@338cutie Yes, you are correct 'never turn your back on your opponent', however when fighting multiple opponents or being overwhelmed by attackers you may find an opponent at your back - the spinning hammerfist or other spinning attacks may be used in order to defeat or confuse your opponents (plus multiple counter-attacks). Krav Maga deals with changing environments when it comes fighting, either on the street or on the battlefield. Krav Maga will teach you to adapt and survive!

I see your point. However there are very few strikes that can be fired from a passive position that allow you to regain your balance and continue the beat down effectively. There are a number of strikes however that can be fired from a passive state that flow into a fighting stance and other strikes.

For those who don't get the breathing thing, breathing serves multiple purposes while fighting. You leave all your muscles loose when you strike and that "shh!" breathe tenses it for power on impact giving you more speed, mobility and power than tensing the whole way through your shots. It also tenses your stomach to protect against counter strikes. You see and hear this through any boxing match.

Krav isn't about beating people up or how to fight in the ring, its a self defense. Krav teaches us to avoid a gun/knife fight. The mentality behind it is "be safe, protect the ones you love and get home in one piece." We are taught mind games to distract before disarming a gun or knife attack, ONLY IF YOU CAN"T AVOID CONFRONTATION. If you have done Krav, your teacher didn't teach you the fundamentals. ;)

As a Krav practitioner, I agree. My trainer is always saying, "if you do that to a guy that knows MMA and you leave your ankle there, what do you think will happen?" Even Bruce Lee said its not about the style being better. It comes down to the level of the fighter. It's not even about MMA, its more about individual skill more than an "ultimate style of MA" (I get what you're saying though.)

It is because it´s everyday combat situations that they teach, they do not need any particular warm-up(which would keep them extremely fit), 5-10 minutes warm-up, if any and that´s it. Now compare it to Muay Thai, the warm-up is almost half of the training, really really intense. I´m doing both right now, I must say muay thai is exhausting and really fun!

Advanced Krav Maga is spinning backfist and karate chop ? Is it just different types of strikes in this DVD? I like the first one, contemplating the second one tho.

If these techniques were being performed by someone wearing martial arts gear instead of combats and a T-shirt it would receive hundreds of thumbs down on KZbin. It seems that you can demonstrate anything under the Krav Maga aegis and guys just love it. This looks like a Ricky Gervais sketch.

At spinning you must care that your striking hand is not too straight - have seen elbow injuries. And it is effective only when others guard is low or high but limp.Very easy to spin into trap.

Dont turn your back in a fight, but if an attack is comming fast and hard spinning out and redirecting your attack may just be survival. But that is what Krav Maga is. Not fighting but survival.

I just watched this again after reading your comment and he seems tense even when describing the finer points. He may seem off balance after the strikes because in Krav we are taught to continue the attack where he has to stop for teaching purposes. Not saying you're wrong but I have never made one of these videos so I can't judge it against myself.

@MegaTech09 I'm more of a boxer/kickboxer. In a fight where the only thing allowed is punches and kicks, and no 'grabbing' than yes I would use a spinning back fist every once in a while. How ever in a street fight, there is so much that your opponent can can do to you if he is able to grab onto you, when your back is still faced him. It's definitely possible that you can land the punch on him if you time it well,

@338cutie Spinning motions provide you with a greater momentum, and with the right movement, you can contain your moves and focus that momentum into destructive power. It can also be used to move away from gunbarrels at point blankt, and sometimes even evade sharp blades. And as a side note. Sometimes in a fight, turning your back can give you just the advantage you need to defeat your opponent quickly and efficiently. Go back to the sand bag ;)

Fair call. He doesn't seem too relaxed. I don't know if that's because its on camera or if he is naturally over-amped. Not trying to be a smart ass or anything but do you teach or are you just basing this on observation? (I promise no trolling will come from this. I'm just learning here.) Its hard to find solid Krav Maga techniques through all the bullshit I find on youtube and this is definately in the upper catagories.

Don't try the spinning back fist unless you're 100% sure you will land. If the guy catches you, you could be in a lot of trouble if he knows what he's doing.

As long as you set up any spinning strike, it can be effective. That's what I don't like about Krav Maga, they strike as wild as their opponent. I took Krav for about a year and felt that a mix of mma and my japanese jujitsu was much better. We sparred every class which allowed the proper resistance for real time fighting.

@338cutie Every martial art is different. Of course he's not going to perform the spin if his first attack doesn't set up the spin. Krav Maga is meant to be brutal. For example, you could jab your thumb into your opponents eye before you perform the spin. This isn't meant for competitive sport.

Actually, it's not a question of "how", but more of "when". Since when a person holding either a gun or a knife at you - belives that he/she has the advantage just because they are armed. Let me ask everyone here: How many of you have been physically abused i.e. kicked down on the ground and the person is still kicking at you? What is the first thing you think you would do??

In martial arts these kinds of moves are used, like he said, with a distraction or as a part of a combination of moves. In martial arts deception is the best way to make some big moves work, i.e. tai chi fan form uses deception to hide the next move. In any case, the move will work better when used by an experienced fighter and, if executed (with the right speed), can work even against experienced fighters. I would not encourage an inexperienced fighter to use this kind of move.

Ever try this on an attacker who is actually trying to attack you and not just standing there? How about donning the High Gear as well and having the attacker come at you hard and real and then trying the spinning technique? I understand this is for educational purposes only but quite irresponsible to teach without all of the above included.

but he wouldnt have it, you know the gun defence where you grab the barrel, move it to the side and punch the enemy with your other hand, that defence imo is rubbish and dangerous, because when you grab the barrel you dont have a good enough grip on it, and when you punch the other guy, hes gonna go backwards, which will make the gun slip out of your hand and then you're fucked, type krav gun defence and you'll see what i mean
