Description:
1 minute and 53 seconds faster than the previous record by Vincent Catalaa which was set 21 years ago.
E4M3 and E4M7 have secrets that are either impossible or nearly impossible to get, so only 90% for E4M3 and 50% for E4M7 are required.
While the other episodes have had somewhat recent records, episode 4 has been ignored for over 2 decades. Episode 4 is surprisingly not crazy difficult for nightmare all secrets, but that only means the route could take more risk and be faster somewhere.
Anyways 2 years ago I did Nightmare all secrets for Doom II which I have no plans on improving at the moment, but I've made a new playlist for that and these episode runs here: • All Doom IWAD Nightmar...
Recently I've been routing/practicing for another run that's going to be significantly more challenging, I'm not sure when I'll be able to complete it though, but eventually it will happen. I've been working on some other runs at the same time so maybe I'll do ep2 and ep3 uv-speed again for example meanwhile.
Map comments:
E4M1: I wasn't close enough to the fence for a while there so the key grab was a bit slow, otherwise it went ok.
E4M2: Could probably do the start a bit faster if I have enough health, but there's a few shotgunners coming up and you just never know what damage you'll take.
E4M9: Decent chance I die on this level, didn't look into going directly to the yellow key which would be faster.
E4M3: Getting all secrets here is much easier since you grab a mega armor, backpack and a soulsphere. Could potentially run directly over to the exit area after the last teleporter, but with all the random monsters around it would be very risky, not to mention missing out on cells.
E4M4: Just hope I don't get blocked going for the invulnerability, easy level.
E4M5: Need to conserve as much armor as possible for the next level so I take it a bit easy here and don't rush the start.
E4M6: Perhaps the hardest ultimate doom level, but with enough cells and health/armor from the previous levels it was no problem here. Could of course go for the much faster route which is to hope the cyberdemon infights, but I'll save that for some other time. Would be faster to skip getting the soulsphere after triggering the secret too. Here though I drop down and BFG the cyberdemon from below, it will usually push him back so I need to move out of his line of sight so he'll come forward before I can hit him again.
E4M7: As long as I have some health left over from the previous level than this one is really easy. Biggest problem would be missing the exit jump which is a bit precise.
E4M8: Since you have so much health and armor from the previous level and get double soulsphere + mega armor this is also very easy. Probably possible to take some more risk here and get away with it, but for now this will do.

I almost never replay Thy Flesh Consumed because I always find it frustrating, especially the first map, but man seeing you clear it so quickly is so satisfying. Makes me want to try it again. Great job ZM.

The first two are the most difficult IMO. Little health, little ammo, crammed level design, and lots of bullet sponges.

M1's difficulty lies mainly in the Max category due to low ammo. Since this is NM-Speed it's not as troubling since killing every mob isn't a goal.

in doom2 it's done via lowering your model with lost soul spawn. But this secrets can't be done this way so there are either other not yet discovered ways to trigger them or it's just a programming oversight and is impossible. I think it's second and this is what made Romero do an "unobtainable" secret in doom 2 - after doom 1 people think it's expected.

@@МихаилЧалый-щ3ж I believe it's a programming oversight. When you see how he spawns the secret with the pain elemental in doom two it would make sense that the teleporter was the secret. These games came out in 94.. This technically isn't even 3D it's 2.5. Hell there are glitches that we're still finding out today with NES games. I bet the missing secrets are gonna need you to raise or lower yourself into the ground just like you had to do with the pain in 2 because of the way that this fake 3D engine works

Episode 1 is still the classic, but Episode 4 is better than E2 or E3. John Romero designed most of E1, while Sandy Petersen almost exclusively did E2 and E3. Sandy didn't do any of E4. Therefore Sandy was probably id's weakest level designer (besides Tom Hall but he doesn't count).

To be fair nightmare all secrets isn't attempted as much as other categories. Though the ball is in your court he didn't make many but there were moments that could be improved. So another record technically could be set

Thanks for playing my favorite UDoom episode :) Although M4 is a bit bland to my taste. Excellent run, no doubt it could go down to 7 mn, since you used a few safe strats here and there. Been years since I've played this...but I very clearly remember E4M1 and E4M2 being very difficult on UV...and thinking "wow! how much harder is this gonna get?!?" Unfortunately, the rest of the episode is kind of disappointing (and easier).

Zero Master. Think you could do a playthrough of Sunder 2047 ran with Brutal Doom Gold v.21? I run it with Zandronum, freelook, no autoaim. The new enemy abilities & reload style on the updated weapons makes a difference too. It would stray from the "vanilla" style gameplay obviously. So it would just be for pure cool factor. If Sunder has two plasma rifle pickups you can duel wield.. "I'm just Saiyan".

Maybe it was just me, but the jump into the exit room on map 5 looked like a close call with almost falling into the damaging floor, which would've been the most tragic way to lose an ep4 run. Imagine dying or losing an unacceptable amount of health right *before* E4M6 lol

Great work as always @ZeroMaster! This is probably a long shot of a request, but any chance you could re-record your Doom 2 100% secrets demo to show the stats at the bottom like these UDoom runs? I just get that happy tingly feeling seeing the secrets stats highlighted in blue when you 100% them.
