Nice video, keep it up! To solve the problem of different operating systems go to Preferences / Media Storage and enter the different mount points of your media. The Mapped Mount column allows you to specify translatable media path mapping between Mac, Linux, and Windows file system conventions.

Thank you so much guys for the tip with the DVR Server. This is pure Gold :) Please could you explain me the Mount Column? I successfully installed the DVR Server. I have a windows PC and a Macbook. On my WIndows PC i mounted C:\Users\username\Videos . On the Mac is mounted: /users/user/Movies. So does this mean for example. My Project ic called "test" i put all videos in the path of the mount in the folder "test" And Davinci is looking for the folder "test" on both devices? I know that the footage needs to be copied on both machines :) And what is the Mapped Mount in this setting? Thank you so much guys :) My plan will be to try out DVR on the IPAD. When this Project Server works, this would be a Gamechanger :) Got it to work. Thank you reddit :D I just past the solution from the thread: In Preferences->System->Media Storage just double click on the Mapped Mount field and add the other operating system's mount point. So using your example, on the Mac: Mount: User/Name/Files Mapped Mount: E:/Files/ And then of course on the PC do the opposite: Mount: E:/Files/ Mapped Mount: User/Name/Files And that will automatically relink between operating systems! So this will be super helpful also when you work on a external SSD on MAC and Windows

@@Remixah2008 on the Mac you go to "Preferences / Media Storage", "Add" and select the Volume on the Mac. Then you add "C:" in the Mapped Mount column. On the PC you do the same, just the other way round

everything works now 🙂 DVR on IPad and DVR on Windows Project Server. That's the BEST Solution I worked with so far. Gamechanger.

"I have a desktop in my home office and a laptop in the living room. To streamline my editing workflow, I've set up a Synology server to store my project files and media. Both computers can access the server using the same drive letter. This means I can open and edit projects from either location. The Synology server is backed up nightly to a local USB drive, and I also use the DVR's automatic save features. This ensures my media and project files are always protected. Even when editing multi-camera or 4K projects, the network connection works smoothly thanks to proxy files. My desktop is connected to the Synology server via a 10Gb Ethernet cable, while my laptop uses the local Wi-Fi network. This setup has been very effective for me. It's simple, efficient, and provides regular backups. While I can't edit the same project on both computers simultaneously, that's not something I need to do anyway."

Hi! How did you installed Davinci Project Manager on your Synology? I'm in the process of making a Network Library through Synology NAS but only been able to install Project Manager on an "always-on" computer, not on the NAS itself :(
@arskortguldsj3 ай бұрын
@@alejandrocubillasmultimedi369 Excuse me. I am NOT using the Davinci Project Manager att all. I have the project libraries stored on the the Synology Server ( and most of the media files too ) and access the libraries ( and the media files ) over the network ( direct connect and WiFi ). Works like a charm. Only drawback is that I can not simultanously edit the projects on botrh computers but I can not be in two places simultanously either. :-)

Be careful with this, I had a similar setup years ago however, the synology device I had used a hardware raid controller. Why does that matter? When the device failed I needed another one to access my data. No other way to reconstruct the striped data vols and I had to buy another one. I’ve since gone to truenas scale on bare metal and couldn’t be happier

Great video!! I needed to learn about the Davinci Server. I have a question, I have a Mac Mini that I would like to install the Davinci Server on and a Mac Studio so I can do color grading and it can be my main computer. I need to have a storage that both Macs can access. What do I have to buy? I don't need a NAS, but I don't understand how to connect two Macs to the same storage. Could you help me? Thank you very much.

Can I set up my computer at home so someone on the other side of the world can edit the video remotely without having access to the source files? I’ve had trouble transferring large files, so I’m looking for a way to enable remote editing without sending the raw footage.

Hello, I have a question that I need help with ASAP! I’m looking to get a laptop to run Davinci Resolve (HP envy 2 in 1) and I was wondering if the intel graphics are ok for Resolve or if I need a better model. Thanks!
@johnsfilmsllc12 күн бұрын
Sorry for the delay, I don't believe you would be very happy editing on that in the long run. If it's a Resolve specific device I'd look at something with a bit more power
@DVZNMedia3 ай бұрын
So, you do need to have the files locally on each device right? I would love almost like a stream editor where I could set it up on my desktop and edit on a laptop with the same power of my desktop.
@johnsfilmsllc3 ай бұрын
Exactly, have to have a copy of the files on your desktop AND laptop...ORRRRRR... if I had both machines on the same OS I could create a network mapped drive and leave a single copy of the footage there with the resolve apps accessing across the network. It would probably work here well, I have 10GBE setup across my house for my desktop/server and quick wifi. I like the streaming idea, you could just Remote Desktop?
@davidemarzaloni96623 ай бұрын
Using Remote Desktop dorsn’t allow graphical driver usage, unless you setup a very expensive VDI infrastructure… impossible for an home environment

I don't know why this isn't working for me. I have project server installed on one windows 11 system, but I cannot access it from another windows 11 system that are both hard wired into the same router. I have not made any typo's in the project library name or login credentials.

did i need to keep my server host computer always on when i want to access the project files from outside of my home?

the host of the resolve project server needs to be available when you want to edit.

I don't understand yet what is the benefit over storing your project library on iCloud or Dropbox. I am using iCloud and I can also access the projects on multiple devices, without the server or a postvres.
