this ranking is super interesting, and i really enjoy seeing how different machines compare, i’ve used prusa machines before,they’re incredibly reliable, and the print quality is always solid,creality, on the other hand, has been great for tweaking and customizing, which i really enjoy, that said, i’m really excited about the flsun s1 pro, the specs look amazing, and i’d love to see you test it in the future, if it performs well, do you think it could move up in the rankings? looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

companies need to stop sending early units to influencers, send them to friendly testers who sign NDA. Most of these early problems would get resolved before a single review or public tester has had a chance to touch them. Prime example, the Plus4 was considered one of the printers of the year by early reviews and then it all went down hill from there. Qidi could have saved a lot of face that way, i think its why Creality had pushed the K2 Plus embargo a few times...really would make you consider the review you sat on to release when they have already fixed the things you were going to complain about lol.

@@NathanBuildsRobots Agreed but the Bambu AMS has still been incredible in a high-volume production environment where I can have multiple of the same spools loaded up and allow the system to auto swap when the filament runs out. In this use case the AMS actually reduces waste. When I get my K2 to replace the Bambu I will be doing massive work on my SV08 to turn it into a multihead system with a two-color AMS per head for auto runout swaps. The open source AMS/MMU project is called Enraged Rabbit Community Project (ERCF)

@@jmelchiori85 At 1/2 grams wasted per filament change you will need to do over 195 thousand filament changes to break even on a Prusa XLx5. In other words, you will need to waste 97.8 spools of filament. But at those poop rates it actually becomes economically viable to buy a T-Shirt Heat Press for printing designs onto them for 100usd and use that to recycle the poop into sheets of plastic. Bottom line Prusa as always is overrated but still loved for past deeds.
@Liberty4Ever
@Liberty4Ever Ай бұрын
@@jmelchiori85 - Maybe the question is how many purges will it take to break even on a FlashForge AD5X versus the K2 Plus. It's likely the AD5X will cost hundreds of dollars less than a K2 Plus so there is a negative break even point. In all fairness, the AD5X doesn't have a heated enclosure and a 350 mm cubed build volume, but it does feed TPU in its 4 filament feeder, and that's HUGE for me. I'll probably live with the smaller build volume and I'll cobble my own heated chamber, and I'll still have enough left over to buy an SV08 or Neptune 4 Max. I wish Elegoo made Pro versions of the larger Neptune printers with all steel motion control systems. My Neptune 4 Pro is a real workhorse.

I mean life isn't fair, what matters is the cost to the end consumer and what you get for that cost. It isn't our fault that their printers are so much slower than their competitors, their MMU barely works yet the printers cost twice as much. Also it's not like they're stuck between a rock and a hard place, nobody forces them to release another bedslinger, they just have to innovate so the printers are worth the cost to the consumer. XL is great when it works, so hopefully that shows them the way forward.

Honestly, none of the brands apart from Prusa and Bambu should be in A or S tier. Reason: customer support! Creality might now have a couple of decent printers (K2 plus, K1C, Ender 3 v3), but these use pretty specific proprietary parts, which makes me more concerned about Creality's track record of having no long term support. This is the company that cannot even make clear what their official Internet store would be, having numerous self-proclaimed "official" Creality stores., which Creality seems to tolerate. That just does not give confidence that in 2 years you'll still find parts for all the variants of nozzles they introduced lately. If you get your printer for free and replace it with another free one after a few months, customer support might not be on your mind, but after years of affordable (sorry prusa) 3d printers basically being stuff you had to fully maintain on your own without support, Bambu (affordable since the P1) has been such an improvement that any brand not offering the same level of documentation and part availability just isn't on the same tier in my book!

I haven't seen many of these companies support printer firmware for more than a year. Bambulab and Prusa has at least updated their firmware for more than a year. Prusa is even nice we they have update/grade paths so you can get the most out of your printer. I understand some of the upgrade paths is cheaper to sell the old and purchase a new one, however they held their resell value pretty well, mini. It included.

That was helpful. I started with an Ender 3 V2. It was a learning experience, but definitely not a "just works" kind of machine. I upgraded to an Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro a bit over a year ago. Some early firmware related issues, but running reliably now. I find your placement of the Neptune 4 Plus and Max above the 4 to be curious as those seem to have have had more problems than the 4 and 4Pro, judging from the FB group for this series. Maybe they have those issues resolved now. Might eventually get a core XY with a large bed, but not in any rush. Multi material would be nice, but the time and wastage are a big negative.

