The 76 Ford / Mercury intermediates wagons were pretty solid. I always wanted a 77 Cougar wagon, and now have two, but perfer the 76 Montego wagon as far as how solid it was, all metal header vs. fibreglass on the Cougar. 76's had 15 inch stock wheels where the Cougar stock wheel was 14, and the 15 was an option with the fake poly mag inserts. I had a full set of the poly mag ford wheels, but they had balance issues and I switched to aluminum 15" wheels.

Dual exhaust (I had to do 3.5 inch pipes), mild cam. I dont put out as much power. Stock this motor puts out 365hp and 500ftlbs BEFORE the compression drop (like my early 72 Conti has, though shes pure stock, pure silent). This one though, Id say its about 350-400 at the wheel. Its a hoot to drive and swing around. Its 5400lbs though, so shes a big girl, but I can fit more girls in it. The most I squeezed in was about 8 lol. I still have it though but needs some work. She never saw the light, never braked! Knocked me into the 83 LTD in front of me and them into the Pinto in front of them. Bent the entire rear, frame and all, 45 degrees at the back of the rear wheels. Flat bed tow truck's winch couldn't pull it up the ramp, had to get in & fire it up, floor it shredding tires every where to help the guy load it. I raced her through the 1990's. Most of the HD parts were from the local police fleet of cars. The local race community considered her the ultimate sleeper around town. @tompastian34473 ай бұрын
@@I8ITSK8N 2011 should be a good year, about the last of the great cars .. there will be no more. 2026 has Biden mandates that will screw up a lot of the auto industry; mandatory 80 MPH kill switches, breathalyzers, and Harris will push to end gas powered cars entirely, God forbid. The CHP probably took out the high performance chip? I have a 2004 Grand Marquis. I went through about 2,000 dollars in wasted tune ups and replacing parts that didn't need replacing, due to the engine light coming on, which has symptoms like the transmission is slipping, or the engine is misfiring, especially on take off. It also shuts down the A/C compressor. I finally had a Ford master technician come to the rescue on the internet, who said that you need to get the main computer re-programmed. I went to 6 different Ford dealers and none of them even suggested re-programming. One told me I needed a new main computer, but Ford did not sell them anymore, so I would have to either buy an aftermarket computer, or get rid of the car. Then I came across Pines Ford in Ft. Lauderdale. Their repair dept. does reprogram the main computer. It had to be done twice, due to a coil failure after the first visit. Once the bad coil was replaced, it was reprogrammed, which solved the problem. About two years later, I had the intake manifold crack, which caused water from the radiator to short out a couple of the coils. Had the manifold replaced by Pines Ford, reprogrammed the main computer, and the car runs great again. They recently replaced the radiator, and the P.S. pump. I would not recommend replacing a main computer if you don't have too, since a replacement will need to be programmed too. This requires a bidirectional scanner, which requires a Ford subscription to be purchased compatible with the scanner. These are several hundred dollar scanners, not the cheap auto parts store scanners. These cheap scanners will allow you to shut off the engine light, but they can't reprogram the computer. The engine light will come on again if the computer is not properly programmed. Once the computer is properly programmed, the A/C compressor should return to normal operation.
