Prime Autotainment I’ve owned Acura and Honda’s for 28 years, though we’re selling our last Honda...it happens to be a Pilot. Both brands have lost their luster on a number of levels. Honda has fallen behind Toyota, KIA, Hyundai, and virtually every other brand by not offering surround/Birdeye view, a regular (not push button shifter). Don’t want a kick power gate, proximity works much better. Far too much hard plastic compared to other brands. The KIA Sorento and new 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe both have soft touch throughout the front cabin.
@thekaysers33016 жыл бұрын
Steve Wise I think the biggest issue with Honda is that they’re not as bullet proof anymore.. I’ve heard Honda issues with their newer models that you would expect with a Nissan Murano.. but not Honda. Subaru is also on that same train it seems. Reliability has gone down compared to previous generations, even if they are still considered reliable. This is not in my personal experience just speaking to owners. It’s nice that Toyota and Hyundai brought new life into their Midsize SUVs. Maybe a safer choice than anything else right now. I chose to go bargain hunting with leasing.. best choice for me right now. Owning a car that isn’t a Toyota is getting a bit risky with today’s technology.
@stevewise16566 жыл бұрын
Verns The Man you’re right. I believe their most unreliable car is the CRV and when buyers want mid-sized SUV’s, a company can’t blow it like this...This year CRV sales are down 17 percent. I knew when they came out with that 1.5 turbo it would be trouble. Honda hadn’t sold turbos until the 2017 CRV.

I totally agree with you. The Pilot definitely has a minivan-ish design... Especially when placed next to many of its competitors which tend to boast more truck-like appearances. Nevertheless, at least this body styling translates to a fairly spacious cabin for its class. Once again, keep up the great work!

Thank you for the quick review of the Honda Pilot 2019 model. I don't think there are any full reviews of this mid cycle refresh yet. Your review is very comprehensive. Something I would like to see a bit more of (being a techie) is more of the user interface and function from the 7 inch centre dash screen (ie. What does the dash navigation look like). AND if you were using Android auto or Apple Car Play, can some of that function translate to the dash screen? The other component I'd be interested on is how the audio sounds. I know that's subjective but since you get to try out so many vehicles in the same range, its nice to hear what your feedback is. I'm also looking at a midsize SUV.
@PrimeAutotainment6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I apologize I didn’t cover the screen very much. When you use Carplay and Android Auto there are certain apps that it will allow you to use and they look clear and easy to use just on your phone. For the music...I’ve tried playing music in different vehicles using different microphones and it just never sounded good enough for me to use. It doesn’t do each system justice. But for the Pilot...it sounds good, but not as good as some others like the abuse system in Mazda CX-9 / Chevy Traverse or JBL system in Toyota. It’s not quite as “full or rich” but still sounds pretty good for a stock stereo. Thank you for the input! My pal Bernie has a review of one here and he does cover more in the touchscreen starting at 8:43 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmKYdHyYg76DiLs Also the guys at Car Confections cover more as well (including Garmin navigation) starting at 12:21 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqmok5eLmcuMqac

Great review man. You’re putting out videos as fast as the big guys! It’s a solid choice without a doubt. I’m a little bit biased though, because I have a serious distaste for the rear taillights that Honda uses for the new accord, and this pilot. That incandescent bulb and unattractive LED portion design killed me. I ended up going for the new Tiguan due to an amazingly equipped base model (full LED rear and LED running lights up front, amazing motor as standard) All in all it’s all up to the individuals taste. Pretty much every car in this segment is solid, even the pre-refresh Hyundai Santa Fe with its ancient interior. You can’t go wrong, it’s about budget and taste.
@PrimeAutotainment6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It keeps me busy lol. I feel ya with Honda’s taillights, I’m not a fan of any of them either. I hope you enjoy your Tiguan! I’ve only been in one at an auto show and would love to drive one sometime. Thanks for the input and for watching!

Thank you very much! I’m not 100% sure but I believe the silver panel is removed (or a certain part of it held by fasteners) on last years pilot there was a small part of the bumper that cane off, then the actual hitch receiver hardware came with a replacement piece that had a square hole in it. That was it still looks original and cohesive

OPINION...Would you buy this or the Hyundai Palisade or the Ford Explorer. I would be looking at upper mid level trims such as an upper trim XLT Ford Explorer
@PrimeAutotainment4 жыл бұрын
MattChat56 good question. I’ve been able to spend extended time in the Palisade and Explorer and only limited time in the Pilot. With that being said I’d go for the Palisade. The SEL is a good mid level trim that you can pick and choose some optional features and overall considering the space, features, ergonomics etc..I think it’s the best bang for buck. I would do the Pilot 2nd and Explorer 3rd. I like all of them...but the Explorer had some fit and finish issues which makes me nervous about other things that aren’t visible and the transmission was jerky sometimes. The Pilot is pretty tried and true though with great space and features too. But for every dollar on the table I’d go Palisade right now

Thanks for mentioning the 9-speed issue! How about reviewing the Honda Ridgeline? I also want your opinion which you like better, 6 vs 9 speed? Which feels better?
@PrimeAutotainment6 жыл бұрын
No problem! To answer your other post, there’s not actually a front camera, just the rear parking camera so sadly you can’t use it to help with hills. Some other vehicles offer the surround view but this doesn’t. I have a 2018 Ridgeline walkaround, but didn’t drive it. I will hopefully be reviewing a 2019 model sometime early in 2019. I would honestly want to 6 speed. Before this refresh, there were some known issues with the 9 speed. They said they made changes to it so only time will tell, but I’d rather be safe with the 6 speed. So the options for a 6 speed tranny are LX, EX, and EX-L.

Very spacious! I was recently in a Toyota Highlander and Mazda CX-9 and space doesn’t compare in those!

The front bumper brought back from 10 years back crv... looks so dull... I want to buy this family suv but 2 things are stoping me.. Old style front bumper and half half moon roof...
@PrimeAutotainment6 жыл бұрын
Do you like the pre-refresh 2018 model better? I hear ya on the moonroof..that’s kinda weird
@desmondsannicolas61196 жыл бұрын
It just looks like a fat CR-V... my fave body style is is like 3 or 4 generations ago. Lol

I hear ya! I agree with you...I prefer the older gens styling as well

I agree! I can't stand the way the rear looks.

I like the boxy look as well, but I think I’m buying the 2019 pilot. It’s the best bang for the buck compared to its competitors. I test drove it last week and was pretty impressed.

Thats an SUV. Not crossover bro...
@PrimeAutotainment6 жыл бұрын
Technically a crossover is built with unibody construction versus an SUV using a ladder (truck) frame. The Pilot is on the same platform as the Odyssey too. I would usually call it an SUV though... just like most other “Crossovers”

Kinda looks like the 17 crv front end. And don’t recommend that honda dealership. I had bad experience there. Oh well.
@PrimeAutotainment6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it definitely does. The new 2019 HR-V kinda got that same look now. Dang sorry about your experience!

This car is atrocious. It looks like a minivan. The front is way to busy and the back is very ugly. Just my opinion
@baddfagg6 жыл бұрын
That front end has a lot going on. A lot, lol. I'd have to cross shop it against the Atlas.
@PrimeAutotainment6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it does lol. Good idea..I know the Atlas has a lot going for it as well!
@Truebluedru4196 жыл бұрын
I chose the Pilot over the Atlas and I’m very happy with my decision. The Atlas looks better (though I still like the studying if the Pilot). However, the Atlas lacks in tech and entertainment features which are awesome in the Pilot. Apple CarPlay and the Rear Entertainment System are just a couple things missing on the Atlas.
