At first it looked a bid odd to carry a mid sized camera and 200mm zoom on a shoulder strap, but I’m quite happy I bought this product. It also counter-weights the other stuff in my backpack. I use it all the time when the weather permits, can certainly recommend this product.

That's totally true and something that should be kept in mind. The backpack strap is more safe but for the best security having the camera in a backpack is anyway the best option. But everything depends on the situation and the level of risk you are ready to accept :)

Hi and sorry for the late reply! The Capture works but is not really 100% ideal for cameras with battery grips and long lenses. It should still be usable with that setup. Hope this helps in case you are still wondering :)

Great video. You mention the system works best with the smaller mirrorless systems, yet Peak Design's lens kit doesn't support many/any of those brands including Olympus and Fujifilm. Also know that worn with a large puffy jacket, movement may cause the locking mechanism to release the camera allowing it to fall. It has happened to me several times before switching back to a different brand.

Thank you Phineas! You are right about the limited support for mirrorless mounts with the lens kit. It works nicely with the Sony system I'm using but it's unfortunate that they don't offer versions for most other smaller systems. Also please note that by turning the release knob on the Capture clip, you can actually lock it so your camera won't be released even if the knob is accidentally pressed. This is something you might find useful at times if wearing certain clothing and moving a lot. The lock is especially useful with the lens kit because it doesn't affect the speed of attaching or de-attaching lenses. Thank you for dropping a comment and pointing out the issues you have had with the system in an appropriate manner :)

@@Adventuregrapher thanks for the detailed reply and thoughts. Sadly the turn lock mechanism was engaged when the incidents occurred. Problem is that clothing can also introduce a twisting motion when depressing the release, causing the mechanism to simultaneously unlock and release. Sounds like a freak accident I know, but after multiple camera drops I've lost interest in trying again.

Hi, the Capture doesn't work with other plates even though their plate is ARCA compatible and can be used with other tripods. So unfortunately you can't really use an L-bracket with the Capture. Maybe in the future Peak Design might release a compatible L-bracket :)

Yeah, @CroIntr00X broke it down pretty well, thanks :) Combining the videos is done by putting one on top of the other and cropping (or masking) out half of the image on the top one. Feather the crop or mask edge to make it look seamless. The exact process depends on which program you use :)

Hi, thanks for your comment and question! Your camera with those lenses is approaching the point where the Capture is not perfectly comfortable but it will still work. You need to at least use the Pro Pad with that setup. You might also want to consider a wide strap like the Slide or Slide Lite by Peak Design so you can use the clip and the strap together or alternate between them depending on the situation. Take a look at my latest video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/lafEmqubraZnmbs) to see my review of the straps. The same applies with the lens kit, it will work but not be 100% comfortable. If you are mostly just walking I think you should be fine. But if you are also running, climbing or jumping I think those lenses will not be that comfortable to carry on your hip. A camera bag with side access is also one option. At least Click Elite and Lowepro have some good options that are suitable for hiking as well and Peak Design's Everyday Backpack is a more urban option. Not as fast as the Capture but I still like to use a bag for bigger setups sometimes. To sum it up, there is not a perfect solution and especially with bigger cameras and lenses some compromises are necessary. But I hope this helps you at least a little to sort out some of your options :)

I'm using a grip at my camera and with a lens on (say 24-70) i guess if I use the clip at the backpack the camera wight flip the clip (twist shoulder strap) and it feels uncomfortable by carry it in this way. Hi Markus, that was a very good question and something I don't really talk about in this video! Anyway, you can see me here using a full sized DSLR and a 24-70 while the capture is on my belt. As I mention, it works but is not really that comfortable. The same applies with the clip on a backpack strap. Are you using a grip all the time or just sometimes? Anyway, if you decide to get the capture, you should also definitely get the ProPad to use with it. The pad makes it quite a lot more comfortable to use with a grip. Without it I would say a camera with a grip and a f2.8 zoom is too uncomfortable to use. With the pad it's definitely usable but just not 100% comfortable. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for this - you've got the same sort of setup that I'm looking at - probably 3 capture clips and a lens kit, and an F-Stop bag, though was looking to use it with 2 camera bodies and probably bigger lenses, the biggest of which would be a Nikon 70-200. So yep, you have the same concerns I probably do. Does the pad make a big difference? and does the clip on the F-stop bag strap feel more comfortable than on your belt for bigger stuff?

