I miss them, I started learning hydroponics by watching their channel.

Hi! Great project, but I want to ask how you control nutrients in such system ?
@heavyoilguy9 ай бұрын
How often Do you change the entire nutrient solution in your raft system? or do you just top up? Very nice system, farm you have
@SaludaGradeFarm9 ай бұрын
I just top it up most of the time, and drain it once a year. I will start doing samples this year and adding what it’s missing!

Awesome stuff man…I’m in the northern New England area and thinking about a 3,000 square foot hydroponic greenhouse. My home has had the well dry up during the winter years ago and so we had it redrilled deeper and it’s been working fine since. I realize that farmers on fields go through thousands of times more water than a greenhouse would and that the water is conserved dramatically with the hydro system but am just wondering if I had a second irrigation well drilled how well it would do. I plan on just filling the system occasionally and letting the well recharge much of the time. Do you have any advice or wisdom on this matter and have you had any well water issues with your hydroponic setup?

We run 700 tomato plants and 4000 heads of lettuce at a time, along with 200 blueberry bushes and a family of 10 all using a well that only produces 2 liters a minute. By far the most water demanding things on the list are the teenagers, followed by the tomatoes, and at the bottom of the list is the lettuce. Maybe 200 liters a day max! And run misters to cool the lettuce!

We do have a 4000 liter reservoir on our well which helps. I

@@SaludaGradeFarm Oh ok that’s good to know. Thanks buddy…Do you think a 3000 square foot hydroponic raft style greenhouse with two pools, at full capacity, could generate a harvest of 1,500 lettuce plants per week?

Hello, impressive work. And thanks for posting videos. BTW why didn't you choose to do vertical hydroponics rather than traditional way? And how much is the total square feet you've utilized,and how kuch it costed you uptill now. (Just investment) Thanks in advance 😊
@SaludaGradeFarm Жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you! I didn’t go verticals because I wanted the highest quality heads as possible, and I didn’t want to have to use lights. Plus the guy I learned from had a setup like this, so I really mimicked him. I am now switching to all DWC systems. I have about $50k in all my setups, plus excavation. Everything has been paid for by the farm, except for a small grant for my tomato greenhouse. I’m now in my 4th year of farming, and 2 year of hydroponics, and I’m finally starting to be profitable, but if I stopped growing last year, I could’ve been profitable my first year of hydroponics if I knew then what I know now, and stayed smaller. Hope this helps!

@@SaludaGradeFarm thanks a ton for this detailed comment. I was planning to start same by investing time and whatever money I have currently. There are so many container farming business doing hydroponics. N I took that decision being misguided by such firms. But thanks to you for being honest. It's not easy as 1-2-3 or as it seems
@SaludaGradeFarm Жыл бұрын
It isn’t easy, but when you find what works for you it can be repeated. Container farming has pros and cons just like hydroponics. Find what works and stick with it!

Can the grow bags be reused, or do you have to buy new ones with each crop? Is this cheaper than using buckets with perlite?
@SaludaGradeFarm9 ай бұрын
They can be reused 3 times, and sanitized between crops using boiling water or hydrogen peroxide. For the amount of tomatoes I wanted to grown, this was the cheapest option. I am currently switching to $.25 grow bags. If I went smaller I would do a Dutch bucket setup.

It’s so cool to see the “behind-the-scenes” of the lettuce I purchase either er the Curb Market, the Hendersonville Farmer’s Market, or at the Hendersonville Community Co-op. ❤️

What do you do with everything you grow and harvest? I would imagine you sell it. What are your sales outlets, and how much time would you spend selling products. I saw in another video that you have a large walk-in refrigerator. I'm interesting in getting started in growing again, but would like it to be more of an investment and less of a hobby. Any info would be appreciated.

Yes, I start all my seedlings in oasis.
