Dr Pepper is also not the name of the man who invented it. The man who invented Dr. Pepper actually created while working at a drug store Pharmacy. He created it as a gift for the owners daughter whom he had deep affection for but the father thought he would amount to nothing. The owner told him if he wanted to continue working for him he would have to never see his daughter again. The man decided to reluctantly quit than continue to work for such a horrid person. He took his soda idea with him and it was a huge success. Someone asked him what he called his beverage and he pondered. The only name he could think of that was so poetically perfect was to name it after his old boss. Because without his boss, Doctor Pepper, and his despicable view of the man flirting with his daughter, he would've never had the motivation to sell his product. Thanks for another great family fun video. Coke was the first brand-name softdrink on that list, but people had been brewing their own roor beer in different forms for centuries. Sassafras, sarsaparilla, and licorice roots were the three main ingredients. I used to make my own years ago.

I believe Root Beer is actually the oldest and Ginder Ale....like the original Venors Ginger Ale orginally Very strong...aged in wooden kegs about 6months...I used to live against street in Detroit plant that made it...at that time it was only plant they had...had people from all over coming and touring it and they had a visitor "soda shop" where they served ice cold root beer and also a root beer float called a Boston Cooler ....which was scoop of vanilla ice cream in large glass of venor's.. A real treat in the summer.

It was a staple of all whistle stops, freight stations, general store, drug store, soda didn't make a splash until carbonation happened and ice and refrigeration... We have a restaurant in our city founded in 1917 that has been in continuous operation and during Prohibition started making their own root beer. They still make it and it’s a special treat. I don’t know when it was actually made originally but probably years before it was commercially bottled.

Rootbeer, or any root type soda is the oldest because they were originally a fermented product made with the roots of birch trees and sassafras trees for example. The real stuff is actually really good. There was a guy in the next town over that still made the old school fermented stuff. FYI, there is a low alcohol content to the real stuff.