Hi Scott, that sounds pretty similar to what I'm doing, I'm also rocking 1-3 clips depending on the situation and carrying two bodies. And yes, the pad does make a difference, you should get it for the 70-200! While the clip on the backpack strap feels a bit more comfortable with bigger setups compared to the belt, you still can't "forget that it's there". But as long as you are not running/climbing/jumping a lot, you will be fine :)

I still afraid about collection dust into the switched lense. Because you will likely collect dust on the open side of the "Capture Lens" Rotation thing - especially when you rotate the lense down you will swap the dust into the lense and next into your camera. I know they provide caps for that - but as shown in your video, you don't use it because it slows down switching the lenses.... I like it but still not convinced about that system... :-/

Hey, thanks for commenting! I was at first concerned about the same issue. I used to check the mount often before putting the lens there to see that there is no dirt or dust. However, I noticed that most of the time there's surprisingly little of anything there. Of course sometimes there is - and yes, some of it will get into your lens. But some dust will get there anyway unless you never switch lenses at all. With the lens kit you just might need to use an air blower a little more often than normally. I actually now use the Lens Kit most of the time with 2 lenses attached to it so both of the sides of it are actually protected from dust. With another Capture for your camera it's actually possible to switch lenses with this setup basically as fast as with a single lens. And you will also have a fast access to 3 lenses instead of 2. This way I can often actually leave the bag completely away and still be able to cover all shooting situations. It's a bit more tricky to switch the lenses in this way and you can't really have more than one big lens in this setup. But with compact primes and some practise it works really well and basically eliminates the concerns about dust and dirt. All that being said, I think that most of the time for most people the dust shouldn't be a problem to begin with. It's easy to check there is no excessive amount of dirt in the Lens Kit and if your lens get's a bit dusty, an air blower will help you out :) And as you said, the caps defeat the whole point by slowing you down so I have never used them. I might at some point post a short clip showing how the Lens Kit works with two lenses attached. But first I have a few videos to post that I'm currently working on. Hope this helps :)

Hey, for a bigger setup I would go with the full sized Peak Design Slide strap and a backpack with side access. The Everyday Backpack is obviously great but many other brands also have good side access backpacks. The strap for those moments where you want to have the camera instantly ready and the backpack for moving around while still having the camera quite quickly available through the side access. Hope this helps and let me know if/when you decide to buy something :)

@@Adventuregrapher Hi, I decided to go for the Capture Clip V3, it is perfect but only for smaller setups (such as my X-T3 + 16-80 f/4). I attach it to shoulder strap of my Lowepro Whistler bag. But I am struggling a little bit with the bigger setup, such as my X-T3 with 100-400. When attached to the Capture Clip V3 using the tripod foot, the stability sucks... (it leans forward), when attached through the battery grip (with the capture clip socket on the grip), it sits well, but I am a little bit afraid if I won't break the grip from the body, as all the weight leans on the connection between the camera body and the grip... not the best solution, I know, but still didn't figure out anything better... carrying on the Peak's Slide strap I wobbles around and that sucks too...

Thanks a lot :) For bigger DSLR's a good camera strap or a backpack with side access (or a messenger bag) are some great options. I will be posting a new video about camera straps in 1-2 weeks and some time after that a video about camera bags so stay tuned out there :) If you need something now, the Slide by Peak Design is a great strap for bigger cameras. But in the video I will be comparing all of the PD straps and maybe some other straps as well so you will get a better idea which one would work for you the best!

OK but what if you're not using a dinky micro 4/3rds camera and you have a mirrorless with a 24-70mm G Master? This setup cant handle the weight. Anyone got any recommendations? The shoulder clip setup is even worse for this since after a couple miles in one shoulder is sore as shit.

