Wow, what an insanely high-quality comparison video! 🤯 I can't even imagine the hours of work that went into shooting these photos, taking notes, and editing this video together. You are an absolute legend. I've hardly ever taken slow shutter photos, but I remember using Slow Shutter Cam on my iPhone 5s back in 2013. It's awesome to see it still being updated and keeping up with the rest of the apps in 2021. Also love that Moment ended up in your Top 3.

Excellent video. I've been using Slow Shutter Cam for a few years. I've tried other slow shutter apps but I always go back to it. I am looking for alternatives for my students so thank you for sharing new apps to try. You're very thorough with these comparisons. To answer your question about how ISO functions in Slow Shutter, it does help tone down a brighter night sky when you set the iso to lower settings. Sometimes it doesn't kick in right away but you will see the light stop down on your screen if you wait. Thank you again for your video comparison. Happy shooting!

While I really enjoyed this review I honestly believe you left out 2 very important points that are well worth recognition Size of these apps and Price point. It is my biggest disappointment with iPhone coming from Android where almost all these features come built in to the factory stock camera app. TBH I still keep my old Android phone sitting around for this exact reason and have yet to jump into a app that will allow me to put it to rest for good.

Fantastic video and clear presentation. Thank you. Would love to see you do a comparison on astrophotography using these apps. For what it’s worth, I recently used the iPhone 12 Pro Max native camera app’s Night Mode @30 seconds on a tripod and was able to easily capture the Milky Way - I was very pleased with these photos. However, no matter what I tried on the Even Longer app (non-Pro version), all I could capture was black screens. Not sure what I did wrong…. perhaps Even Longer isn’t designed for astrophotography? Your thoughts much welcome. Thanks.

I’ve paused this to comment so if it’s covered later in the video, I apologize, but when you mention that Spectre has a minimum shooting time of three seconds, you can shorten that by tapping the shutter again while it’s exposing. I’ve done many photos at under one second with Spectre.

Actually if done in pro mode iPhone 15 photos does look better than P8P. But you need to shoot in raw and do sone stacking. Auto mode for astrophotography is just not worth the time.

Check out Davids **CORRECTION** in the videos description above. The dropping frame rate of Even Longer was do to enabling bracketing, a mode not that best works for longer exposures where the frame rate is less important. Using the normal RAW mode without bracketing gives you consistent high enough frame rate and the unmatched image quality of Even Longer. So I would clearly recommend Even Longer for waterfalls, but I may be a little bit biased because I'm the developer;-)

Don't you think that it would be fair to mention, that already pricy "Even Longer" app requires Pro subscription in-app purchase to deliver? Don't get me wrong, the app is very unique and great, unfortunately RAW is not available without additional payment.

You’re absolutely right. Price is important and I was going to mention it initially but then decided to just focus on the apps’ results and user experience instead. I personally don’t think Even Longer is expensive for what you get and its cost is actually in line with a lot of other modern advanced camera apps these days.

@@David_Addison I understand that, however after watching your other video which was focused on this app, from the narrative it wasn't so obvious. Actually, most of the features such as Parallel bracketing, and what was most important for me - RAW file format are locked under the subscription based membership. I wouldn't agree that cost is in line with other apps, it's significantly more expensive if you compare what you get from the non-pro version of the app for which you still have to pay. What is unique is the method, but it has its own drawbacks as mentioned in the video.

Using manual controls degrades image quality when shooting with processed files, I’m currently working on a video about it. As with RAW, you’ll always get some amount of noise even at the lowest ISOs because of the tiny sensor and pixel pitch. The best you can do with RAW is try to shoot in good light and as low an ISO as possible like 25 or 32, whatever is lowest on your phone.

These apps don’t capture a real long exposure, they capture a series of images (30 per second for example) and merge them to create a long exposure effect. I’m not sure if any of these apps are available for Android, sorry.

I really appreciate all your effort on this video and almost went for the RAW version of Even Longer based on your enthusiasm until I read their info and realized they did not implement RAW for the Ultrawide lens that I have been using a lot in the JPG version. The Halide folks implement RAW fine on the ultrawide. Please correct this oversight in your review and hopefully you will be more careful next time.

It’s not an oversight. No app on current iPhones is able to shoot in RAW with the ultra-wide camera.

i like to do astro timelapse on smartphone.... for that i used 30 sec exposure at 3200/6400iso for each photo on my xiaomi phones ...but other midrange phones don't have this long exposure or even if they have it they don't work very well like the xiaomi's.... i want to know which would be the best for astro timelapse on android... use a midrange samsung like a52.. that would be a good example... please do one for android.... most of these aren't available on android...
