You probably should have mentioned a few extra things: •Animals give different amounts of money depending on how hard they are to kill (a Black Bear can give easily $2000+ but a Jackrabbit may give only $300) •The foliage will actually physically depress as you or animals walk through them, so you can use that to follow trails or even double-back so you don't get lost •The map is much larger than initial appearance: I spent a lot of time stuck in Belmont before I figured out that the map is broken up into roughly 2²km squares

- Bears (normally solitary) will attack up to 3 at once when tearing around the map on the quad bike at 3 a.m. - Bison likewise. Wolves, too. - Since, any bear or bison encounter has been as prey. - Running the quad bike into a mountain lion's ass at 37mph while it's running down the road only hurts you, not the puma. - 2 rounds of soft point .243 in the chest and 6 .357 rounds in the face only anger an attacking grizzly bear more (all I had on me).

The first thing I did when starting was to hop on an ATV at night time and go and open everything on the map that is possible . Just get it over with asap and you will be glad you did.

I definitely recommend getting a tent. I know it takes up a chunk of what you can carry, but you will always have your complete inventory wherever you go. Set up the tent, go inside and there is everything you own. Change out weapons, buy ammo, or whatever you need, then step back out and pick the tent back up.

Guys rember if your only armed with the base gun and encounter a moose, line up with its head then aim between the legs, cause thats where the heart is. I managed to bring down 2 moose (a bull and a doe) using that technique

Just got the game on sale for 6€, a real bargain. No DLC's yet though I'm gonna wait and play some of the base game first. Seems like the kind of game I can sink many many hours into. It's beautiful and you have to be patient and take your time with things which is just my kind of speed. And because you have to be patient it feels so much more rewarding when you do manage to get a good kill. Great beginner's guide, thx a lot.

scent eliminator works wonders on predators, wolves, bears, cats will find you 4-500 meters away if you are in bad wind. it shortens that to around 200m with eliminator

Scents lures work. I recently used Red deer scent and got nice RD in that group (was hunting RD female with heart shot in that time). Scent eliminator - until now I have always used it, I think it does not work like you think - that it will eliminate 100% of your smell. Maybe just a portion, but still avoid downwind direction. ;-)

If they're nearby I don't have trouble just sneaking unless I have bad wind. But if you wait until you hear warning calls before you start sneaking it's probably not gonna work out for ya. Stopping every few feet and listening for a bit helps too

I've been playing for a few hours now, have not managed to kill anything. I came here looking for an explanation on how to actually hunt an animal. I've tracked an animal for 5 straight miles before giving up. This video showed weapons, perks, equipment that I don't have, and it didn't answer my most pressing question - how do I find an animal to shoot to begin with? The accuracy you need to hit vitals is insane though. Hit a fox straight in the heart with a .243 and it just trotted off like nothing. Shortly before that, i took a bison down with a handgun on a blind shot..

The 12g shotgun with buckshots is actually pretty useful. I started a new game recently and it's amazing how effective it is on deer. I'd recommend keeping it and using it on any deer that comes within shotgun range and use the rifle for longer shots. 😁👍

Not played in years after one patch made that even at point blank range nothing would die. If I am one meter away from a dear and head shoot with a shotgun slug I want to see heads explode or take off a leg RDR2 hunting is far better and that is just a fecking side game. When hunting in Africa I want to be wasting Elephants and Giraffes it is a game ffs. Allow the player to be able to do something no longer possible in real like. Ethics in a computer game lol, yeah GTA5 shooting 304s to get your money back, but I can not shoot gut and skin a Panda. Call of the Wild kiss my butt.

If you enjoy working up to things I wouldn't recommend buying any weapon packs right off. I did and it was a mistake. I just wanted more options to work toward but it gave me everything for free which ruined progression for me. I ended up arbitrarily making a number up in my head then wasting that amount of money but it still felt shitty

I just bought this game about two weeks ago, and at first, I kind of hated it. Every shot had to be perfect. Then, I made a decision that changed my COTW life: I bought the Modern Rifle Pack DLC for $3.99 and equipped the Zarza-10 .308 Let me say this: if you are a beginner, and you want to level up the old fashioned way, don't do this. Stick with the .243, and take your time. But if you want to progress a million times faster, and actually knock down your targets without having to be right on top of them, spend the $4, buy the DLC, and be amazed. I cannot stress to you enough the difference that it made. It is literally a game-changer. It will be the best $4 you've ever spent.

The pack suggestions, at least the 30.06, gave me more penetration , easier kill...at a MASSIVE uptick in ammo cost. free to 805 for HV or 500-something for softs. 10 p;er purchase, ate it up fast, but 2 deer stands, 16 deer, made it back quick enough

I did get this game when it first came out and played for a short time but just couldn't get into it after having played thehunter classic since 2009 but decided to give it another try just recently and low and behold I had lost all my progress in the game plus the special rifle you got when the game first came out

My opinion. Don't buy first aid, it's a waste of money and takes up inventory space. Don't erect any towers or blinds, they cost money. Don't track any animals with a flesh wound. Personally, my advice would be to buy the weapon packs, they're dirt cheap and make a massive difference to a beginner. (I've just got to level 60 for the 5th or 6th time because I get bored and keep resetting. It's miles easier now because you get the weapons immediately, without any cost of in game cash). The .243 is underpowered and frustrating to use, yes the first bullets are free but with a weapon pack you can have a 30.06 and buy 10 bullets, plus this gun is ethical for Blacktail and Whitetail deer and is devastating! Also, the weapon packs include a bow and a rangefinder sight (which is part of the hightech hunting pack) and a very powerful crossbow and 5x scope (weapon pack 1). If you do buy any weapon packs it will make a massive difference and the game will be far less frustrating. Also buy the small backpack, as soon as you can afford it. This makes it easy to carry all weapons and callers, to cover every animal (if starting on Layton Lakes). My final piece of advice would be to start on Layton Lakes rather than on Hirschfelden. Layton has tons of animals with plenty of chances of longish shots along the river, plus trees to hide under to call animals in. If you don't want to buy any weapons packs then follow the advice of this video (except for first aid) and remember to have fun!!

It’s not super necessary on maps like Layton and hirschfelden, but once you get it the bigger maps with steep cliffs and more predators. They will definitely save you a bunch, from animals running into, buffalo attacking and even the wolves. I wouldn’t spend your money on them right at the start but once you get more into the game they are definitely worth it. It's a valid point m8 but my inventory is always maxed with weapons and callers, so I wouldn't want to waste the space. You get knocked out so little I just don't think it's worth it :)

For me the hardest thing is aiming im not gun person and for me its hard to know where to shoot cause the bullet can fly over or nit hit at all
