Hi, great video. I am trying to figure out one aspect, I have few USB microphones connected to laptop and I have one physical Audio Mixer in the hall. The voice output cable from laptop connected to physical mixer. I have voicemeeter Banana, when I choose the A1 output selecting "WDM headphone" so the sound go to mixer, there is no sound coming. When I choose MME headphone then the sound coming but with some sound feedback (echo type). Any idea how to fix this?
@CecilMerrell8 ай бұрын
For those watching now, it looks like the voicemeter outputs are now individually labeled a1, a2, a3, a4, a5, b1, b2, b3 in system sound settings. Per the example shown in this video, the dedicated mic channel would now be B1, and the Mixed Mic/Audio for obs would be b2.
@NavyTheNerd7 ай бұрын
You are right, in new releases you can enable the VAIO Extension through Menu --> VAIO Extension License. This way you don't need to install additional cables and can use the shipped virtual interfaces directly as input and output on the physical channels in voicemeeter.

As of May 31, 2024, under Windows 10/11 (64-bit), VoiceMeeter now installs a new single virtual audio driver offering 8x virtual audio I/O. The three regular virtual outputs are now displayed with the BUS Name, so you will need to reselect the recording device in all your applications that previously used it. From OLD to NEW: new vaio extension - the outputs are: VoiceMeeter Out A1 through A5. For the old VAIO drivers, the new mappings are as follows: VoiceMeeter Output > VoiceMeeter Out B1, VoiceMeeter Aux Output > VoiceMeeter Out B2, and VoiceMeeter VAIO3 Output = VoiceMeeter Out B3. Go to your PC's Control Panel, click on Hardware and Sound, then click on Sound, and review or change your selections. :)

I am trying to feed as many separate audio channels into OBS to capture them as individual audio tracks. Does everything have to go through the virtual outputs or can I map those sources (assigned to various virtual cables) directly to separate sources in OBS? Thanks!

Best video about Voicemeeter Potato I've seen so far. If you have a dedicated streaming PC you can send the audio to it over the network with the VBAN feature. Both PC's need to have Voicemeeter installed of course.

Yes of course VBAN is a great feature. I don't have a dual pc setup or other need for it, but for sure that's the one topic I'm missing in my tutorial.

I have been streaming for a while now and use different tech to host the streams. The newest locations were only allowing 1 input for microphone when I needed to bring in my PC audio as well. And now I need to bring in an external computer (Xbox) as well. The routing tutorials never really explained HOW IT WORKS. So, I tried copying several people's pathways, but things kept failing. No one had the same setup as me. Rodecaster pro, PC, Xbox. This tutorial broke it down like I didn't already know everything and that is exactly what I needed. Last night I punished my teammate with reverb and gamesounds so the stream could hear him. And somehow, the stream lost my browser audio. It was beyond frustrating. Anyway. I have a show today and everything should be up a running thanks to this video. Much appreciated for the instruction and detal.

This was perfect ! Finally a full explainer of VB-Audio's confusing (to me) original documentation. 👍 I don't use any of the apps you mentioned, but I was now able to implement this for my general music production setup, as long as I only need the stereo master output of each app. Especially the microphone setup and the connection between the B-buses and the VAIO/AUX channel strips were always a mystery to me. I run several dedicated ASIO only apps like Cubase, Wavelab and standalone VST instruments apps like DecentSampler, Halion, Groove Agent, Kontakt etc. at the same time where EACH app can offer dozens of stereo ASIO only in- and output channels themself (i.e. for each individual drum sound or instrument). Up until now I had to record track one after the other because of the cometing accesss to the ASIO interface and channels. Some of the standalone VSTi can be simultaneously played live via connected MIDI keyboards or drum pads -- the MIDI routing to each app is pretty straightforward. But there might be additional audio comming from a guitar and XLR mic connected to the audio interface - also an ASIO device. As for the VSTi apps I want to (potentially) route all 16 stereo output channels (= instruments) of the standalone Halion into separate tracks in WaveLab. As VSTi plugins they all work fine inside Cubase or other DAWs, but the routing of the standalone apps is very limited when attempting to do a multitrack recording in WaveLab due to the lack of ASIO "devices" and channels.
@CirTap2 ай бұрын
If this is all possible with "VB Matrix" or even "VoiceMeeter" then I'm good to got, otherwise I may need somebody to explain to me the relevance of VB-Audio's "HiFi-Cable / ASIO Bridge" :-) The little documentation I found is utterly confusion and I can't get it to work -- or it eventually blocks all other Windows audio. Is this "HiFi-Cable/Bridge" even of any help or required if I already use "VB Matrix" and/or "VoiceMeeter"? The "HiFi-Cable / ASIO Bridge" is a couple if years old already and it appears somewhat of an early approach of a generic multichannel in/out ASIO driver. "VB Matrix" or even "VoiceMeeter" provide multi channel ASIO drivers and basically superseeded that, if I'm not mistaken? ... and then there is VBAN which sounds interesting with its network MIDI support.

You comment that there are good videos out there, but I haven't found anything interesting that works with Voicemeeter Potato and these options (mostly focused on the microphone). Do you have any video that you could recommend on this topic? Thanks for your time, very nice work!
@NavyTheNerd Жыл бұрын
basically every tutorial should work. there is nothing special about using the voicemeeter compressor and eq. you just need to learn the basics of what the ratio, attack time and release time do and for the eq you need to understand what a eq does. In the end you need to identify what you want to change in your audio recordings. e.g. if you think your lacking presence then you need to boost higher frequencies a little, but in the end its testing, understanding and a lot of experience of how different frequencies influence sound.

keep in mind, you always need to record the cleanest audio you can possibly get, because it's very hard to fix bad audio in post. especially if it needs to be done in real-time due to live streaming. so if you have a very noisy environment, you won't get rid of that noise without sacrificing audio quality. with a compressor you even will increase your noise floor. but if you need heavy noise removal you can try something like nvidia broadcast noise removal (if you have a nvidia gpu).
