Ukrainian troops training on Leopard 2 tanks in Poland were visited by the country's President Andrzej Duda on Monday.
Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel - taught by Polish, Norwegian and Canadian instructors - have been learning how to operate and maintain the German-built tanks as they prepare to receive donations of western armour in the coming months.

The video showed the Leopard Training Center of 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade of General Stanislaw Maczek in Świętoszów, Poland. The Leopard training center has simulator training with computer generated combat scenarios that will be encountered in the battlefield with motion control in a Leopard tank compartment like fighter pilots do in flight training simulator.
@ccbcco

That's good! Because just learning to operate a particular tank does not train you to use tactics that optimize the tank's particular characteristics. Without knowing the right tactics for correct use - tanks are very vulnerable as we have seen again and again. Each tank needs to train in conjunction with 3 Bradleys and some dismounted spotter infantry with a drone to really learn the right tactics to keep the tank safe and lethal.

I saw an interview with a Polish instructor. (Quite a long time ago. A year or two.) In his opinion, it is easier to train a man who has not dealt with Russian tanks than one who has such experience. Because first you have to unlearn the habits of the tanker that he had in tanks of the T family, and then he should learn new habits that he must have on Western tanks. It's about muscle memory, in a fight you can't think, you have to act. Of course, combat experience is invaluable.

I don`t think so.If you change to Leopard and stay with this system,you can change your attitudes fast,too.And tactics and stragedy will be close or similar in tank combat.More confusing would be to change every week from russian tank to Leopard,and back.

I don't believe it, because when I switched from a small FIAT to a large VW, it wasn't any harder for me 😁 In addition, Polish soldiers are best suited to teach Ukrainians, because they know the differences and similarities between Soviet and Western tanks very well, because they used both.

For 30 years, the Russian Federation used the new technologies of the West for its militarization. The prolongation of the war and the gradual capture of new territories strengthens the idea of "Great Russia" in the hearts of Russians. The idea of "great Russia" will forever supplant the idea of the truth of Western values of tolerance and new technologies, without satellite-corrected point strikes on the locations of Russian troops, there will be no victory for the Western countries. The invasion in the direction of Kyiv was a write-off Soviet equipment. Russian intelligence knew very well what awaited the Russian army in the direction of Kyiv.

I fear that the A4s (the leos without the wedge shape turrets) will take heavy losses without any applique or reactive armor strapped onto them. The Leo2A4 is just too old to protect properly ... germany is the only country to actually deliver Leo2A6s (those with the stronger L55 gun and way better armor). Other countrys actually hoped for germany to decline the delivery of Leo tanks so they wont be able to deliver them aswell, like "Well I wanted to deliver but Germany wont let me" and now when they are able to deliver they wont ... only germany, canada and poland send leos as of now. With canada and poland sending their old Leo2A4s, I really hope they will at least recieve the polish upgrade pack or else they'll fail like the turkish A4's in Syria.

Nope, sadly those A4 will have a really hard time against T90s. If it were at least the Leopard 2A5 or better A6/7 variant then you might be right, but those A4s can only overpower T72 and be a equal match against T80. The main problems of the A4 is the much lighter and older armor, it's smaller L44 gun and older fire-controll + communication systems. The Leopard 2 is build as a tank who finds and strikes the target before it can see and attack the leopard. The much more modern T90 is a bad match in this regard because it has more modern electronic and a longer attack range with his bigger gun.

It's the NATO standard rounds and the ballistic work done by NATO countries on those projectiles to make the predicted trajectories more accurate than many others that makes the NATO tanks better . The first round hit ratio from an Abrams or Leopard is far better than Russian tanks in general . An Abrams M1 tank has a 90% first round hit ratio at 3000 meters if everyone does their job properly . Ukrainians have already displayed superior use of tanks than the Russians using the same Russian tanks . I think these new tanks will assist greatly in their next major counterattack .

@@georgebarnes8163 The question is how well that weight is distributed. I forgot where I saw it, but there was a pretty impressive demonstration of a tank and a car rolling across something and the car did a lot more damage to it simply because with the tank, the weight is distributed over a lot more surface in contact with the ground. The question is rather pressure per square centimeter, rather than raw weight, when it comes to whether the ground presents some problem.

Important is, that they bring in their experience with actual combat confrontation situations - and engineer the best and most efficient solutions for them based on this magic machine.
