Honestly it's the only way to upgrade your weapon. Doing it for free will take you absolutely forever. Been playing 6+ years and finally started to upgrade my account. It started from getting a double glacier, which broke down to materials. Bought UC and level 3 now. I will eventually max the glacier, but level 5 is good for me.
