My six year old been asking Santa for a banjo for years but holding one today I realized it'll be to heavy for him so we're starting with a banjolele for Christmas so I'll be subscribing to your channel I like how to take you're time to explain and your accent makes me trust you know what you're talking about 👌👌

You could also try an open backed banjo as they are waaaay lighter than the resonators.

What a wonderful tutorial, thanks so much. My Kmise (cheapo) banjolele arrives tomorrow and I'll be coming back here to try your chords out myself.

Very good and you could also say that with that tuning G-C-E G that it is the C string that determines what Chord you get at each fret. The green at the 5th fret is an F and at the seventh fret you have a G Chord. But you also have Bar chords all the way up the fret board. Not just the two you are using. plus it wont hurt to tell what chord is on those colors you have chosen. regard Brian

Yes you are right, there is many more things to add and teach about this but I was wanting to keep it as simple as possible for non musical people. The idea is for anyone, regardless if you have a disability, or lying in a hospital bed, could play music. So I tried to keep it as simple as possible.

Glad I found this - I am keen to play after taking a long break - I have to start from scratch again and this time I want some fun with it. This seems like a great approach.

Lookin’ to get a Banjolele this Christmas. This looks an ideal tuning to work on mastering those different banjo style strokes 😎👍

@@highhopesmusic standard tuning on the Banjolele has been fine, it’s got me picking some simple American folk like Turkey in the straw, Clementine, The minstrel boy etc with some other modern surprises that really suit the Banjolele (all the Mike Nesmith stuff from the Monkees - because it tends to be ‘ragtime’ based), People are strange by the doors! Daydream by the Lovin’ spoonful, Johnny Cash version of Hurt. Thanks for giving’ me a poke in the ribs to have another look at Open C, now I’ve got something to play it on 🪕😎👍‼️

Do a video on the purpse playing with an open back and how does that make the sound different. Also how and when should you use the key to adjist the neck on the open back . Thanks connie
@highhopesmusic7 ай бұрын
The open back lets the sound out more and makes it lighter to hold. I'm sorry but I don't know a lot about them. The neck adjustment rod is used to adjust the height of the strings.

I love your lessons on the Uke and Banjoukele. I also have a Baritone Uke will the same makings work on it too?
@highhopesmusic Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it tunes the same way. If you can tune it to open C chord then yes it will work. I have finally added several songs to play along with at www.happyjams.net. Enjoy!

can do the same,,,,for a d tuning etc,,,,,

Yes you can but I tried D tuning and it was harder to keep in tune because the swings were stretched so tight.
@jayroland94819 ай бұрын
My banjolele just arrived and for the life of me I can't follow your tuning instructions. My tuner has 2 UK settings, UK C and UK D and I can't get the letter G to appear on the LCD though it does sometimes go green.
@highhopesmusic9 ай бұрын
I'm sorry you are having trouble tuning. I have an app on my phone TE Tuner (Tonal Energy Tuner) that I really like. It was $5 but it shows all the notes and may help you with the G note. Sometimes the tuners have a hard time reading a note but I find that this tuner helps. Let me know if that is helpful.

Wonder if the strings can handle open G tuning?
@highhopesmusic6 ай бұрын
I'm not sure. I tried to tune it to open D and the strings where so tight I felt it put to much pressure on the instrument so I brought it back to C. The bigger ones might be able to tune to differently.

Very interesting, but why no normaly chords? And why not g c e a tuning? I dont understand 🤷

We tune to open C chord just to make it really easy for anyone to play along. This program is tailored to folks in hospital beads that would like to just learn something easy.
