When the ball il loose does the lower part rotate on the bottom plate (the one with the 3/8 threads)? That's needed to place the camera in portrait mode exactly where you want, over one leg of the tripod, to prevent the whole tripod to fall.

I would buy a slightly bigger version of this which could support full frame camera's. Looks like could be a bit small for a bigger camera but I could be wrong.
