It would help greatly if the soldiers firing Manpads are supplied with Polaroid (=polarized) sunglasses. It reduces the UV glare of the sky and makes it possible to spot the plane much more easy and much farther out. The polarized sunglasses will gain them a few precious seconds.

Suchomimus has a video up showing an ap created by the Ukrainians where citizens can select the type of airborne vehicle be it a missile, a jet, or a helicopter and point their smart phone in the direction of the airborne vehicles direction of travel. Hi from Ukraine. Thanks for staying on touch, guys. Winter has comed and loud liberations can became more rare. Its important for ukrainians, that you keep interest in our progress. Without your attention and request to your goverments in our support, many leaders are trying to persude Ukraine into negotiation proccess. For saving Russia as one country sake. Lend-lease initiative is stopped and no heavy vehicle are given in the near future. But much more danger lying into cease-fire with russians. They will use any time given to fortify and regroup, as they always do. And as country Russia have much more resourses and man power then Ukraine.

We will keep the pressure on for aid. And the Russians will not be able to mobilize fully before the war is over. They are hurting anyway because of sanctions, and their resources won’t be much if not many buy them. Some info on the conscripts: Report on conscripts at the front last month Daring Russian bloggers report on what is happening. The government has launched a drive to identify and arrest them. ( I hope ‘greyzone’ has enough pull to continue; he is -nominally- pro-Russian, but seems to give hard facts). From Institute for the Study of War Ukraine report, October 12 Russian milbloggers claimed that Commander of the 58th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District (SMD), Mikhail Zusko, ordered the immediate deployment without any pre-combat training of newly mobilized servicemen of the 15th Regiment of the 27th Motor Rifle Brigade from Moscow City and Moscow Oblast to the collapsing frontline around Svatove around October 2nd and 3rd. Ukrainian outlets have reported that the Kremlin has arrested Zusko due to combat losses. Milbloggers noted that relatives found half of the 15th Regiment personnel wounded in a Belgorod Oblast hospital after the unit got caught in heavy artillery fire when attempting to reach the Svatove frontline. Milbloggers noted that the regiment had no orders, military command supervision, signal, or supplies, and that the other half of its personnel is still at the Svatove frontline. Another milblogger noted witnessing the coffins of mobilized men arrive in Chelaybinsk, Moscow, and Yekaterenburg, and claimed that many mobilized men are surrendering to Ukrainian forces. One Russian milblogger complained on October 13 that newly mobilized men are being deployed in a haphazard way that will lead to 10,000 deaths and 40,000 injuries among them by February 2023. What *is* this? Even if you want to fight the Satanic Ukronazis for Mother Russia, or some ultranationalist nonsense like that, you might well blench at this. You can’t attack Russia. Nukes. Unfair. but there it is. If you could attack Russia, nato would jump in. Russia would last about two weeks. Russian winter? We have an 800,000 man Ukrainian army that just loves the winter. And other countries would bring their winter overcoats, not a problem. As it is, Putin has been warned at the highest level about nukes. His people have been making statements that seem to show they understand. But every country reserves the right to nuke if it is itself invaded. Care is needed here.

This is exactly why Putin started this war. He thought it was 'heads I win, tails you lose'. The best that could happen - he would conquer Ukraine. The worst that could happen would be Russia would retreat to its own borders. Since Ukraine doesn't have offensive capability (or is banned from attacking Russia by the West) then they are fighting basically to maintain the status quo pre-Feb. 24.
