I have 1 large leaf in the side of my 22 litre tank. The water is clear, water pentameters are perfect. It is a planted tank with Anubius Nana, Anubius Bonsai, monte carlo, stem plants (i forgot the name), a short growing 'grass' (also forgot the name, java moss and red root floaters. Only 1 water change in a month. The water is very slightly tinted brown- i also have alder cones in the tank, and bog wood. My nerite often glides over the leaf, also my endlers and shrimp love it. My betta prefers his bloodworns, but all are very active and happy ♡

Great info. Thank you. Here in Canada, many fish medications have been banned. We can still get some of them, but only from a Veterinarian. I have spent a good bit of time researching natural remedies. Some work, many don't....catappa leaves are very effective for wounds, fungal, bacterial. They are my 1st line of treatment now. I usually keep a couple in the tank all the time. Also add them to my quarantine tank before buying new fish.

Good approach, very natural! Yes, they are effective just not against everything. In general they are good as "prevention".

Is it necessary to boil them before putting them in tank
@AquascapingCube9 ай бұрын
No, because you would get rid of all the best parts of it :) I just rinse them with boiling water, but for very short period of time (10-15sec). This way they keep all their benefits.

Hey Matt. How many days will it take for the cattappa leaf to release its tannins?
@AquascapingCube Жыл бұрын
Hi. It's slower than with other leaves. I would say about 5 days to start release them. But how long it will last, it strongly depends on the leaf (size, age etc.). But in general they last weeks and sometimes months.

Hello Tracy. Thank you! I'm glad your platy tank is going well :) It's always great to see our fish breeding - this is the sign that all is well :)

Doesn't boiling it kill its effectiveness?
@AquascapingCube8 ай бұрын
Yes, this is why you should not do that. I sometimes only rinse them with hot water - but only few seconds. Boiling them works when you are using extract from them, not the leaves. But I still prefer to just place them in the tank.
