You get that too? Every now and then I log in and revisit the world. I have a Runebook that still has my old friends house locations, and a couple of my old house locations as well. When I go there, all I see is either vacant space or an unfamiliar house built there, a house I have nothing in common with. When I revisited a couple dungeons, they were not the same. I almost feel a sting when visiting these changes. Youth, where have you gone?

I played UO like crazy when i was young. Getting my first GM, exploring the world, experiencing Britannia when the Housing patch went live and there was no free space anymore lol, slaying dragons in destard, doing champ runs while getting fked by the Apple Infantry on Europe. It was awesome. My mum bought me 100hrs of Online time a month from my Internet Provider since there was no flatrate. I remember i spent 290hrs a month with UO which meant my mum had to pay alot extra lol. Today i am a single dad for 11 years. Ultima Online will always be one of the best time in my life and i dont regret playing it like a madmen and rejecting girls in school for that, not going to party etc. If only u could relive those times but even if i would play UO today, it would never be the same again.

Here's my two cents. I played for 8 years straight after it's initial release. And the nostalgia has continued to bring me back over and over through the subsequent years, and the lack of improvement has made me quit again each time. I know it's a big ask, but improving the netcode and exposing some API would be huge. There's no reason for rubberbanding in 2020 and fostering a mod community through exposed API would give UO a new lease on life. Custom UI, UX, texture packs, shaders, map updates... All community driven, effectively for free, with just a little backend work. I really hope they do something to revitalize UO. I miss playing it.

Why can't developers just re-make this game, use the same skills, spells, etc but pump some serious money and basically re-make the game for the new ages. I don't mind the old version of course, but Ultima Online is still very underrated, and honestly probably the best Sandbox MMO's on the market, I don't think EA realizes how good this game could truely be if they can keep the core of the game but give it a major face lift and moderization

Top things I did in old UO. 1 trap box with DP and put it down in Britain and watching the people open it die. It reset another grab it and on and on and on. Until 1 day the game company decides that I am responsible for all the deaths, and my char goes from GL to DL in 2.3 seconds. "THY WILL DYE FOR THINE ACTIONS SWINE!". 2 Making, Bob the Minter, My thief in Britain and rob people. People would be hella confused a bank guy robbed them. 3 Before they patched AOE damage from opening a trapped chest. Running into the crossroads yell "ALLLAAAA" and open the box and kill everyone around. 4 Got UOextreme ( not assist) and set up a macro to throw the 100 explosion potions at my feet in front of pkers. While they are trying to pk me and when I die they try and loot me and all the potions go off and splat, 5 getting banned on 1 account for using UO Extreme and then going to a invisible GM then robbing him. Took the GM a few hours to figure something was wrong. 6 Living through a $%^&*()& patch. Going to The outskirts of Britain meeting my guildie, Go to the moon gate take 12 try's to get to Yew. Go to Shame. The server goes down. 1 hour later Server back up. Meet the same guildie in Britain again go to Yew to Shame then crash again. Down another hour. Server back up gather go to Yew and Server goes down. Once again about a hour we meet up again make to Shame freeze up. We can talk the mobs move around us, but we can not move or use skills or magic. Server goes down. Come back up. We meet in Britain we head to the Moon gate and promptly get PKed Lose everything. Guess what! The MOFO POS %^&*(_) server does not crash. This was when the NPC bought nothing. Gear you had to work hard to get. SOOO this was the day I learned the GM's in MMORPGS don't give a shyt you lost your stuff. To them it is part of game play. =(((((((( I got more but this is droning on. I maybe back to post more.

Because people think MMORPG means "games for sweaty nerds like Warcraft with sexy elves" or some stupid shit when Ultima Online was where it all started. Yeah, it was super nerdy having to memorize that "Oh, if you want to be a melee character, it'd be wise to invest time and a shit-ton of cloth into bandages so you can heal yourself and keep yourself alive because oh yeah, shit can kill you" or going for some outrageous builds like the Sampire which I still, to this day love. Or that "Well, if you're gonna be an archer on our team, can you at least train your Animal Taming or at least side in some Bard skills so these mobs don't steamroll our faces?" And the fact it didn't shy away from the subtlety and nuance of actual character skills. Raise your Intelligence and you can use abilities more often and have better offensive/defensive options, Raise your Dexterity and "Oh wow, suddenly I'm swinging my weapon a lot more often than before." Wow, high strength, I deal more damage and can take at least one fireball to the face! Good times, especially once Age of Shadows came out and introduced the tooltips, the Chivalry and Necromancer skills. Oh, and the Karma system. Because nuance is for neeerrrrds!