No QIDI Q1 pro? $400 and core XY. You can’t really make carbon fiber prints with a 350C nozzle and 245mm^3 build volume and 65°C heated chamber for any cheaper. It's a solid machine for some engineering materials but let's be real, you can print a lot with a ~300C nozzle and a ~100C bed. Hell, I went through many, many rolls of CF-ASA/ABS just using a modified Ender 3 Pro and a DIY enclosure. The heated chamber is certainly great to see at this price and I've spotted some deals on their larger models that are especially interesting.

I really like the idea of the sound levels and filtered odor of the M5 Pro, the out of the box ease of use and print quality of the Bamboo stuff and the multi-color head design that does not waste a lot of material and the build volume and price of the Neptune 4 Max. Looks like I will keep looking for bit. Your review of the K2 Plus seems like it gets really close but at this point I cannot justify the expense as something to just occasionally mess around with. Like most things manufactured them seem to get better and less expensive as time goes on. I just might have to make some big compromises in what features I want or the amount I am willing to spend. When Nathan mentioned Qidi making disposable printers they support for a year or two and then no more access to proprietary parts, I thought, "Preach it, brother." I bought five Qidi FDM printers for a print farm based on perceived value - many high end features at a low cost. The reliability was very bad, the designs were difficult to service, and the proprietary parts were difficult to source for a year and then impossible. $3000 in printers and repair parts went into a landfill without ever making any commercial products. Then like an idiot, I fell for it again with a couple of Qidi resin printers. Sovol and Elegoo have been a *much* better value proposition. I'm not a fan boy for any 3D printer company, but I do have one rule. No more Qidi.

The "best" would be a Lerdge iX, Voron 0 or even a Rat Rig V-Chonk. There simply cannot be a "better" (!) printer for you than the one you built by yourself, know the functions and simply know how to service it with any problems that might could occur. That is one big downside of any prebuild: you don't know anything about it and when there is a problem (which it's going to happen) it's getting frustrating. If you want "the best" there is no other option than DIY. The Lerdge is by far the cheapest one, starting at 160 bucks. But you can spec that thing up to a 300 bucks "A1 Mini like" machine. The Voron 0 is the most advanced one with many options (tool heads). Maybe even too much for a beginner to choose.

While I agree many Voron parts are over engineered and suggest some unnecessarily expensive components, I don't think implying they're 'rickety' or unstable is entirely fair. A well-built Voron is damn reliable and can produce truly beautiful prints comparable to much more expensive machines. I'm sure you know why ABS is used and awhile back I even built a Voron within tolerance using just a modified Ender 3 Pro so I'm not sure why that's a negative. I can respect why you left Bambu out but I think it's a mistake to not even mention them (aside from engagement) while still including them on there. A lot of people don't know the details about why they're criticized. IMO that's how to push back, not simply ignoring them.

@@monnom6574 - I hope Qidi has fixed their earlier issues with reliability and maintainability. I bought a total of seven Qidi printers and regret every one. I'm done with Qidi, no matter how many features they offer at how few dollars. The false value is what suckered me into buying their printers and spending more time working on them than printing, and being forced to throw them away a year later when they came out with a new proprietary design and stopped supporting my printers.

You gotta get a RatRig V-Core 4 to test and review, preferably a big hybrid (extra X & Y motors) IDEX one! They look sweet, physically and also software-wise with their own customized Klipper called RatOS with some advanced features like using a camera for IDEX calibration. And! They have the most important feature a printer can have - INTERNAL spool holder! BTW. those Shareasale links never work for me - are they US only or is my anti-tracking & ad-blocking protection just too jumpy? It's not just your links either, it's all of them.

Disappointed by the fact that you did not lay down any context, as in you didn't even explain what the S tier means or for that matter what any of the other tiers represent, as in is a tier "C" still good value for money or a "walk-away from" tier? What were the specific criteria that you took into consideration and did you give these any weighting, as in for instance "good customer care" carried X weight and "value for money" carried Y weight, and so on? A matrix to this effect would have been nice, but I suppose also probably unrealistic to expect, given that as you said, you were sponsored by many of the manufacturers there..

I have no problems with the constant jokes on Bambu. People have been mindlessly praising them for years now - kind of like you are doing with the K2. But on a tier list which should allow people to make a good choice when they are buying their next - or even first - printer, that is just not taking the task seriously - and that is more annoying than it is fun. Usually they only choose what they have affiliate links for and the rest is personal experience and preference. Whereby the personal experience is mostly limited to a few test prints for the review video. Only rarely are there really long-term experiences because the printers gather dust somewhere after the video or they give them away. One of the transparency problems is that nobody knows how much content creators earn through affiliate programmes and how much the individual manufacturers pay.