Hi, I use the Capture with a full frame A7RIII and Sony 24-105 f4 all the time without any problems. Sure, the 24-70 GM is a couple of hundred grams heavier still but should be quite comparable anyway. I personally wouldn't have a problem doing a full day hike with that setup attached to a shoulder strap :) Cameras with battery grips and longer than 100mm zooms are something I wouldn't recommend the Capture for though. A good camera backpack with a side access opening is my recommendation for those bigger setups.

My struggle is I am trying to figure a way to have a camera easily accessible while mountaineering and such, where I'm not using a dedicated camera bag, and will be actively moving which would make me think a strap would cause the camera to flail too much. There may just be no good way to do this! Though there are people like Jimmy Chin and Scott Kranz that do photography while mountaineering, perhaps I should check into their setups.

I filmed the video with the Sony A7RIII and A9. YI 4K+ is still in my opinion the best action camera for the money (or even not considering the budget). GoPro Hero 6 has a bit better specs on paper but I have heard people having too many issues with it (freezing software, bad colour, oversharpened image quality..) so the 4K+ is still my go-to action camera. Do you have any specific questions about that camera in mind? I considered doing a long term review about it but figured I don't really have that many new things to say about it and I still have a long list of other videos to get done so I ditched the idea for now.. But I still gladly ask any questions about it if I can :)

Adventuregrapher I use an A7R2 and A6300 but struggle to get sharp footage. Was actually thinking about going to an action camera to make filming easier and quicker when out in the wilds.

A7R2 and A6300 are some excellent cameras, that's actually exactly what I used until this year! But for hiking and travel an action camera is a pretty nice addition too! I like to have the YI 4K+ mounted on my right backpack strap ready to shoot and my A7RIII on my left backpack strap. If I'm walking and don't want to stop to get a shot, it's really easy to just start recording with the YI and get a quick clip with the image stabilization on. The 4K+ is also pretty handy for vlogging shots while walking because of the wide FOV and pretty good stabilization. And for slow motion there's the 60fps option in 4K as well! I took a look of some of your videos and really enjoyed them. You seem to know what you are doing so I'm surprised you are struggling with filming with the cameras. Are your issues focus related (ie. camera autofocusing to the background instead of you)?

Never sure best focus setting. Have them on wide field of view, face detect and try to have F stop around 8-11 depending on light. Try and focus on object in distance where I am likely to be standing or walking and use continuous autofocus. Have also tried using SLOG2 and grading but not had much success. Not sure if I should manual focus or keep using the auto-focus as a few times I have miss focused and when you play back in camera it looks ok but when you see on big screen it is out slightly.

If you are not moving much, I would suggest using continuous AF and having a "Flexible spot L" AF-area where you are going to be standing. In this video I probably used zone since there are no other objects close to the center of the frame. I also often leave my camera bag on the spot where I'm going to be standing and then just focus on that. Also in my experience the A6300 focuses better than the A7RII so I would prefer to use that for video (it's a bit sharper too). Also SLOG2 is imo not really worth all the trouble but some of the other semi-flat picture profiles are very good :)

Hi, unfortunately neither the clip nor the plate has an tripod thread hole on the bottom so these are not compatible out of the box. But you can easily fix this by attaching a compact Arca Swiss release clamp to the tripod. Hi Alex (?), not sure if I got your name right and I couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks for the great reviews - I also watched the straps video and found it very helpful. I am currently looking for the best way to carry my Sony Rx10 m3 on a long distance hike and the Capture Clip is on the top of my list. Watching your video I noticed that you seem to prefer to carry the camera on your belt instead of the shoulder straps of the backpack. Also, you never had the waist belt of your backpack closed which is obligatory for me when carrying substantial weight. I suspect it is not possible to have the camera on the belt and the waist belt closed at the same time, is it? My assumption is that mounting the camera on the shoulder strap is the better alternative while walking. Would that be correct? After watching your reviews I tend towards the combination of clip and leash. Thanks again 👍

