Thank you Phil for having Uli on the show..I have been a Scorpion fan since 1977 and loved all of Ulrich’s projects thru time…I so much love how relaxed and relatable Uli is to all your questions…Look forward to seeing Uli onstage soon..Stay strong

I saw and met Uli at a concert in Edinburgh Usher Hall on Saturday 23rd November, 2002. Very nice man. Also on the bill that night was Jack Bruce and band, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Michael Schenker and Glenn Hughes with a band. Quite a line up for the grand sum of £22! All of the above signed albums of which I still have to this day.

I saw Uli in a small place in Holland during the promotion of Under A Dark Sky. There were only a handful of people there, but still he delivered a great gig. I even got the chance to do ask for some requests.

Phil is one of the best channel hosts and interviewers on KZbin. I always enjoy his commentary and insights, as he’s very well-informed and personable. It’s always great to hear from Uli, too, an endlessly fascinating artist, who’s always pushing forward.

O.K. Phil...after your eclectic mix of guitar bits you got my guy. Uli and Michael and another, Frank Marino. Uli is super special. His Scorpions era, Electric Sun his Hendrix tribute. And his classical period plus his returning to the road starting with the 2001 Live3e show with UFO and Jack Bruce. My last show, (I'm disabled now) was Uli opening for Michael Schenker in 2004. I do wish he'd put together some of his throw aways or incompletes, whatever and release some more studio stuff. I caught him twice in 85 and 2004 which were two of the best for different reasons. Glad he's still going.

Great interview Phil. Love Uli, he's in my top three favourite guitarists. I have been lucky enough to see him live many times and he's always brilliant. Beyond the astral skies is an absolute masterpiece but love all of his stuff with Scorpions/Electric Sun and solo. Can't wait to see Uli again in November.

Thanks for the well-rounded interview, Phil. It is a privilege to hear Uli speaking about his music. He is eloquent, engaging and truly an innovator. His music is one of a kind, impossible to tire of such virtuosity and musicality. Looking forward to the tour!

I tell you guys, if Klaus Meine would have sung on Uli's first solo album "Earthquake" it would be considered today as an absolute Rock masterpiece.

I saw Uli Jon Roth back in 2015 in Balve Hohle (a big cave!) in Germany where he did a "Scorpions Revisited" set - and it was amazing. The German Kultrock Festival is an annual event done for charity and organised by Peter Panka's Jane (who were originally just known as Jane) and are a favourite band of mine - they play the gig every year, though not always as the headliners.

@@jogischulz2576 I am sure I saw your band list a couple of days ago but I went back to look for it and could not see it. Do you want to put it here again, so I can take a look? I am always interested in good German bands that I have not heard before.

@@jogischulz2576 I don't get into any new bands really, I tend to lose interest in them very quickly - I used to buy a CD because I heard a great track as a single from it, discover the rest of the album wasn't as good as the track I heard and then forget about it. Keep rocking!

Before the release of Under A Dark Sky I read somewhere that Ian Gillan would sing one or two songs, but in the end it was Marc Storace. Any idea why?

Can I do a quick shout out in memory of Zeno Roth, Uli's brother who passed away in 2018 and was also an extremely good guitarist? I'd recommend the first Zeno album as a great starting point for the 5 albums he made with his band.

@scarabus344 - It wasn’t Marc Storace, it was Mark Boals. I believe Uli wanted a singer who would also be able to do the tour, but I can’t speak for him. Personally, I’ll take Mark Boals over Ian Gillan 24/7/365 unless it’s Leap Year (or 1972).

If Uli met Mike Oldfield there would have been some problems. Big problems. While they are both producers, Mike came to the conclusion, (To the chagrin of others) that the feel was there in a few takes and take that and then finish it. Simon Phillips who played with Uli would say I want another take. No. But it was captured, the essence and then, then. TWEEK. Uli is a perfectionist so it keeps him, as he said from having more releases. Uli said I have more unreleased than what is out there. Well....
