Thanks. For me it just confirms you need to be an artist to do this stuff. I have a 1:16 RC Tamiya Leo 2A6 that I''ll never paint - I don't want $X,xxx worth of kit ruined due to my terrible painting skills.

Brilliant Andy, especially around the turret mantle. One thing I thought about and I'd say quite difficult to replicate is moss in the hatch hinge crevices and similar areas. You always find moss somewhere. It would be the cherry on the cake if you came up with a way of doing it. Even my car gets some about the window seals as it is parked on the north side of the house in our damp climate in Ireland. I doubt if there would be much paint left on a russian turret after 40/50 years . A German or allied one for that matter, as paint was terrible compared to todays paint. I have read that Russian tanks often left from the factories without even primer becuase of shortages and demand.

Looks pretty good. Even the really light green is decent, I've got a photo of a bunch of BTR-60s in a field, running from dark greent to almost a light yellowish green. Production of 4BO paints had as much as a 40-60% variation in some of the colors added.

Amazing results, Andy, great technique! 👍 And the video showed exactly how you achieved the effect, making it a very useful guide/tutorial - well done! I do find the bright rust used by some modellers to be too bright/stark, even at the best of times, where fresh rust on a tank is prevalent . So, I especially find brighter shades of rust out of place on a heavily weathered tank like this, where rust would mostly have a very dark, brownish tone to it (there just wouldnt be any exposed metal left, susceptible to rusting). My two cents and I still love the video! ❤

Excellent technique there Andy . The welds should be bright and shiny metal as they generally don't rust . One of those .5 mm chrome pens should do the job . Waiting patiently for your next 1/16 release. All the best from Australia.

With the Mig acrylic paints is there a passable substitute for thinner if I don't have any mig Airbrush thinner?
@AndysHobbyHeadquarters

I usually spray them out of the bottle and get nice finish , other times( when it seems thick ) I have only used there thinner. I think you will have to experiment .

I saw some examples of WW2 relics in Europe years ago, and they typically had plants and lichens on them. How would you depict moss growing on this?

On the one hand it looks easy - 'Oh, you just do that.' On the other hand it's - 'Dear Lord, I am never going to be able to do that. I certainly don't want to waste a kit with a crummy attempt.' Sadly, there are less and less "cheap" kits to experiment on. So I just want to play it safe and finish a model with the 'just out of the factory' look!

"You dont see it in person but you will see it on video" - Its common issue for all artist. After spending lots of time on the piece we stop noticing some obvious flaws, thats why we use mirrors to get different perspective for a moment. 😊

ANDY, I do with you wouldn't shout so loudly during your introductions. Perhaps you could investigate a better microphone arrangement instead of blowing peoples' ears out. I'm sure something would plug into or wirelessly interphase with your video recording device.

@paulosborne6517

@@rowdymodeler1804 Here's a thought. Don't be a presumptuous smart-ass. Even with the volume lowered Andy's shouting intros are still uncomfortable for headphone users. How about we focus on the source of the issue - Andy's lack of audio production / failure to invest in a cheap microphone [he is undoubtedly a very rich businessman and could even write it off as an expense]. Not everyone - including NEW VIEWERS wants their ears blown off because Andy shouts when there are much better / intelligent solutions.