Hi Stefan, actually depending on how high you like to keep the waistbelt, it might be possible to use the Capture on your belt at the same time. During longer hikes I also keep my waistbelt closed and the Capture is still usable on my belt. That being said, the waistbelt might come in contact with your cameras back and scratching the screen or restricting your movement a bit. Anyway, I actually prefer using the Capture on the backpack starp especially if the backpack has a waist belt and I'm on a longer hike. However, if you take the bag off your back frequently and put it down on the ground often, having the camera dangling on the strap is not that practical. That's why in urban "everyday conditions" I like to use the Capture on my belt. This way I don't need to take the Camera off the clip every time I take my backpack off my back :) Oh, and my name is spelled "Aleksi" but Alex is completely fine as well :P Thanks for the great question, I hope my answer was at least somewhat helpful :)

The latter I really like, but I can see that it wouldn't be wide enough to carry the RX10 with 1,3 kg for a longer period of time. But in combination with the clip I think it will do the trick. No problem, it's my pleasure to help! Yeah, the Leash is a really nice strap but a bit too narrow for heavier setups and longer periods of time. Fortunately the Capture really helps with that so together they are a great combo. Most of the PD stuff is excellent but also damn expensive like you said :D The Slide and Slide Lite are something that would definitely work with the RX10. With heavier cameras I prefer the full sized Slide a bit over the lite version though. Since neither of them is pocketable anyway, I don't feel the extra width has many negatives comparing the two. The full size Slide offers some extra comfort and attaching the anchor links to it is also a bit more effortless. By the way, which country are you from :)?

Hi, sorry for my delayed answer! Unfortunately the V3 is missing the tripod hole that the V2 Pro version has. Hi, just watched the video, great explanation, loved it. Yet I have a big problem in my head……This is great with hiking, although a bit bulky for my dslr bodies and lens, still decent, but will this be extremely vulnerable in urban environments？ I don't mean just bumping into objects or other people, but the capture lens seems very attracting to theives. Is it very easy to screw the lens off the lens holder or causing much attention to theives in cities？Regardless of dust going in, this is a big concern……right？ Hanging gear out in urban combat ain't that smart mate……I may just stick the lens in my backpack.

Hi, thanks for your comment! Fortunately you can't just twist the lens off, you also need to push the release button on the side. And I don't think thieves would be very likely to figure it out with the first try unless they already know how it works. But of course there's a chance that a skilled pickpocket could figure out how it works so it's probably a good idea to avoid using the lens kit/capture in areas with lots of pickpockets and big crowds etc. But in most urban environments if there are not huge crowds I have felt pretty comfortable using it. A good rule of thumb is you need to be careful when someone makes any physical contact with you. Thieves often work in teams and one is distracting you with some kind of physical contact (shaking your hand, tapping your shoulder, giving a hug etc) while the other one is stealing your stuff. If you keep that in mind and avoid the most crowded places with lots of thieves, I think you will be pretty safe :) Hope this helps!

OK, but those damn allen wrench attachments are a PAIN! I was out the other day and my plate loosened, the camera twisted a little and it was really hard to get off. Now, I love it BUT fix the stupid allen thing!

I agree, that's happened to me as well! Should be able to rotate the screws without a specific tool. They could even keep the allen hole but just add a notch there so a simple coin could be used as well. Good point and something I forgot to talk about in the video!

Like I said in the video, it's true that the Capture works best with smaller mirrorless cameras. But I also use it all the time with A7 and A9 series cameras and GM lenses and it's very very usable and practical. When you add a battery grip or use a full sized DSLR it gets more uncomfortable so I wouldn't really recommend it for those very "tall" camera bodies. Anyway, that's a fair point worth mentioning that it's not optimal with every big camera body out there. Cheers!

Well, I understand it might feel unrealistic if you haven't actually tried and used this stuff for a while. I have been using the Capture as my main camera carrying method for years now, so at least for me it's not unrealistic at all, I use this stuff every day in real life situations. I absolutely hate original straps that take ages to remove for example if you want to use the camera on a gimbal etc, they totally ruin my workflow. I like the PD straps that can be quickly attached and detached but even those I use surprisingly little. The lens kit I use a lot less but I still find it very useful in certain situations like fast paced wedding shooting where I prefer primes if the venue is not well lit.
