I think the challenge was not fair. The answere was between 1954 and 1956 and Ben said 59. If he had said one of those two I would agree, it I don’t think giving Ben a new question was right.
@commando5525 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they should have just not given Preston the point. It isn't like the date is hard to work out either, it was nominated in the 1957 Oscars which means it was released in 1956. I can't actually find anything that says it was released in the US in 1954, the only thing that does is the Google infobox which is notoriously unreliable as they are auto generated.
@ShivaKumar-gs7nb5 жыл бұрын
I second that. The judges wouldn't have done that if it was the other way around though. A clear push for Bateman. They had already given him an easier bracket with rookies.
@ScrubNigel5 жыл бұрын
@@commando552 19 November 1956 to be specific, according to IMDb. Can't find anything to suggest otherwise, but I think it's stupid to ask a question about when such an old movie was released in the U.S, when it was released 2 years earlier originally. The movie release date category is about knowing when a movie was first released. Should avoid movies that were released later in the U.S.
@sivad10255 жыл бұрын
I see it both ways. Technically, you're completely correct in saying he didn't get the right answer. But j also feel like it's unfair to give an ambiguous question in the first place because it can throw off the player.

@Just_Ben_5 жыл бұрын
I don’t know how I feel about that challenge. Firstly, I kind of think challenges should have to come from the players. Ben challenges without even knowing what he was challenging. In the past, Kristian has always demanded that players tell him exactly what they’re challenging and hasn’t allowed the manager to talk to the player during the round. This kind of changes the dynamic of what a challenge is in my opinion. On top of that, Ben was wrong either way. He guessed 1959. After the challenge, they found that some sources claim 1954 while some claim as late as 1956. Either way, that’s not Ben’s guess of 1959. Ben was definitively wrong. I think it’s fair to challenge that Paul may not have been correct, but giving Ben a new question gives him a chance at points which there’s no conceivable way he could have gotten.
@01tshepo5 жыл бұрын
Exactly, so now just anyone in the audience can challenge a question? That is absolutely unfair and you right he got the answer wrong either way awarding him another 2 pt question is just wrong no matter which way you look at it
@sivad10255 жыл бұрын
I'm really split on the new question. On one hand, I think it's unfair because he did get it wrong. On the other, I think it's unfair because the questions are timed and he probably used his time wondering which release they were talking about. It's the same thing with Mike vs. Sneider. I was mad when Sneider challenged Mike mid question because Mike could have potentially asked for a repeat. Whenever something interferes with their time, I think it's fair to award a new question.
@jturbo475 жыл бұрын
I agree they should have just given Paul another multiple choice question. Ben should not of had another chance for two points.
@FinalLevelBoss5 жыл бұрын
The rules for the challenges can quickly turn vague just like their spelling rules. Please refresh my memory, I don't remember which match Kristian stopped a manager from talking to his or her player in anything. Whether it was during the wheel spin, picking numbers or even during a challenger. Kristian only tells them to stop if it disrupts the game, interferes with the opponent or possibly cheat. He does give countdowns if the manager is taking too long. If I remember correctly there's been several matches including one where Andreyko issued a challenge and was not playing, is not a manager and no one stopped it. Fans and players in the league often say managers don't do anything but just stand there and share the glory. Well this is an example of where a manager did something and something helpful at that. Now if it would've been Murrell or Rocha who stepped in then maybe it should be dismissed. If Paul had Roxy, Fyffe or even Kaiser in his corner they could've stepped in for Paul and possibly come to an agreement on how to go about the challenge. Since Ben picked an answer that wasn't in the challenge maybe don't give him a 2-point question, however I don't think Paul gets a -point question either. I'd say give Paul 1 point with no multiple choice if he get it wrong throw it back to Ben.

I am a little confused on the challenge because even if it is between 1954 and 1956 shouldn't Paul just not get the points and the question be over because Ben guessed 1959.Just a weird ruling to me because technically if two websites report different the earlier release would be the documented earliest release as I think 1956 was wide release which wasn't the question.
@Theisenturkeys5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure but i assumed it is because the answer is incorrect so it nullifies the question. I believe that is one of the more recent rules for this season is if it can be proven that the answer the question writer say is the answer that the player gets a new question .

"Masterbateman" lol. Good match, better than I thought it would be. Very evenly matched the entire time. Now Preston IS an underrated competitor. He is amazing in these matches, he just seems to come up short by missing the last question or losing by one point. He was also screwed over by that ridiculous challenge result SMH. He might end up becoming like McWeeny and Lon, a great competitor who's record doesn't do him justice or reflect the great competitor he is. Bateman is another overrated player that isn't that good (just like Stacy but he's technically a little better) I can see Brendan beating him but if not, we all know Bateman isn't winning this tournament. He will crack and choke like he always does, same for the team tournament. Especially with his rusty partner Reilly. Bibbiani and Ethan will EASILY destroy him if he has to face one of them.
@ajl97725 жыл бұрын
@@bsbgirl85 LOL hater. I think Bateman is properly rated by most fans. Average fan isn't calling him elite, but he's well above average. His only losses in the entirety of the schmoedown have been to champions. Pretty sure he has higher round 1 accuracy than Samm Levine now. Brendan is no slouch and is someone I could see winning the whole tournament. The only thing about Brendan is we haven't really seen him beat anyone close to elite yet.

That challenge ruling was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. Even if the release date is debated being between 1954 and 1956, Bateman chose 1959. He got the question wrong. The film was released in 1954 and is recognized as such by any film source. If they really want to argue it, then they should've taken the point away from Preston, not given Bateman an entirely new question.
@adamwitt62965 жыл бұрын
Michael Filosa You are correct, he was offered both contested dates, chose neither and then got to pick the date of Frankenstein for twice the points. Un-Fun fact: Possession is a foreign film released in Europe in 1981, and America in 1983. Two dates.

I agree. I mean his 2nd round questions were a joke. Top Gun, Shutter Island, Frankenstein?? Actually he should have got the Seven Samurai one after hearing the choices. Bateman was right to challenge. The film was originally released in Japan in 1954, but for AMERICA it didn't hit till 1956, and it received Oscar nods in 1957, further supporting that 1956 is, in fact, the correct date (although it's listed as The Magnificent Seven on the Oscar Site even though that film didn't come out until 1960, so hell if I know what that's about, I mean I know it's inspired by Seven Samurai but that's a pretty big error). Come on, Skalicky, do some homework. Anyway, I'm really excited to see Brendan vs Ben! But I feel a bit torn...I have newfound respect for Ben after last season, but Brendan is just so much fun and he keeps impressing me a lot....it's gonna be tough to pick a favorite in that Round 3 match haha.

I think there should be a way for the competitor to ask their manager for advice. If Dagnino told Ben to challenge, I would agree with you. That's not fair. The players should know that it's challenge-able. But they should be able to consult if they think there's a problem.
@brucecooley705 жыл бұрын

But it's not the same thing. Sneider went to MC so Oyama had to take the MC option. Ben's question was wacky from the start since it's not an American film. If he had a different question, he may not have gone to MC, as we saw.
