People at work thought that I was taking home a dead plant. Now I got it back to life and its blooming light pink with hot pink its different from the average you find in most stores

I just rescue purchased 2 at a pharmacy this week. They were dried out. I noted one had aerial roots so I had to get them. I soaked them for 15 mins in water and by next am they were back including flowers. So pretty. I've had Phals for a few years and before Valentine's Day bought 1 in bloom and 1 with buds only. My original got knocked over too many times by my cat and died. The last rescue plant has not had flower spike in 2 yrs but is huge. I'm working on improving conditions. I'm so glad I found this video and will try to make these happy. Thank you for this very informative video.

When I was a kid living in the Philippines, my mother grew anthurium using coconut hush and charcoal only, no soil at all. They all strive very well. Then she used dried egg shells as fertilisers and water the plants from to time with rice water. I'm now living in Australia and I struggled how to grow anthurium, it's very frustrating. While back in the Phils growing anthurium is just like growing tomatoes. You throw the seeds and it grows perfectly fine.

Thanks for sharing such a great video as always Summer. Have a beautiful day! Thank you, from the bottom of my pot! 🍃🐞

Hi! You mentioned growing them in your bathroom, I’ve been considering this as I read the humidity is great for them. Does your bathroom have a window or do you just provide light for them when you turn the light on? Mine got a yellow spot on only one leaf, then the spot turned brown, with a yellow rim. Not sure if it has some sort of disease, or maybe I gave it too much water or light. I’m struggling with this plant! Lol Mine is in a terracota pot. I switched her since the moment I bought her. She was also in plastic.

@eggybread49373 жыл бұрын
My normal mix for anthurium is sphagnum moss moss mixed with ordinary potting soil. Does the job perfectly. Don't overwater, you would rather be on the underwater side. Grab the soil. The soil mix should not stick on your hands. The soil should crumble down away from hands but not feel desert dry or sticky moist. Just in between that. It should not stick on your skin. The key to anthurium is stable room temperature (no sudden fluctuations - it can acclimate a good range of temperature ) and air circulation (a window slightly open) but not dry stale air. The darker/ greener the foliage, the less sunlight it needs. The best way is to try different areas of the house. Anthuriums love it when there is air circulation. Not a blizzard. Just so it knows it with nature. Consider where you live. Ie tropical vs wintery areas. Because this will dictate how quickly the soil becomes desert dry. Water only when it becomes dry. The pointy part will go brown if left dry too long. I always leave a stick in the soil. I pull it out to determine how dry the soil way under. Even if top soil is dry and the stick feels moist still. Do not water. It is Happy underneath. Hope that helps. And one more thing. Grab a wet wipe or moist cloth. And dampen and clean those leaves and flowers. By wiping, you are letting them breathe (photosynthesis) The casual touching and movement of the plant is the BEST way of preventing any potential pest. How can pest take over if you are disturbing infestation by wiping it casually. Think about it. Be gentle with new leave unfurling tho.

Just today, purchased an A. Andraeanum ‘Black Beauty,’ ...love them. I’m one of the many ppl bitten by the aroid “bug”! Anthuriums are a bit like fancier philodendrons to me. If ever I go to the nursery, and there aren’t many philodendron, I just look around; anthurium, epipremnum, syngonium, zantedeschia, spathiphyllum, diffenbachia, aglaeonema, homalomena...! All aroids.

Maybe it will give me practice for another I’d really like to own one day. The Dorayaki. I’m assuming the care is the same??
@summerrayneoakes4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad this was helpful. I'll be doing more in-depth care guides. I think that feels right after rifling through the "365 Days of Plants" project, which just touched upon the plant care around the edges. And I wasn't familiar with the Dorayaki cultivar actually? I assumed it was a dessert. haha. (The name refers to a bean cake I think).... But the more velvet-leaf varieties grow more in the understory on the margins of the rainforests vs. as on trees as epiphytes higher up, so I would keep that in mind as far as lighting goes.

Not much progress, even it has been now like 6 months in better light. (and it's been summer where I live, now turnign to fall.) Its still the same pace. I am assuming I will need to order an Anthurium on-line since all of the Nurseries in my area are closed for the winter (8b Springfield Oregon, USA.) and we don't have any Floral Shops nearby. I worked in a Floral Shop gosh...35 yrs ago and loved it but didn't earn enough to make a living so Plan B; I became an Accountant working for City Government. Anyway, back in the 80's we used a lot of Anthuriums and Carnations; it was before young beginning certified Florists (I took Floriculture classes at a college) were allowed to do many 'An Original Design by..' arrangements. Up until then you were given a "recipe" prepared by the big floral companies and told to use specific flowers that were on the lower end of the budget, or a better priced arrangement could include more of the Tropicals. Your video sure took me back to some fond memories, Thank you : D

I have mine outside since inside they hated it, each time I tried I failed in providing enough light, even when outside in winter here is -4celsius, they live happily in semishade at my patio, squeezed with a bunch of ferns and cane begonias and the like, creating a microclimate. I have an orange Anthurium Scherzerianum and various andreanum, chocolate, lila, red with white stripes and red. All lovely. They are not native to buenos aires but they seems to adapt ok.

Greetings ! I purchased a Flamingo Flower. Upon purchase all the flowers were a bright Scarlet. When I brought her home the flowers turned a deep dark Red. I have her in front of an East window. Indirect light. I don't know what I did wrong for the flowers to turn dark. However, on a positive note. One new flower remains bright Scarlet. Humidity is good as I live in Florida. Should I take her away from the window to see what results I get ? I have her planted in soil w/ bark, Perlite & Volcanic Pumice for good drainage. Any suggestions would be helpful. Cheers ! George

Hi! I got a plant from my friend that I´m trying to save. We didn´t know what plant was it and I just discovered it´s this beauty. I want to ask if it´s bad for it to be in wind as I´m keeping it by open window. I live in Cambodia so I have open window and fan on all the time. Thank you for answer!

Mine has stopped producing flowers. I currently have it next to my kitchen sink on the counter by a SE facing window. Should I change its location? What light is best?
