ULSTER v LEINSTER & THE TYSON FURY THEORY

It was another intriguing round of United Rugby Championship games over the weekend and one of the games that caught my eye was the battle in Belfast between Ulster and Leinster.
After the team selection for Leinster a few questions came up in my mind about this one. It was great to see Hugo Keenan back and James Ryan for Leinster but have they fallen into the Tyson Fury trap?
In this episode of Inside Rugby I review the game and ask that question.

Toulouse have done the same thing with resting their key guys this week although they did get a win against Montpelier who are second from last in the French Top 14. In fact Toulouse probably rotated more heavily than Leinster and I'm not sure many of those players will get a spot in the Champion's Cup next Saturday. It is a little bit different from previous years with Leinster when the Champions Cup team didn't play any league games in the run up to the final. All the members of the team have played in the last two weeks. The majority of the first team played against Ospreys two weeks ago in the URC and some others returning from injury and lacking game time were given a full game against Ulster. In effect they really only have had a week off. It is also important to realise the Leinster first team have clocked up a lot of hours in the National side coming off the World Cup and Six Nations, so their game time has to be managed carefully. Congratulations to Ulster they have gone through some choppy waters recently and its good that they seem to be getting their confidence back. I am a Leinster fan but I support all the Irish teams after them. Three of the four Irish provinces have made the knockouts and will be in the Champions Cup next year, so that's something to be happy about. I think you are right Mark about the new defensive system taking time to bed into a squad. the first team are certainly further ahead with implementing it than the 2nd team and more peripheral players but hopefully that will come in time.

Absolute bullshit ! First team will have played 1 game in 6 weeks! Against ospreys 😂 of course they are fighting fit ! There will be 20 or 30 minutes in them then they will be finished! Another season without a trophy

@@michaelflynn5123 Do you have crap for brains? In the last 6 weeks the first team have played La Rochelle 13th April, Northampton Saints 4th May and Ospreys 11th May. Some of the first 23 have also played against Ulster :James Ryan, Hugo Keenan, Jack Conan and Will Connors. Also bear in mind that the majority of the first team have just come off a Six Nations campaign which only finished in mid March. There is probably as much of a risk of them been leggy rather than lacking match fitness. At least make sure of your facts before putting it out there.

Mark, you're obviously correct that this was one of Ulster's best games of the season, but personally I'd put the win against Leinster at the RDS ahead of this one. An almost identical scoreline, and another Cooney penalty was the difference. But that one gets my vote because it was in Dublin, where not many teams come away with anything.

Its nice to see other nations see some of the quality we have at ulster since we have so few in irish squads atm. Hopefully with players back in form we can up those numbers nut always have to compete with leinster players having cohesion being favoured for irish camp

Apologies Michael I ran out of time this week, BUT wow, what a performance by the Lions in the second half in particular, and down players throughout the game as well. The Lions are a very good team and with this momentum will remain dangerous.

They did, so it all comes down to whether or not it worked. Maybe one team fires better than the other after resting of said players. Thank you for the comment

Ironically, Fury's whole family come from the border between Leinster & Ulster. His father tried to say Tyson was born in Newry to get his irish passport, but the republics government rejected the claim, so Tyson fought for the UK. Obviously, as travellers, they were all over, but Newry was their original. Leinster took a gamble & it backfired. I think Leinster lost a little with Lancaster's departure. Neinerber is a great coach, but so was Felix Jones. Murphy is very good gelling teams. That is what he did with the irish u20's to great success, albeit no World Cup. The futures bright for all provences, bar Connacht. The irfu have work to do. Jaques real test comes Saturday.

Excellent Analysis Mark Looks like Leinster are after making a big mistake both on and off the field Though not mentioned in ur clip Leinster were awarded a very kickable penalty when still 1 point ahead near the end and UNBELIEVABLY went to the corner AND came away with no points Cooneys excellent last minute kick would not have been decisive had Leinster been 4 points ahead. AND yes they at least should have 4 or 5 of their rested elite players on the bench to finish off Ulster and get a necessary pipe opener for 20 - 30 minutes b4 tackling Toulouse As it stands now in URC they are likely looking at a semi-final vs the Bulls ....in SA OUCH!

James ryan back from injury & was busy ..will he start next Saturday

I don't think Toulouse have started Ramos Nytmack and Du Pont at the same time once this season. So id be more inclined to argue they are more susceptible to your Fury theory

@Rugby-xp1wh I hear you on this one, they started together against Harlequins and in another game Dupont came on as a sub to play with him, but my so called theory goes beyond 9&10, the overall amount of players in key rolls being relied on to pull off the one big game on the day has to be some kind of risk.
