Plus I was just asked to shoot video at a brothers wedding. While I want the DJI, because of budget constraints I am confident that the Hollyland Lark will accomplish what's been the low light of the vidoes. Thanks for this great comparison.

I'm glad you were able to find the channel - when I initially was creating it, my main audience I had in mind was churches, missionaries, and non-profits. So the type of content you're creating is exactly where I wanted the content to reach! The Hollyland is great. Once you get one of the TVs home, though, and you're not comparing it to every other TV, you'll find that it still has a great picture. Great comparison! I'm curious why the AnkerWork M650 didn't make the cut for being a contender for your option #3 recommendations? What do the Rode and DJI systems have that the M650 is lacking?
@SmartphoneStorytellers Жыл бұрын
The biggest reason is that while using the M650, I had some minor audio hiccups that made the audio not as pristine as the other audio. You can ever so slightly hear one of them in the outdoor test in the video. It's not major enough to discount the mics entirely, but since it was the only mic that happened with it fell just below the Rode and DJI. That being said, as I noted those units were beta units, so it's possible that was fixed in the updated firmware. I'm expecting to get my mics back updated in the next two weeks, so I'll run some more tests and see if I should revise my recommendation!

Lovely guide, crisp, knowledgeable, insightful and very fair. Dug your attitude and approach, have liked the video and subscribed to your channel. I thought the DJI on features, ease, quality was the best, though on just the rawness of the sound quality and how crisply it showcased the cadences of your vocal range across your naturally 'trained' ability to throw your voice so well keeping a super-balanced naturalness across high and low, the Rode II has the edge over all others. BTW, the quality of your studio mic too is amazing. Which one do you use? I record and publish podcasts from MediaBrief (won't share a link as this isn't a surrogate comment to get some hits) and I use the Shure MV7. But do please share which mic you use for your studio recordings. Thanks again for the lovely walkthrough. The fun of doing a good thing is doing it really well, and if I may so without sounding patronizing, you excel at it.

Hi thank you for the great video☺️ I'm looking for a solid wireless microphone, mainly for KZbin vlogs and Instagram reels. My plan was to actually purchase the DJI Mic, but now I got a coupon from my company for a website which would allow me to purchase the anker m650 for only 30 dollars. Unfortunately this website doesn't offer the DJI Mic. My question is, is the sound quality that different between this 2 mics and would it be recommended to get the Anker m650 for cheap or invest the 300 dollars in the dji mic?
@SmartphoneStorytellers Жыл бұрын
$30 for the Anker is great, I have run into one issue with the Anker recently though. If you are recording directly to the transmitter and not connected to your phone or camera, I've found it will suddenly stop recording. It didn't do this for me during my initial tests, but it's now done it to me twice in recent weeks. I haven't been able to track down the issue yet, but it gives me pause recommending it unless you're connecting it to your camera. If you connect it directly, the only issue I've run into is occasional interference, but you'll find that with almost any wireless microphone. Otherwise the recordings all come through and I haven't lost anything when using the receiver on the phone. This could be a fluke with my unit, but it is something to be aware of!

I actually hadn't heard about the Comica until your comment. It looks pretty solid from what I've seen, but I can't speak to the audio quality firsthand since I haven't used it. But not sending to New Zealand, damn it. But Also how do you find the mechanics of fitting and holding the receiver to the phone? Stable?
@SmartphoneStorytellers Жыл бұрын
It honestly depends on which receiver I'm using. When I use the Hollyland Lark, I honestly just let it dangle by the wire. It's light as a feather and I'm usually using it on a tripod, so it doesn't put too much tension on the port or the wire. If I'm using something like the Deity Pocket, I try to find a way to clip, gaffe tape, or wedge it somewhere on the rig. The ideal setup would be to have some sort of cage on the phone where you could attach it to a cold shoe or other connection, but that's not always possible!

The connection to the camera can definitely impact the sound quality, but for all of these I connected them directly to my phone via the same cables (unless the unit connected directly to the phone, like the DJI and AnkerWork.) I didn't notice any major differences in sound quality due to connections, it all really fell down to the quality of the mic. But I'll be honest - if I had no external mics, I'd happily take any of these and use them - they all sounded great overall! It just comes down to the features you're looking for.

So the dji miss don't have noise cancelation? And if not. Is there a possibility that they can introduce it thru firmware updates?
@SmartphoneStorytellers Жыл бұрын
DJI doesn't have any software noise cancelation. The big noise controlling feature on there is the ability to record a safety channel, but that just protects you against audio peaks and loud noises. I suspect they could add noise cancelation features in the future, but I'm not aware of any plans for that. These are really designed for situations where you'll be treating your audio in post. Even without onboard noise canceling, they are a VERY solid option. I find noise canceling onboard to really just be a failsafe, as the effect it has on the audio quality is more significant than when I run noise cancelation in post production.

@SmartphoneStorytellers Жыл бұрын
Personally, I preferred the DJIs for their form factor and overall features. The noise canceling on the M650 is very intriguing, though, and the fact that it's $100 less does sit in it's favor. I'm waiting for my units to be sent back to me (AnkerWork is updating the firmware since it's still the beta firmware), so when they come back I plan to do another deep dive into them to see where it landed. They were great overall, I just ran into a few small transmission glitches that I didn't have with other mics. That being said, I'd make sure to run whatever mic you get with the local record so that if you do have transmission issues then you have a safety fallback.
