Great idea. I love the Galician whites, and -- even more -- the Galician reds that are coming out!
@Fulgencea6 жыл бұрын
Which Galician reds would you recommend? I have friends coming for a visit soon...What would you give them to try?
@spainrevealed6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cris - try the fantastic reds from Adega Algueira (www.adegaalgueira.com/index.php?language=en) ... Be ready for lighter styles than we're used to in Spanish wine. Which means when they're good, they've very elegant.

WOW! Thank you James. You just clarified what Rioja wines are all about is a fabulous short video. Thank you for boasting the Tempranillo cultivar, one that the average consumer does not know well(at least here in Canada), but once tasted, they realize the unique beauty and interesting aromas that pour out of this grape and the Rioja region. A well kept secret that needs no hiding. How do the South American Tempranillo's compare?
@spainrevealed6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment Leslie, and happy you enjoyed the video! Rioja is certainty a fabulous region, and tempranillo a wonderful grape. I haven’t tasted any SA versions - you’ll have to try them and let me know! What Rioja’s do you see in Canada?

Hi James, Love your video (watching on a cold, overcast night in Bristol UK - I am, however drinking a Spanish sherry - amontillado :-) ; I don't have a Rioja to hand). You may perceive I'm a fan of your videos and all things Spanish! I'd love to try these wines. You asked about a wine region: how about the wines made on the island of Lanzarote - very unique. Thanks a lot for your passionately informative videos. Gracias Tony

Hi James! I'm so thankful for your explanation! I'm a wine fan of 20+ years and there is so little that I understood about Rioja wine. The video was fun and informative. My hubby and I are going to Madrid and La Rioja for the beginning of our three week honeymoon (then headed to Croatia for 2 weeks). We look forward to possibly doing one of your food tours in Madrid. I would love to see videos on the small towns in Rioja.

Not really underated, many of the most expensive Spanish wines since the late 1990's are from PRIORAT, and they are known by winelovers around the World. An interesting cheaper alternative are the wines from MONTSANT, also from Catalonia.

Two wines from Rioja, which are modern but not as much as SELA and RODA (SELA being the younger brother of RODA and RODA 1), have a very good value for money, both being affordable, but in excess of 93 points according to Robert Parker, are FINCA LA MONTESA and FINCA MARTELO and even the younger brother of this late one, FINCA SAN MARTIN. Finca Martelo belongs to La Rioja Alta S.A, based in HARO, but is a second winery located at La Guardia, in the RIOJA ALAVESA, the neighbouring province. Really outstanding stuff. FINA MARTELO retails for about 28 € in shops and FINCA LA MONTESA for about 14 € a bottle. Expect to pay 30% to 40% more and even up to twice as much in a posh restaurant.

Interesting question :) The first thing you have to know, is that El Duero is one of the most important rivers in Spain, located in the Northwest. The matter is that this river go through many different regions inside the huge Spanish community of Castilla y León. But in this particular case, Rivera del Duero is attached to a very small part of this route. The route of the river Duero has created loads of Spanish important wine brands, such as Rueda, Toro, Arribes... The thing is that, even though Rivera del Duero is not very known outside the Spanish borders, nowadays is undoubtedly the strongest competence of Rioja.

I want to explore all the Spanish wine regions, but yeah, you can only drink so much. I was in Malaga in September and tasted some excellent local wines, and even some sweet dessert wines that I liked. So, my suggestion is for you and Yoly to enjoy the beaches and mountains of Malaga Province! And sample your 3 favorites from DO Malaga and DO Sierra de Malaga. Next, how about Murcia? Not well known and what looks like an interesting province. And finally, the stunning next door neighbor to La Rioja: Navarra.

The López de Heredia bodega in Haro is amazing, I keep going there and never have enough. Perhaps you can show the bodega in one of your videos? On the other side and the best example of modern bodegas is Campoviejo. Whilst their wines are decent albeit not the best Rioja, the bodega where they are made in Logroño is just stunning. Please check it out and visit it if you have not done it yet. Thanks and congratulations for your you KZbin channel!

For a future video maybe you could go to Trujillo's feria del queso. If you love cheese, you need to try Torta del Casar (featured in that fair in a lot of its variations because it is typical from Extremadura). @mrickling7 жыл бұрын
Not such a fan of modern, over-extracted wines and those with way too much new oak -- love LdH, of course! -- so would be more interested in any Spanish wine region which could be described as traditional or evocative of a sense of place. Know Spain makes a ton of wine in a modern style so not too sure what else would fit this bill there beyond Rioja. You should definitely do sherry. Maybe cava, txakoli and Basque and Asturian sidra.
@spainrevealed7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Lots of great Spanish wine that shows a sense of place. I'm starting to think of wines from the north-west... which are really a region to watch.

@HookahBurdar Жыл бұрын
In terms of wine? Well, Granada is not a typical or traditional wine producing province, peopleo there would drink Rioja, Ribera de Duero, wines from Valdepeñas and Ciudad Real, in Castilla-La Mancha as well as Andalusian wines from Cadiz, Ronda and Malaga on top of Manzanilla from Sanluxcar de Barrameda and Sherry from Jerez de la Frontera. Now, you still can find wine produced in Granada, and it is always interesting to taste local wine.
