilities - Chapter II : Spies - Regulations: Art. 29. Art. 29.: "A person can only be considered a spy when, acting clandestinely or on false pretences, he obtains or endeavours to obtain information in the zone of operations of a belligerent, with the intention of communicating it to the hostile party. Thus, soldiers not wearing a disguise who have penetrated into the zone of operations of the hostile army, for the purpose of obtaining information, are not considered spies. Similarly, the following are not considered spies: Soldiers and civilians, carrying out their mission openly, entrusted with the delivery of despatches intended either for their own army or for the enemy's army. To this class belong likewise persons sent in balloons for the purpose of carrying despatches and, generally, of maintaining communications between the different parts of an army or a territory." So what I'm talking about is that these guys might be tried for spying. In some countries this is in wartime punished by death. So if these guys really are just soldiers, who didn't know that putting on civil clothes is about the last thing you should do, then please show merci. Having said this I also strongly think that soldiers responsible for the shelling of cities, raping women, torturing and executing civilians, and/or stealing proporties of Ukrainians should be punished harshly. And if necessary (so if Russia protects them) send to the International Crime Court in The Hague.

@@geertvanschaik7976 I agree with everything you have said. I believe from what I’ve seen that the Ukrainians will adhere to the laws. It’s just tragic that Russia does not! I try very hard not to feel hate in my life as it’s such a negative emotion and takes a lot of energy but it’s increasingly more and more difficult when I read of the atrocities that Russia is committing. These Russian soldiers chose, for whatever reason to go to fight in Ukraine and yet more are on their way. Ukraine didn’t start or invite this illegal war so I find it impossible to feel sympathy for them. What they should have been doing was march on Moscow where the richer people live and demand a better living wage instead of invading a sovereign nation for money which we all know will not be paid! I visited Russia years ago and saw the poverty for myself. I gave to so many begging for help! Putin doesn’t care for these people. Instead of spending on war he should be helping these poor people!

@@kathymay3980 You're right. But I don't think common people who have to become conscript in the Russian army have much choice. And also they thought they were on some exercise in Belarus and didn't expect to end they are involved in up in a war in Ukraine. And than also most of these guys are at a very young age and grew up in a culture where saying no is 'not-done' (to say the least). And so they went... I don't think these dudes can be held very responsible for being there. I do think though, that when they are somehow involved in atrocities, that they should be brought to court and sentenced. There is a difference between the responsibily of the leaders and the generals and individual responsibility of criminal soldiers. At least, that is my opinion.

@@geertvanschaik7976 Yes, I understand how they were tricked into invading a sovereign country but they chose to kill. I don’t understand this mentality. There is no way I could kill or harm another human being or animal. Their best option was just to surrender asap but some went on to do much more than kill.
