Hi Ollie, About 7 years ago i started building a HC bike. 4 years later, i finished it, it was 4.79kgs. (4.95kgs with tribars for those flatter climbs). So having raced a stupid, impractical, creaky, uncomfortable bike, id MUCH rather loose 2kgs of pure fat! Cheers. mark

2kg increase in body mass - 1.84% increase 2kg decrease in bike weight - priceless (as in I can't afford it) So the second option please

Thoroughly enjoying the Weekly Series, quality keeps getting better and better! To answer the question, having lost 22kg this year through picking up cycling, i'd very much like the opportunity to put 2kg back on and take a 2kg lighter bike, might make it easier to lose those 2kg later on!! :)

+mthornton7 congratulations - that’s a fantastic achievement!

Money can buy a bike 2kg lighter, but money can also buy digestive biscuits, both bring enjoyment. I think i'd buy a bike 1kg lighter and have even more disgestive biscuits with the left over money!

I'd rather lose the 2kg myself coz my bike's fairly "heavy" and so reasonably cheap to upgrade (I'm 62kg so 2kg is pretty significant) BUT WOULD YOU RATHER take the KOM for DESCENDING Alpe D'Huez or get a top 10 (10th) for ASCENDING Alpe D'Huez??
@gamma_dablam5 жыл бұрын
Descending would probably take hella skill. Climbing needs crazy power. More chance for me of getting the climb because I am quite light
@rallymaniac926 жыл бұрын
You should come riding in the Black Forest, southwest Germany. There are a lot of gnarly climbs, like the Hornisgrinde, Oppenauer Steige, Kandel, and many more... and it's obviously closer to the UK than Mallorca!

Really great videos! I would for sure choose to drop 2 kilo of my body, or even 4 kilo to reach my perfect weight and super-aerodynamic snake-like look. I really like my simple but reliable alu bikes and great feeling of beating my old PR on Strava just by progress of my fitness. And for sure heavy bike always leave a room for excuses for being dropped! Would you rather have a super light but flexy frame or stiff one but heavy?
@gamma_dablam5 жыл бұрын
Both frames are awful Probably the heavy one
@thomasvmanning7 жыл бұрын
You can put out a fair amount of power... Don't you find the Hollowgram SISL2 flimsy? You noted several times that your ride was really stiff. I bet it was- except that crankset. I peeled chains of mine like a bad habit.
@TurneyUK7 жыл бұрын
PS good article in cycling weekly about becoming obsessive about eating clean and losing body weight. You don’t need to be super skinny. A bit of extra timber is fine and should avoid yo-yo dieting.

As I'm a Middle Aged Man in Leek (Staffs). See what I did there? Losing or gaining weight isn't the issue for me. If I could regain the 30% loss of lung function that comes with advancing years I'd be sooo happy. Then I wud strap pork pies to my bike frame and cycle in the nude. Just a thought.😎😎

Great vlog mate, next year you’ll smash it ⚡️👍 What with Brexit and the impending doom, I’d have to say it’s cost effective to lose 2kg off my weight and live off lettuce than upgrade and lose the weight off the bike. Then, with the resulting money I save I can spend the spare cash on biscuits. Oh hang on a minute...

Game theory is clear on your Q. Gain 2 kg of body fat, which equals 5 large cheese pizzas, costs $100. To lose 2 kg of bicycle weight costs $8,000. So the plan is: gain 2 kg of body fat, lose 2 kg of bicycle weight, in 4 weeks lose those 2 kg of previously gained body fat - net savings $7,900. Woo-hoo!!! Yeah, yeah, I'm geeking out and overthinking this thing.

I would definitely want to lose 2kg of body fat. It has more of an effect on performance on the bike than having a bike that’s 2kg lighter! There’s less stress on the heart and lungs and blood pressure in most people is directly effected by excess body fat and you look better! If you look better, you go faster! Right?

Yeah good. So what you are saying is you put on weight in the off season, understandable, but had a lighter bike. You would be no better off then if you were a few kilos lighter with a heavier bike, same overall weight. I think you’d probably actually be slower with lack of fitness. In answer to your question I would not want 2kg of ‘fat’. You can gain body mass without putting on fat. I came back after my summer holiday riding in the Alps and was 1kg heavier, but was fitter and leaner then ever. More muscle = weight gains = more power. Put the best riders on a heavy bike and they will still whip your butt! Train the body, don’t worry so much about equipment.
