In this guide, you’ll discover everything you need to know about surfing in Morocco! We’ll showcase the best surf spots, the optimal times to ride the waves, and what to do when the surf is flat.
With the cool breeze off the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts, Morocco is a fantastic surf destination for most months of the year. Thanks to its consistent waves, it’s widely regarded as a year-round surfing haven. However, it’s during the autumn and winter that the country’s breaks truly come alive.
Top Surf Spots in Morocco
1. Taghazout
Taghazout and its neighboring town of Tamraght are bustling with surf shops, cafes, and restaurants serving delicious Moroccan cuisine. Among them, Anchor Point is the most notorious surf spot in the Taghazout area, promising the ride of your life. This wave is ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers.
Explore surf camps in Taghazout: tinyurl.com/2y...
2. Tamraght
Located near the village of Aourir, Tamraght is named after the banana plantations overlooking the bay. Banana Point offers a long right-hander that’s excellent for all levels and rarely crowded. This spot is perfect for beginners looking to improve their skills.
Explore surf camps in Tamraght: htinyurl.com/22...
3. Imsouane
Just outside the sleepy fishing village of Imsouane lies The Bay, known for having one of the longest waves in Africa. This spot is a haven for beginner surfers and longboarders, especially between August and March. The Bay is perfect for those eager to catch their first green wave.

great job on the guide very accurate on all the good points of Morocco. Excellent cinematography lads. Always nice to set expectations correctly for people, so one suggestion would be to include some of the negatives, such as pollution and the crowd factor so people understand what places like Imsouane bay and Anchor point are like

Tripaneer 👌yeah morocco it’s amazing . As I said I went nearly exactly to the same places you are explaining . From the very first place I went was Tamrahgt then I moved on to Taghazout , and finally arriving to the longest waves in Imsoune after that I end up walking around in Imgrade, Tafedna and Essouira as my final destination before going back to Marrakech for my fight. This was more less 20 days . Now I’m going back to morroco for one moth and I will start surfing in the north and end up in the Sahara.

Hi @Tripaneer. Yes, you are right, you can find a lot of good surfing spots throughout the coastline of the country, Especially from Safi to down south. Safi has a good surfing spot called Rass Lafaa. I have been there once but I did not surf because the tide was low. I am living in Rabat and I usually surf only on the spots close to me, they are not as good as the ones in the south but we enjoy them. In summer, most people go down south to surf because the waves do not stop there:)

@geroziegler @wackywaller Unfortunately, Morocco is known as the land of the right-hand point break, and so not many lefthanders. Almost all swells come from the north so they get mostly righthander waves. Regardless, Devil’s Rock in Taghazout offers right and left waves (but, in particular, a right hand).