Technically Meridian59 was the first, though it was more heavily text based, but the rules were largely the same because M59 was the first major MUD and UO was the first more mainstream MUD. Everquest was the first True MMORPG that established how MMO's would go from that point forward, but it was based off the general principles established first in M59 and solidified in UO.

It was the best 15 years ever! Nothing affected me more.. I still remember the keybinds for almost everything :) I think I would be ready for fight right away. The most fun, the most nerves .. No game can even compare to UO in terms of emotions. Timeless, perfect, very difficult - but fair! Todays mmorpg are just a joke - PVP in zones only, dozens of stupid rules, no dead players loot (are you fkicng serious?!) .... I will never forget how I was killed by the pk's in safe zone (yeah, I am still pissed :p) I was AFK, seemingly perfectly safe, at least I thought so. They - were incognito, snuck up on me, risking everything - killed me terribly, stole all my equip (even blood bandages) and of course, killed my loyal horse too. I lost more than most players ever had in that day :). But the fact that it can be done .. gaming mechanics are truly ingenious and still unsurpassed.. Good comment. I remember the good old days. Your comment made me remember specifically when myself and 2 buddies robbed a player in town lol. So a rich guy was posted at Moonglow bank and was afk. I killed him with an explosion, a flamestrike and 1 deadly poison dagger hit lol. My other buddy looted because I was dead of course, He passed the loot off to another buddy and we got away with everything lol. U7 remains mindblowing, even today. Both UW are great even if I clearly prefer the first one and I still need to be concentrate with the actions buttons^^ Pagan has it’s own beauty (soundtrack...) but is nearly unplayable. UO is my favorite game of all time. I played from 98-2002. This is just a big missed opportunity, unfortunately. I know it would have been expensive/risky, but you needed to go all in on a new engine and graphics while maintaining all of the original gameplay. I think it's the right time, but relaunching with this old engine is just going to be a waste of time and money. Cheap cost of entry on a new engine, $20 on Steam, no subscription with a massive cosmetic store for a steady stream of income. It could be done and I think it could be a major success.

The creator (Lord British/Richard Garriott) wanted to, but they ousted him. Now he can't use the IPs he created because they keep doing things like this instead of giving him rights (it's dead, Jim, give it up). So he made a new game with similar systems, Shroud of the Avatar. Haven't tried it yet.

Free to play means free to try out... no reason to hate on something I haven't tried yet. I played UO from 1997 to around 2005ish and tried to get back into it a couple of years ago. My personal opinion is that so long as it has a pre Age of Shadows ruleset (skills, attributes, gear) the entire season concept doesn't bother me that much. Seriously, I could handle Trammel -- I get it, not everyone wants to PvP... but AoS wrecked that game. It'd be even better if they forced dismounted combat.

I haven't touched UO in almost 15 years. Would give this a chance, except for one huge problem. Customer service. After playing from 1998-2005 or whenever the hell the expansion with the elves came in, I can say this. Ultima Online had the absolute WORST customer service of any game I have ever played and its not even close. "I cannot help thee with that" was the canned response for any problem. The other problem is I am now 40 and not 20. I dunno if I could tolerate a lot of the mechanics or archaic interface anymore. If this was more like a T2A experience I'd give it a go but sadly I am sure it will be more like Renaissance the later half of which I absolutely loathed thanks to what they did to mages by introducing shit like blessed faction vanquishing weapons and lumberjack axers.

If it is not the initial specification, I will not do it. I don't know about management. What is the appeal of modern PvP where you don't have to worry about dying? The weak have no choice but to group together with their friends. That's fine... If we go back, it's to the early irrational games. Everyone is scared and can't go out with only HQ weapons. That's UO. Red name enters the dungeon while trembling. Regret, anger, camaraderie, motivation Updates take everything away. Abolition of the insurance system, early PvP system basic race only Don't make the game user-friendly.

Game died when they introduced the loot item system with AoS. The entire gameplay changed from being crafter-centric to spending hours camping the same mobs and scanning thousands of loot items, each with 8 different stats to find a handful that were upgrades. While I loved UO, this video is just stupid... so what is the point of this.. a temporary server, so now you take away housing as a draw, one of the few things that made the game still worthwhile.
